Description

IBM Tivoli Netcool®/OMNIbus

IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus is a carrier-class service and business assurance system. It collects and consolidates events and alarms from a wide variety of networking environments in real-time. These include servers, mainframes, Windows™ systems, UNIX® applications, circuit switches, voice switches, IP routers, SNMP devices, network management applications and frameworks, among many others. By working in conjunction with existing management systems and applications, Netcool/OMNIbus minimizes deployment time and enables employees to use their existing network management skills.

Netcool/OMNIbus presents this consolidated information in a meaningful, intuitive, point-and-click format and provides information of interest to specific users through individually configurable filters and views. Through Netcool/OMNIbus' real-time monitoring, you can address problems before they cause disruptions in service, thereby supporting continuity of business operations with architectures that are more responsive, scalable, and highly available.

The Netcool ObjectServer®, the core component of Netcool/OMNIbus, is a high-speed memory-resident database that collects fault information throughout the network infrastructure. Netcool/OMNIbus Probes and Monitors collect fault messages throughout the network and forward them in a common format to the Netcool ObjectServer for further processing and filtering. Using a point-and-click interface, you can prioritize events according to the business services they could potentially impact. You can react to events in real-time and see them in color-coded severity through native or Web-based Netcool EventLists, or monitor the availability of business services using service-level histogram summaries.

IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus Gateways

Netcool/OMNIbus gateways enable you to exchange alerts between ObjectServers and complementary third-party applications, such as databases and helpdesk or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems.

You can use gateways to replicate alerts or to maintain a backup ObjectServer. Application gateways enable you to integrate different business functions. For example, you can configure a gateway to send alert information to a helpdesk system. You can also use a gateway to archive alerts to a database.

Bidirectional gateways allow alerts to flow from the source ObjectServer to the target ObjectServer or application and also allow feedback to the source ObjectServer. In a bidirectional gateway configuration, changes made to the contents of a source ObjectServer are replicated in a destination ObjectServer or application, and the destination ObjectServer or application replicates its alerts in the source ObjectServer. They can be considered as synchronization tools.

In the case of helpdesk or CRM gateways, a one-to-one mapping between the Netcool event and corresponding trouble ticket is created. Any updates, deletes/closures, and/or journal entries made at either end are propagated across the gateway to the event or ticket's counterpart.

The benefit of this is that operators' Network Management Systems are synchronized with its CRM/Troubleticketing system automatically. The value of an assured level of consistency can not be undervalued especially when considering the cost of discrepancy and user error when the two systems are normally coordinated.

IBM Tivoli Network Manager IP Edition V3.6 (formally IBM Tivoli Netcool/Precision for IP Networks)

IBM Tivoli Network Manager (ITNM) helps network management staff visualize and understand the layout of complex networks and the impact of network events and failures upon them.

ITNM's topology-based event correlation and root cause analytics allows NOC operators to work more efficiently by focusing time and attention on root cause events and identifying symptom events that can be filtered into a separate view. This dramatically reduces the time needed to heal the network and helps ensure that customer-facing network operations staff has meaningful, contextual information at its fingertips. This helps NOC operations meet their customers highest service expectations.

ITNM's advanced network discovery and visualization capabilities mean that NOC operators are also provided with the ability to view the network infrastructure and associated events that are critical to specific customer services.

The network discovery and modelling capability can provide enterprises and service providers with the accurate real-time visibility of the network infrastructure that they need to more effectively use this infrastructure — helping to reduce operational and future capital expenditures, and maximize revenues. ITNM offers detailed flexible asset reporting and asset reconciliation for leading asset management systems.

ITNM IP 3.6 brings enhanced functionality to both users and administrators of the product and delivers significant benefits specifically in the areas of installation, network visualization, and MPLS management.

  1. Netcool common infrastructure

    ITNM IP 3.6 is the first to integrate components delivered by Tivoli into the new Netcool common infrastructure. This includes Netcool GUI foundation (NGF), common installation, and common licensing. These enhancements can lower the cost of ownership of the Netcool suite by providing the user with a standard way to install and configure Netcool products.

    ITNM IP's Web-based user interface is now deployed within the NGF, which provides common access to Netcool Web-based interfaces and single sign on for Netcool users.

    This release also aligns the Web-based user interface with the new Netcool look and feel.

    The Netcool Common Installer helps ensure a consistent installation process for all Netcool products and simplifies the installation of multiple Netcool products. The Netcool Common licensing module helps ensure that licensing across Netcool products is consistent and can be hosted on a single license server if required.

