WebSphere Portal V6.1 provides an exceptional user experience, facilitates reuse of Web assets and
existing IT assets, and improves ease of deployment. It enables organizations to quickly implement
new business designs that are engaging, flexible, and high performance.
Enhanced Web 2.0 capabilities enable desktop-like responsiveness and much more intuitive and
participatory composite business applications that leverage both Web and corporate information
sources.
New installation options, customization tools, site deployment wizard, and out-of-the-box jumpstart
templates all contribute to less effort, less cost, and faster time to value.
Support for WebSphere Application Server V6.1 and enhancements for site layout and management,
security configuration, portlet deployment and management — all lead to greater reliability,
manageability, and performance.
IBM continues its leadership role in development and implementation of the most recent portal open
standards, such as JSR286 and WSRP 2.0.

WebSphere® Portal V6.1 is an enterprise portal solution that builds upon a solid foundation of
previous releases and offers much more "openness", both from a Portal Open Standards perspective and
by providing tools and capabilities for incorporating Web 2.0 Internet resources. Inherent
service-oriented architecture (SOA) capabilities can now be more easily embellished within a much
broader Web context. Other key areas include much improved installation, customization, and
deployment capability.
Key new features
Enhanced Web 2.0. support enables the creation of much more intuitive, responsive, and participatory
business applications. Through an enhanced set of Web 2.0 capabilities in WebSphere Portal,
organizations can more quickly deploy rich, responsive, browser-based applications that
significantly improve the performance of the browser-based user experience. Customers can take
advantage of these new features automatically, without having to rework their standard-based
portlets. In addition, new features like representational state transfer (REST)-based services,
live text tags, and improved Atom and RSS consumption support the rapid creation of secure, governed
composite application mash-ups, facilitating an organizations' ability to quickly and cost
effectively solve specific business problems.
Streamlined installation and deployment features support faster time to value. This release of
WebSphere Portal delivers enhancements that make the product much easier to install, configure, and
deploy. New features include a streamlined installation that sets up the core portal services in
under 40 minutes, saving customers time and making it even easier for ISVs to create solutions that
leverage WebSphere Portal's core services. In addition, new site management capabilities ease
promotion of content between portal environments. As a result, WebSphere Portal is one of the few
portals on the market today that is easy enough for small companies with limited IT staff to install
and deploy, yet still scalable enough for global companies that need to deploy applications that
support many thousands of users.

Web Application Integrator provides a method to easily embed existing Web
applications in WebSphere portal for greater value.
New WebSphere Portlet Factory release delivers an easier out-of-the-box
experience combined with new Web 2.0 features and support for visual
application development of desktop-like Web applications. WebSphere
Portlet Factory, IBM's award-winning portlet automation tooling, includes
new capabilities like REST service support enabling creation of custom
portlets that integrate with REST providers like Lotus® Connections and
Lotus Quickr. The complexity of Web 2.0 technologies is masked by
providing out-of-the-box AJAX components that enable wizard-driven
creation of highly interactive, rich, browser-based applications.
Portlet Factory enables organizations to easily deploy high-performance,
intuitive applications that include features like drag and drop across
portlets, delivering a rich client experience within a browser. In
addition, this new release of Portlet Factory adds support for
integrating content from Lotus Web Content Manager, enabling customers to
easily create custom portlets leveraging WCM content. Portlet Factory
also supports deploying applications to Lotus Expeditor and Lotus
Notes® 8, enabling customers to build applications once and deploy to
multiple environments. Finally, this version of Portlet Factory includes
a test server that enables developers to start building solutions faster
than ever.
WebSphere Portal Enable — All the features of WebSphere Portal Server
plus:

IBM Lotus Web Content Management, which is included with a restricted
license for portal use, enables you to rapidly build next generation Web
sites with new enhancements that can be used throughout the entire
content life cycle. Improvements in authoring, management, and delivery
enable you to interact with your customers, partners, and employees in
new ways.

Document Management is enhanced through the replacement of Portal
Document Manager with a restricted use license of Lotus Quickr. Your
users can easily share, view, and organize files of all types ranging
from documents to spreadsheets within the portal community. You can
quickly set up document libraries so your teams can easily share your
rich media content with features such as customizable meta data and
version control.

Your documents are also accessible from any browser interface including
feeds and custom built Portlets created with WebSphere Portlet Factory
builders.
OmniFind™ Enterprise edition (restricted use) supports WebSphere Portal
solution requirements for additional search sources and features, and
greater scalability.
WebSphere Portal Extend — All the features of WebSphere Portal Server
and WebSphere Enable plus:

IBM Lotus Forms, with a restricted license for portal use, provides
pixel-perfect E-Forms that are the front end of business processes and
are used to streamline processes and save paper. They allow your
employees, customers, and partners to store, view, and fill out
electronic forms from the portal interface.

Lotus Sametime® Entry with a restricted license for portal use,
provides portal users with the ability to start instant messaging in the
context of a business process. By clicking on a user's name in a
portlet, they can tap into knowledge of their associates or ask a
question of a customer services representative.

