Description

IBM General Parallel File System (GPFS): GPFS is available as a modification update, V3.2.1, for users who are interested in a graphical user interface. The GPFS Management GUI allows you to:

  • Monitor a cluster by letting you select it and view its configuration settings
  • Manage a cluster by allowing you to perform various operations on file systems, disks, NSDs, and nodes
  • Install a cluster by using the GPFS wizard, which will walk you through the step-by-step installation process

The GPFS Management GUI is provided with GPFS V3.2.1 and runs with the AIX 5.2 and AIX 5.3 operating systems, SLES 9 and SLES 10, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 4 and 5 operating systems. You can manage your GPFS file systems remotely with Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6.0, or later, and Mozilla Firefox 1.0.5, or later.

In order to obtain the GPFS Management GUI, you must place an order. The modification update is available without the GPFS Management GUI from the Cluster Support Web site.

GPFS V3.2.0 is supported with the AIX 6.1 operating system; restrictions apply. For complete information, refer to the GPFS FAQs at

IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler LoadLeveler: An updated modification level of Tivoli Workload Scheduler LoadLeveler is available, V3.4.3. Customers with a current IBM Software Maintenance Agreement (SWMA) can order this modification update at no additional charge per their SMWA.

This latest update offers the following new functions:

  • RHEL 5 support: Support is added for Tivoli Workload Scheduler LoadLeveler Linux on RHEL 5.
  • Process tracking available on SLES 10: Source code is available for a kernel module that interacts with LoadLeveler to support the tracking of all job processes. Preemption by the suspend is supported when process tracking is enabled.
  • Scheduling affinity is available on Linux on POWER systems: Tasks can specify memory affinity and core affinity to derive performance benefits from the POWER6 or POWER5™ processor cores. Tasks can request exclusive use of CPUs and cores. Core affinity and CPU affinity are supported on SMT-enabled POWER6 or POWER5 processor-based systems.
  • Support for SMT on Linux for Power Systems: Jobs running on SMT-enabled POWER6 and POWER5 processor-based Linux systems can turn SMT ON or OFF.
  • Support for the new "SMT" machine requirement: Jobs can request machines that have SMT either enabled or disabled. The machines that do not support SMT are considered SMT-disabled. This is available on POWER processor-based AIX and Linux systems.
  • Support for thread-level binding for OpenMP applications: OpenMP jobs can request and utilize thread binding along with MCM affinity, core affinity, and CPU affinity on SMT-enabled POWER6 and POWER5 processor-based AIX and Linux systems.

IBM Parallel Environment: An updated modification level of Parallel Environment is available, V4.3.2. Customers with a current IBM SWMA can order this modification update at no additional charge per their SMWA. Updates include:

  • Support running the AIX 6 operating system is available with Parallel Environment V4.3.2.
  • Task affinity support is provided for OpenMP applications running on the AIX and Linux operating systems.
  • The ability to manage task affinity, which was previously only supported for the AIX operating system, has been extended to the Linux operating system.

The current IBM Parallel Environment for Linux on POWER licensed product will be renamed to IBM Parallel Environment for Linux, V4.3.2 and will include the RPM images for running on both IBM Power Systems and System x™ hardware servers. These will be two separate installable images made available on the same Parallel Environment for Linux CD-ROM.

IBM Cluster Systems Management (CSM): Updates for additional hardware support are per the service Web site.

The offerings listed below are only available via Passport Advantage®. Additional information regarding these offerings can be found in the listed announcement letters.