  2. Enhanced discovery and correlation

    In addition to the ongoing work within Tivoli to enrich the configuration options and limit the time and resources taken to perform network discoveries, this release of ITNM IP has been enhanced to provide discovery support for and visualization of MPLS-based Layer 2 VPNs.

    Discovery has also been enhanced to offer support for Secure Shell V2 in situations where Discovery Agents need to access information from the CLI of a device.

    Topological event-correlation has been enhanced. ITNM IP provides optimum root-cause analysis for failures that occur in meshed regions and in non-meshed regions because it is aware of which nodes isolate regions at the network edge. This version also correctly classifies network servers which may be acting as a routing device.

  3. MPLS management

    The MPLS management capabilities of ITNM IP have been extended with this release, enhancing discovery performance and providing additional event handling and root cause analysis.

    In addition to the existing LSP-based VPN topology discovery and modeling, ITNM IP now provides enhanced Route Target (RT) based discovery. RT based Discovery can dramatically reduce the discovery times of MPLS networks. The discovery mechanisms have been tailored to minimize information retrieval, thus reducing the load on routers; increased use of SNMP (in addition to existing Telnet support) results in faster MPLS discovery.

    Discovery of Juniper ERX devices has been improved to allow VPN/VRF filtering. Load sharing MPLS environments on Cisco devices are now supported.

  4. OSPF Visualization

    The Web-based user interface allows border routers to be highlighted to the user and the auto-partitioning of network views into OSPF Autonomous Systems and the areas they contain.

  5. Application discovery

    ITNM IP 3.6 discovers software applications installed on servers in your network by detecting and interrogating Netcool/Application Service Monitors installed on these machines. Network views can be auto-partitioned to show all machines running a specific application.

  6. Device certification

    A significant number of updates have been made to the devices supported by ITNM IP. These include supporting DASAN switches, Teldat devices, and DOCSIS information relating to cable modems. This release also supports an increased number of device operating systems — for example on Juniper ERX and Marconi 3810 devices. Finally, support for 802.1q has been added in the standard switch support.

  7. Enhanced monitoring

    The default configuration of ITNM IP has been enhanced to monitor interface errors and identify potential problems (generating threshold-crossing alarms).

  8. Some additional improvements include:
    • Enhanced multiple domain architecture that requires a single Netcool/OMNIbus server for multiple ITNM domains
    • Support of right click tools for devices in the topology view for on-demand network troubleshooting using native device management tools

Netcool for Asset Management can be used to create reports displaying information about the devices in a network. Netcool for Asset Management uses the data in the topology database modelled by ITNM IP.

Reports from Netcool for Asset Management provide information which can help you with network planning, auditing, and device reconciliation. For example, you can:

  • Identify unused assets.
  • Produce an accurate inventory of equipment in use.
  • Identify out of date network device software.
  • Identify network equipment for reconciliation with other inventory, billing, or provisioning systems.

These reports are run through IBM Tivoli Netcool/Reporter. The Solution package comes with canned, out-of-the-box reports, although it is possible to generate custom ones.

The 2.0 release provided greater compliance with common standards (Netcool and Tivoli Network Manager), as well as support for Network Manager V3.6 and all resulting features available via the new release. It also provides easier new report creation, greater migration and population of NfAM database (via NCIM), and improved query performance.

IBM Tivoli Network Manager Transmission Edition V5.5 (formally Netcool/Precision for Transmission Networks)

ITNM correlates network events to the model of the network topology which allows NOC operators to work more efficiently by focusing time and attention on problem areas of the network. This dramatically reduces the time needed to heal the network and helps ensure that customer-facing network operations staff has meaningful, contextual information at its fingertips. This helps NOC operations meet their customers' highest service expectations.

ITNM's advanced network discovery and visualization capabilities mean that NOC operators are also provided with the ability to view the network infrastructure and associated events that are critical to specific customer services.

ITNM adds the following functionality to the Tivoli Suite:

  • Accurate network discovery and connectivity modelling

  • Extensive support for transmission network technologies including WDM, SONET, and SDH

IBM Tivoli Network Manager Transmission Edition (ITNM TN) discovers transmission equipment and some access technologies (DSL), discovering network devices, interfaces, and connectivity. It supports the following network technologies: WDM, SONET, xDSL, and ATM (EMS integrations). ITNM TN has direct device integrations using SNMP and TL1, and vendor specific integrations through EMS interfaces.