Lotus Quickr, with a restricted license for portal users, lets you create
security-rich work spaces within your portal site, providing them with a
"Place" to coordinate, collaborate, and communicate on any project or
ad-hoc initiative. New integration options such as the Web Application
Integrator and WebSphere Portlet Factory facilitate a richer, more
extensible collaborative experience within the portal. For our existing
customers, QuickPlace® also continues to be supported.

IPLA and Subscription and Support considerations
IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but
not limited to an enterprise. You may aggregate the capacity for all the
processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price.
This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement (PoE). It is your
responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the
limits of the entitlement of the product license.
Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product
license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the
country in which the agreement is made.

Charge metrics definitions
Value Unit
A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements which is based upon the
quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. Each program has a
designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurement is a processor core.
However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such as users or resources
which may include servers, client devices, and messages. The number of Value Unit entitlements
required for a program depends on how the program is deployed in your environment and must be
obtained from a Value Unit table. You must obtain a PoE for the calculated number of Value Unit
entitlements for your implementation. The Value Unit entitlements are specific to a program and may
not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program.
Processor (Value Unit)
A processor core is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets and executes
instructions. A processor core consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more
arithmetic or logic unit. With multicore technology, each core is considered a processor. Not all
processor cores require the same number of Processor Value Unit entitlements. To calculate the
number of Processor Value Unit entitlements required, refer to the Processor Value Unit table on the
following Web site
With full capacity licensing, a PoE must be acquired for the appropriate
number of Processor Value Units based on all activated processor cores
available for use on the server.
Sub-capacity processor (Value Unit)
For programs eligible for sub-capacity licensing, a PoE must be acquired
for the appropriate number of Processor Value Units based on all
activated processor cores available for use in each partition (utilizing
eligible partitioning technologies) where the program runs. Refer to the
International Passport Advantage Agreement Attachment for sub-capacity
terms or the program's license information to determine applicable
sub-capacity terms.

Sub-capacity for selected middleware products
Sub-capacity licensing on a per processor or per Value Unit basis is available for selected
middleware products. To offer sub-capacity licensing, IBM software products implement IBM Tivoli
License Compliance Manager within their offerings so that you can monitor and report quarterly to
IBM on the use of the programs on a continuous basis.

Eligibility requirements for sub-capacity licensing
To be eligible for sub-capacity licensing terms on this product, you must
agree to install and configure IBM Tivoli License Manager for IBM
Software, in accordance with the IBM Tivoli License Manager publications,
and to enable the collection of program use data on all eligible machines
subject to sub-capacity terms.
For those machines running programs with sub-capacity licensing terms,
you must use IBM Tivoli License Manager for IBM Software to monitor
program use and submit to IBM an IBM Use Report each calendar quarter.
Multiple copies of IBM Tivoli License Manager for IBM Software or IBM
Tivoli License Manager are not required. You can use more copies if you
need them to support your operational environment, but only one copy is
required to monitor all your sub-capacity licensed products.
Additionally, if this is the first product you have licensed under
sub-capacity terms, you must agree to the terms of an attachment to your
Passport Advantage or Passport Advantage Express contract and submit a
new Passport Advantage enrollment form. First-time sub capacity clients
also have an opportunity to ensure a primary business contact is
established for their contracts.

If you order (this product) under sub-capacity terms, IBM Tivoli License
Manager for IBM Software will be made available to you if you do not
already have one. You must install and configure this tool for your
sub-capacity products. Alternately, you can use Tivoli License Manager.
Once the license manager software is installed, you will be required to
register online (IBM may need to contact you in order to finalize the
registration process.) You must monitor program use on a continuous basis
with an IBM Tivoli License Manager for IBM Software and submit IBM Use
Reports to IBM on a calendar quarterly basis.

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and
convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any
transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents
such as the IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA), IBM
International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for
Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

IPLA including the License Information (LI) document and PoE govern
your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use.

Warranty:
IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified
operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The
warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does
not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that
IBM will correct all Program defects. You are responsible for the
results obtained from the use of the program.
IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on
known Program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at
no additional charge. Consult the IBM Software Support Handbook for

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the
original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).
Program technical support:
Technical support of a program product will be available for a
minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your
Software Maintenance is in effect. This technical support allows you to
obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for
product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and
operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you
with access to updates, releases, and versions of the program. You will
be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with
12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM,
including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact
your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be
available for a fee.
Money-back guarantee:
If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are
the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for
it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its
PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the
program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for
instructions on how to obtain the refund.

Agreement, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the

Yes. Software Maintenance is included with licenses purchased
through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express. Product
upgrades and technical support are provided by the Software Maintenance
offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the
latest versions and releases to entitled software and Technical Support
provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations,
worldwide.
IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with each program license
acquired. The initial period of Software Maintenance can be extended by
the purchase of a renewal option, if available.
While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you assistance
for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to)
questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via
telephone and, if available, electronic access, to your information
systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours
(published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This
assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1
assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details,

Software Maintenance does not include assistance for the design and
development of applications, your use of programs in other than their
specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which