ITNM TN V5.5 release brings:

  • A single data repository for all OSI layers 1 through layer 3 network inventory and topology information
  • Discovery and modelling of network circuits
  • Enhanced scalability and easier administration

With our focus on delivering a single data repository for network inventory and topology information for the network, ITNM TN V5.5 provides the network model for coordinating your service assurance processes. Tight integration with Netcool/OMNIbus further reduces the time required to analyze and resolve faults on the network. The complete network model can be used to close the loop on planning and provisioning activities — providing the networks actual configuration versus what offline systems expect.

In addition, the focus on scalability enhancements helps ensure ITNM TN has little impact on your existing OSS infrastructure, minimizing and providing control over the network management traffic it generates and honoring your existing processes and restrictions on network device access. ITNM TN now supports flexible deployment architectures to fit your organizations geographical fingerprint or responsibility structure.

By using common Netcool components this release helps reduce the cost of ownership of the Netcool suite by speeding initial deployment and simplifying administration.

New features of ITNM TN V5.5:

  1. Single data store for network information

    ITNM TN V5.5 stores the network topology information it discovered into the Netcool/Common Information Model (NCIM) — a standards-based network topology model. NCIM is based on the Telemanagement Forum standard (TMF608) and the DMTF's Common Information Model (CIM) and describes an abstract data model for network inventory and topology information for OSI layers 1, 2, and 3. NCIM is delivered with MySQL 5.0 and Oracle 9i support.

    NCIM is the central data repository for network information and will be used in the future by:

    • ITNM's network visualization graphical user interfaces (GUIs)
    • ITNM's topology-based event correlation engine
    • IBM Tivoli Network Manager Integration Module for Cramer SyncEngine (reconcile Cramer Inventory System)
    • Additional integrations with IBM Tivoli and third-party applications

    ITNM IP 3.6 also populates this database — providing the network inventory and topology information for OSI layers 2 and 3.

  2. Enhanced circuit discovery

    The generic circuit discovery algorithm (GCDA) or Sub Network Connection discovery (SNC discovery) included in ITNM TN has been designed to model circuits implicitly defined by the network information discovered. It has been designed to be general purpose and technology independent, equally relevant to point to point transmission networks (such as SONET and SDH) where SNCs are and higher layers network circuits such as ATM Permanent Virtual Circuits (PVCs).

    The algorithm uses the network topology information to traverse circuits through the network and explicitly define them in the network data model — referencing the connections and ports used in supporting the circuit.

  3. Scalability enhancements

    To support polling very large networks ITNM TN V5.5, you can now consolidate multiple ITNM TN domains. You may have deployed multiple ITNM TN servers to manage your network along geographical regions or because of different groups' administrative responsibilities. With ITNM TN V5.5, you can now consolidate this network information collected locally into a single NCIM data store for further data analysis or reporting.

    In addition, you can configure ITNM TN to connect to network devices only when polling. The number of management connections a legacy network device can support may be limited or connectivity may be restricted to certain time windows. ITNM can be configured to only connect to a network device during scheduled discovery runs. This is useful in asset reporting/reconciliation applications where ITNM TN polls network devices periodically to maintain a configuration snapshot of the network. In this configuration, other OSS applications will still be able to access the network device as needed.

    ITNM TN can be configured so to minimize the impact of the network management traffic it generates. ITNM TN performs remote load balancing by controlling the amount of traffic to direct to a remote target, whether a single network device, a gateway network device, or an Element Management System. This can prevent network devices from getting overloaded by network management traffic — which can affect data throughput of the devices.

  4. Ease of administration

    ITNM TN now uses the Netcool Common Installer to package its installation. The installation process is simple and familiar to any Netcool administrators.

    ITNM TN no longer uses electronic licensing, eliminating the administrative overhead of maintaining a hosted license server.

    In addition to using the discovery capabilities of ITNM TN Networks to find devices and interrogate them for their configuration, the administrator can also seed the discovery algorithm using a list of device hosts and authentication information, if available.

  5. Enhanced scripting options

    ITNM TN now uses the Bean Scripting Framework (BSF) to invoke scripts, which allows a variety of languages to be used. The administrator can choose any BSF supported language in order to customize ITNM TN — for example Beanshell, Jython, Javascript, or NetRexx™.

  6. Additional device support

    ITNM TN V5.5 includes additional support for optical equipment from Alcatel, Fujitsu, Nortel, Tellabs, and Lucent. This releases also supports integration with Cisco WAN Manager v15 to automatically discover ATM Private Virtual Circuits (PVCs) provisioned across a Cisco ATM network.

IBM Tivoli Netcool/Webtop V2.0.0

IBM Tivoli Netcool/Webtop V2.0.0 delivers graphical maps, tables, and event lists to the remote operator via HTML and Java™. Users can also manage IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus alerts with Netcool/Webtop's flexible interface and advanced management capabilities. The Netcool/Webtop application extends Netcool/OMNIbus capabilities by adding a new set of graphical views, as well as flexible management and administrative functions. This Web-enabled interface allows monitoring and viewing of high volumes of management data from Netcool/OMNIbus. Accessible from any Java-enabled Web browser, Netcool/Webtop provides operations staff and executives with "anytime, anywhere" access to service status and actionable information.

IBM Tivoli Netcool/Reporter V2.1.0

Netcool/Reporter is an historical event reporting software application with a business intelligence-oriented portal that provides pages, folder and channels, several report development tools, and over 50 canned reports.

At the core of Netcool/Reporter is a Java server and set of applets and drivers to provide database connectivity, scheduling capabilities, report creation, and publishing.

Netcool/Reporter uses OBDC plus native connectivity to databases for reporting coupled with an Apache Web Server and JRun, as the servlet engine, to deliver the reports.

A Report Designer applet is provided which connects to RDBMS standard databases including Oracle, Sybase, and MS-SQL Server, and creates SQL and formatting definition files that are saved on the file system. The Report Designer is a wizard-like interface that allows the SQL query to be constructed from a tab-based approach.

A runtime engine submits the queries and formats the data returned, for display in a browser, or for output into HTML, PDF, CSV, XML, GIF, or JPEG files. In addition to the ability to create ad-hoc reports, a series of Event Summary, Fault Diagnosis, and Operational Performance reports are provided in the distribution, along with a set of Service Level Management quality reports, ready to run as soon as the IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus Gateway generates data.

In addition to the canned reports described above, there is a set of sample reports built using the Freeform Report Designer tool; these reports use a combination of tables, bar charts, and pie charts. Reports can be run in real time, saved as snapshots, or output as CSV or PDF files.

A set of JSP tag libraries is provided; these tag libraries enable the construction of specialized interaction with the Netcool/Reporter server and are the basis for the two JSP tools used for executing reports via a URL.

The target audience for Netcool/Reporter is any user who needs to generate ad-hoc reports for analyzing the event data generated by Netcool/OMNIbus or who wants to publish and distribute reports to executives within the organization or to IT specialists.

IBM Tivoli Netcool/Impact

IBM Tivoli Netcool/Impact provides a flexible, dynamic, common platform for real-time data access that can easily circumvent traditional organizational boundaries. Armed with data from virtually any data source, administrators can correlate, calculate, enrich, deliver, visualize, and perform a wide range of automated actions.

Tivoli Netcool/Impact offers an advanced policy engine that allows administrators to define exactly what actions should be taken and when. These actions can include adding business context to events, business impact analysis, advanced event correlation, calculation of key performance indicators (KPIs), notification and escalation, and virtually any custom data manipulation and action. In addition, a customizable Web-based operator view virtualizes multiple data stores, providing a single point from which to view and act on distributed data. As a result, it can integrate more seamlessly with your trusted data sources or configuration management database (CMDB) in support of IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) or enhanced Telecom Operations Map (eTOM) processes and best practices.

In the past, establishing a single data management platform often meant "ripping and replacing" existing tools, restructuring departmental processes and allocating valuable resources for integration and migration. Tivoli Netcool/Impact helps render those steps obsolete. It allows you to more quickly access and leverage data in existing data stores and utilize a simpler metadata access layer across them. In doing so, it allows for a single, virtualized data store and more flexible data use. By leveraging data where it resides, Tivoli Netcool/Impact helps preserve the ownership and control of the original data content and helps organizations avoid security issues related to accessing this data — all while improving productivity.

Tivoli Business Service Manager V4.1

The Tivoli Business Service Manager (TBSM) V4.1 product orderable components have expanded to include a Base (Install) product and Resource Value Units in addition to the existing Value Units. The TBSM V4.1 product was announced in Software Announcement 207-062 , dated March 27, 2007. The function of TBSM remains the same as announced.

IBM Tivoli Netcool/Omnibus Probes

Netcool/OMNIbus Probes passively listen to proprietary management systems and passes network alarm and event information to Netcool ObjectServer for filtering and viewing. A probe connects to an event source, detects and acquires event data, and forwards it to Netcool/OMNIbus (ObjectServer) to form alerts. The probe uses logic within a rules file to manipulate the event elements before converting them into fields of an alert in the ObjectServer alerts.status (or other table).

With the Netcool/OMNIbus application, fault and availability information from more than 1,000 alarm source types can be collected and consolidated. These include servers, mainframes, Windows systems, UNIX applications, circuit switches, voice switches, IP routers, SNMP devices, network management applications, and frameworks, among many others. Using generic and custom probes, Netcool can collect data from virtually any networked environment.

In addition to the dedicated probes for devices within the suite are Universal probes. These probes either monitor 'standard' interfaces such as SNMP and TL1 or receive or monitor input from standard sources (for example, standard input, sockets or log files). With these inputs being highly configurable, these probes allow most required new devices.

IPLA and subscription and support considerations

IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. You may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement (PoE). It is your responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license.

Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

Netcool/OMNIbus event management provides automatic collection, consolidation, and correlation of events. It applies automated problem diagnosis, notification, and resolution, which can help operations teams improve performance, reduce operating costs, and operate the business more efficiently and competitively.

Organizations commonly deploy Netcool/OMNIbus for event management within network operations center (NOC) environments and for consolidated operations management as a top-level "manager of managers."

Memory requirements

When installing all of the components of the Netcool/Reporter server, you must have at least 350 MB of disk space and 256 MB of memory available on the machine on which you are installing Netcool/Reporter.

When running the Netcool/Reporter server on a Windows™ system with 10 concurrent users, it is recommended that 128 MB of memory is available on the computer where Netcool/Reporter server is installed. It is recommended that an additional 10 MB of computer memory is available for each additional concurrent user.

When running the Netcool/Reporter server on UNIX® with 10 users, it is recommended that at least 270 MB of memory is available on the computer where Netcool/Reporter server is installed. It is recommended that an additional 10 MB of computer memory is available for each additional concurrent user.

IBM Tivoli Netcool/Webtop V2.0

IBM Tivoli Netcool/Webtop V2.0 runs on hardware capable of supporting the software listed in the Software requirements section.

A full installation of IBM Tivoli Netcool/Webtop V2.0 requires a minimum of 500 MB of disk space, and a minimum of 512 MB or higher of system memory. IBM recommends at least 2 GB of additional disk space and 2 GB of system memory. In addition, you must ensure that you have adequate swap space available on the Netcool/Webtop server. The swap space must be at least double the size of physical memory.

IBM Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing

IBM Tivoli software products are priced using IBM Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing. The Enhanced Value-Based Pricing system is based upon the IBM Tivoli Environment-Managed Licensing Model, which uses a managed-environment approach — whereby price is determined by what is managed rather than the number and type of product components installed.

For example, all servers monitored with IBM Tivoli's monitoring product (IBM Tivoli Monitoring) require entitlements sufficient for those servers. Other IBM Tivoli products may manage clients, client devices, agents, network nodes, users, or other items, and are licensed and priced accordingly.

Unlike typical systems management licensing models that require entitlements of specific software components to specific systems, the IBM Tivoli Environment-Managed Licensing Model provides you with the flexibility to deploy IBM Tivoli software products within its environment in a manner that can address and respond to your evolving architecture. That is, as the architecture of your environment changes, your implementation of IBM Tivoli software can be altered, as needed, without affecting your license requirements (as long as you do not exceed your entitlements to the software).

Under Enhanced Value-Based Pricing, licensing and pricing of server-oriented applications are determined based upon the server's use in your environment. Typically, such applications are licensed and priced in a manner that corresponds to each installed and activated processor of the server managed by the IBM Tivoli application to help correlate price to value, while offering a simple solution.

Where a server is physically partitioned, this approach is modified. This partitioning technique is the approach used with systems that have either multiple cards or multiple frames, each of which can be configured independently. For servers capable of physical partitioning (for example, IBM eServer® pSeries® Scalable POWERparallel® Systems servers, Sun Ultra servers, and HP Superdome servers), an entitlement is required for each processor in the physical partition being managed by the IBM Tivoli application. For example, assume that a server has 24 processors installed in aggregate. If this server is not partitioned, entitlements are required for all 24 processors. If, however, it is physically partitioned into three partitions each containing eight processors, and Tivoli products were managing only one of the three partitions, then entitlements would be required for the eight processors on the physical partition managed by the IBM Tivoli application.

For servers with virtual or logical partitions, entitlements are required for all installed and activated processors on the server. For each IBM Tivoli application managing a clustered environment, licensing is based on the cumulative number of installed and activated processors on each server in the cluster for each IBM Tivoli application managing the cluster. Where the cluster includes physically partitioned servers, the considerations described above concerning physically partitioned servers apply as well.

Enhanced Value-Based Pricing recognizes the convergence of RISC and UNIX, and Microsoft Windows and Intel technologies, in order to simplify your licensing requirements, and to provide a smoother, more scalable model. Pricing and licensing does not differentiate between non-zSeries® server platforms or operating systems. For some products, this platform neutrality extends to zSeries and other host servers as well.

IBM Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing terminology definitions

Authorized User

An authorized user is one and only one individual (named or unnamed) within or outside your enterprise. A proof of entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for each individual user accessing the program in any manner. A program licensed under an authorized user PoE may be installed on a single computer or server, and accessed by multiple users, provided that a PoE has been obtained for each individual user accessing the program either directly or indirectly (via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means on behalf of the user. Note that:

  • Authorized users have unique specific identity and IDs cannot be shared.
  • An ID can establish one or more connections and count as a single authorized user.
  • Specifics to affected Security products
    • An authorized user of IBM Tivoli Federated Identity Manager is any ID that accesses an application or service managed or protected by IBM Tivoli Federated Identity Manager.
    • An authorized user of IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator (ITDI) is one whose identity can be synchronized by ITDI or that can access a connected system that can be synchronized by ITDI.
    • An authorized user of IBM Tivoli Identity Manager is any ID whose identity is recorded in the Tivoli Identity Manager identity store.
    • An authorized user of IBM Tivoli Access Manager for e-business is any ID that accesses an application or service managed or protected by IBM Tivoli Access Manager for e-business.

Application Instance

A license entitlement is required for each instance of the application being connected

Client Device or Client

A client device is a computer system that requests the execution of a set of commands, procedures, or applications from another computer system that is typically referred to as a server. Multiple client devices may share access to a common server. A client device generally has some processing capability or is programmable to allow a user to do work. Examples include, but are not limited to, notebook computers, desktop computers, desk side computers, technical workstations, appliances, automated teller machines, point-of-sale terminals, tills and cash registers, and kiosks.

Concurrent User

Users accessing the server during periods of normal operation.

Engine

An engine is also referred to as a central processor (CP) or processor. Engines for traditional workloads are called General Purpose CPs. Engines for Linux workloads are called Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) engines or Linux-only engines. Engines for Coupling Facility workloads are called Integrated Coupling Facility (ICF) engines.

Enterprise

A person or single entity and the subsidiaries owned by more than 50%.

External User

An authorized user that is not part of the enterprise.

IBM Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL)

This optional facility enables additional processing capacity exclusively for Linux workload, with no effect on the model designation of a System z™ or OS/390® server. Consequently, executing Linux workload on the IBM Integrated Facility for Linux will not, in most cases, result in any increased IBM software charges for z/OS®, OS/390, VM, VSE, or TPF operating systems/applications. There is, as indicated, a charge associated with the IFL, and there may also be a charge for applications which run on the IFL.

The IFL may be dedicated to a single Linux-mode logical partition or it may be shared by multiple Linux-mode logical partitions. Installations should note that the Linux workspace enabled by this facility will not support any of the S/390® traditional operating systems (OS/390, TPF, VSE, or VM). Only Linux applications or Linux operating in conjunction with the Virtual Image Facility™, an environment that operates within a logical partition or in native S/390 mode and provides the capability to create multiple Linux images, are supported by the IBM S/390 Integrated Facility for Linux.

IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator Connected System

A connected system is any directory, database, application, or file integrated or merged by IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator.

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager HSM for Windows Terabyte (TB) Capacity

Includes primary HSM disk storage pool size combined with the amount of utilized HSM removable media storage pool. Storage pools are configured on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server.

IBM System Storage™ Archive Manager Terabyte (TB) Capacity

Includes primary disk storage pool size combined with the amount of utilized primary removable media storage used by the IBM System Storage Archive Manager server.

Capacity notes:

  • Capacity does not include:
    • Copy storage pools for the space-managed data that reside on disk.
    • Copy storage pools for the space-managed data that reside on removable media.
    • Space used on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server for any purpose other than the primary storage of space-managed data.
    • Disk on the host being space managed.
  • A virtual tape library (VTL) is considered a removable media device, so capacity is based on utilization.
  • The minimum amount of capacity that can be purchased is 1 TB.
  • Partial capacity will be rounded up to the next whole number of TB.
  • Additional capacity must be added in increments of 1 TB.

IBM TotalStorage® Productivity Center Terabyte (TB) Capacity

A TB capacity is each individual TB of storage capacity managed by the IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center products. Managed capacity for IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center for Replication and IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center for Replication Two Site BC is defined as the source device capacity. Only the source device capacity is included in this pricing definition (not. the target device).

Install

An install is a copy or instance of the program in the Enterprise.

Limited User Concurrent User

A Concurrent User limited to read-only operation. Refer to Concurrent User definition.

Managed Processor (charging under Full Capacity in the "managed environment")

Charges are based on the active processors on the machines in the computing environment affiliated with the program rather than on the server where the program is run. The managed processors which require proofs of entitlement (PoEs) are defined both in the Charges section of the Announcement or the License Information's program-unique terms.

Notes:

  1. IBM defines a physical processor in a computer as a functional unit that interprets and executes instructions. A physical processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic and logic units.
  2. Multicore technology allows two or more processors (commonly called "cores") to be active on a single silicon chip. With multicore technology, IBM considers each "core" to be a physical processor. For example, in a dual-core chip, there are two physical processors residing on the single silicon chip.
  3. The program may not run on some or all of the processors for which PoEs are required by the program's valuation method.
  4. In the System z Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) environment, each IFL engine is considered a single "physical processor".
  5. Threading, a technique that makes a single processor seem to perform as two or more, does not affect the count of physical processors.
  6. Where "blade" technology is employed, each "blade" is considered a separate server and charging is based upon the total number of processors on the blade on which the program is affiliated.
  7. Not all processors require the same number of Value Unit entitlements. To determine the number of Value Unit entitlements required, refer to the processor value unit conversion table on the Passport Advantage Web site

MSU

Millions of Service Units (MSU) is defined as millions of CPU service units per hour; the measure of capacity used to describe the computing power of the hardware processors on which S/390 or System z software runs. Processor MSU values are determined by the hardware vendor, IBM, or Software Compatible Vendors (SCVs).

Network Node or Node

Network Nodes include routers, switches, hubs, and bridges that contain a network management agent. A single Network Node may contain any number of interfaces or ports.

Network Security Device

Network Security device is any network-based security appliance or server running network security based software, that provides a source of security events or logs. Examples include, but are not limited to firewalls, application firewalls, intrusion detection systems, intrusion protection systems, virtual private networks (VPNs), threat protection products (anti-virus gateways), content filtering (Web, e-mail), identity and access management, directory servers, network anomaly behavior products, and multi-function security appliances.

Partitions

A server's resources (CPU, memory, I/O, interconnects and buses) may be divided according to the needs of the applications running on the server. This partitioning can be implemented with physical boundaries ("Physical Partitions") or logical boundaries ("Logical Partitions").

Physical Partitions are defined by a collection of processors dedicated to a workload and can be used with systems that have either multiple cards or multiple frames, each of which can be configured independently. In this method, the partitions are divided along hardware boundaries and processors, and the I/O boards, memory and interconnects are not shared.

Logical Partitions are defined by software rather than hardware and allocate a pool of processing resources to a collection of workloads. These partitions, while separated by software boundaries, share hardware components and run in one or more physical partitions.

Port

A port is the physical connection between a device and the network.

Processor ("per Processor" charging under Full Capacity)

In Full Capacity charging, Proof of Entitlements must be acquired for all activated "processors" (available for use) that are on the server where the program or a component of the program is run.

Notes:

  1. IBM defines a physical processor in a computer as a functional unit that interprets and executes instructions. A physical processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic and logic units.

Resource Value Unit

Resource Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements which is based upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. See Value Units definition.

Server

A server is a computer system that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications to one or more user and/or client devices over a network. A proof of entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for each server on which the program or a component of the program is run or for each server managed by the program. Where "blade" technology is employed, each "blade" is considered a separate Server.

Standby or Backup Systems

For programs running or resident on backup machines, IBM defines three types of situations: cold, warm, and hot. In the cold and warm situations, a separate entitlement for the copy on the backup machine is normally not required and typically no additional charge applies. In a hot backup situation, the customer needs to acquire another license or entitlement sufficient for that server. All programs running in backup mode must be solely under the customer's control, even if they are running at another enterprise's location.

As a practice, the following are definitions and allowable actions concerning the copy of the program used for backup purposes:

Warm — A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine and is started, but is "idling," and is not doing any work of any kind. There is no additional charge for this copy.

Hot — A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine, is started, and is doing work. The customer must acquire a license or entitlement for this copy and there will generally be an additional charge.

"Doing work," includes, for example, production, development, program maintenance, and testing. It also could include other activities such as mirroring of transactions, updating of files, synchronization of programs, data or other resources (for example, active linking with another machine, program, database, or other resource, and so on), or any activity or configurations that would allow an active hot switch or other synchronized switch over between programs, databases, or other resources to occur.

In the case of a program or system configuration that is designed to support a high availability environment by using various techniques (for example, duplexing, mirroring of files or transactions, maintaining a "heartbeat," active linking with another machine, program, database, or other resource, and so on), the program is considered to be doing work in the "hot" situation and a license or entitlement must be purchased.

Tivoli Management Points

A Tivoli Management Point is a metric used to compute license quantities and is program specific.

Value Units

A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements which is based upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. Each program has a designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurements are processor cores and MSUs. However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such as Servers, users, client devices, and messages. The number of Value Unit entitlements required for Your specific implementation of the given program must be obtained from a conversion table associated with the program. You must obtain a proof of entitlement (PoE) for the appropriate number of Value Unit entitlements for Your implementation. The Value Unit entitlements of a given program cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program. Whenever the designated measurement is a processor core, not all processors require the same number of Value Unit entitlements. Passport Advantage: Through the Passport Advantage Agreement, you may receive discounted pricing based on the total volume of eligible products, across all IBM brands, acquired worldwide. The volume is measured by determining the total Passport Advantage points value of the applicable acquisition. Passport Advantage points are only used for calculating the entitled Passport Advantage discount.

To determine the required Tivoli product configuration under Passport Advantage, the Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing Model applies. Your environment is evaluated on a per-product basis.

Use the following two-step process to determine the total Passport Advantage points value:

  1. Analyze your environment to determine the number of Tivoli Management Points or other charge unit for a product. The quantity of each product's part number to be ordered is determined by that analysis.
  2. Order the Passport Advantage part number. A Passport Advantage point value, which is the same worldwide for a specific part number regardless of where the order is placed, is assigned to each Tivoli product part number. The Passport Advantage point value for the applicable part number, multiplied by the quantity for that part number, will determine the Passport Advantage points for that Tivoli product part number. The sum of these Passport Advantage points determines the Passport Advantage point value of the applicable Tivoli product authorizations, which then may be aggregated with the point value of other applicable Passport Advantage product acquisitions to determine the total Passport Advantage points value.

The discounted pricing available through Passport Advantage is expressed in the form of Suggested Volume Prices (SVPs), which vary depending on the SVP level. Each SVP level is assigned a minimum total Passport Advantage point value, which must be achieved, in order to qualify for that SVP level.

Charge metrics definitions

Value Unit

A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements which is based upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. Each program has a designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurement is a processor core. However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such as users, client devices, and messages. The number of Value Unit entitlements required for a program depends on how the program is deployed in your environment and must be obtained from a Value Unit table. You must obtain a Proof of Entitlement (PoE) for the calculated number of Value Unit entitlements for your implementation. The Value Unit entitlements are specific to a program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program.

Processor (Value Unit)

A processor core is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets and executes instructions. A processor core consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic or logic unit. With multicore technology, each core is considered a processor. Not all processor cores require the same number of Value Unit entitlements. To calculate the number of Value Unit entitlements required, refer to the value unit table on the following Web site

With full capacity licensing, a Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be acquired for the appropriate number of value units based on all activated processor cores available for use on the server.

Concurrent user

A concurrent user is one and only one individual within or outside your enterprise. The number of Proof of Entitlements (PoEs) required is for the highest number of users simultaneously accessing the program or any program components either directly or indirectly (via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means on behalf of the user.

Basic license

Ordering information for Passport Advantage: Passport Advantage allows you to have a common anniversary date for Software Maintenance renewals, which can simplify management and budgeting for eligible new versions and releases (and related technical support) for your covered products. The anniversary date, established at the start of your Passport Advantage Agreement, will remain unchanged while your Passport Advantage Agreement remains in effect. New software purchases will initially include twelve full months of maintenance coverage. Maintenance in the second year (the first year of renewal) can be prorated to be coterminous with your common anniversary date. Thereafter, all software maintenance will renew at the common anniversary date and include twelve full months of maintenance.

Refer to the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement and to the IBM Software Maintenance Handbook for specific terms relating to, and a more complete description of, technical support provided through Software Maintenance.

The quantity to be specified for the Passport Advantage part numbers in the following table is per number of required Resource Value Units. To order for Passport Advantage, specify the desired part number and quantity.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information (LI) document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the Program. PoEs are required for all authorized use.

Limited warranty

Limited warranty applies: Yes

Warranty: IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all Program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known Program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. Consult the IBM Software Support Guide for further information at

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the Program ("Warranty Period").

Money-back guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, return it within 30 days from the invoice date, to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it, for a refund.

  • For programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program.
