Global Name Recognition technology can spot fraud and other threats by:

  • Increasing precision for name processing by delivering cultural classification as a range of scores for automated processing
  • Adding intelligence to automated name processing by applying business rules specific to the name's culture
  • Increasing accuracy and selectivity by examining each possible name, rather than using a key-based approach
  • Increasing usefulness of search results by delivering matched names in ranked order with a confidence score for automated processing
  • Reducing false positives by intelligently processing the cultural variations found in names

Overview

IBM Entity Analytics Solutions Global Name Recognition consists of a set of best-of-breed, name-recognition, and name-scoring technologies that solve the complex problem of searching and managing data on individuals in a multicultural, error-prone world. The technologies can spot fraud and other threats.

The software takes into account alternative spellings, cultural nuances, and other linguistic issues in an attempt to return the most relevant information for a search query, rather than a laundry list of close matches.

Global Name Recognition technologies include:

  • Global Name Management V2.2 bundle
  • Global Name Analytics V2.2 bundle
  • Global Name Scoring V2.2 bundle
  • Global Name Reference Encyclopedia V2.2

In addition, this release of Global Name Recognition contains:

  • Enhanced platform support — zLinux and 64-bit support across all Global Name Recognition bundles
  • Transliteration for Global Name Management — Optional feature that requires the Global Name Management bundle
  • Transliteration for Global Name Scoring — Optional feature that requires the Global Name Scoring bundle

The optional transliteration features make it possible to take names in native script or Romanized form, perform transliteration to accommodate internal Global Name Recognition processing, and return results in the original native script form or Romanized name, matching the way it was input.

Name-recognition technology is used by international government and commercial clients, and complements existing Entity Analytic Solutions, including technology acquired last year through the purchase of identity resolution company SRD.

Description

Global Name Management V2.2

The Global Name Management bundle is a best-of-breed suite of name-recognition and name-scoring technologies designed to address the specific needs and demands of managing, searching, scoring, and matching multicultural name data sets. It consists of the complete analytic and scoring capabilities.

While most traditional name-recognition software is designed to manage and score data assets in westernized, Romanized cultures, the Global Name Management bundle was designed using the unique knowledge base of Entity Analytics Solutions (EAS). This knowledge base consists of the global linguistic knowledge and expertise gained from 20 years of linguistic research and the analysis of nearly a billion names from across the world.

Working from this ever-expanding knowledge base, EAS has developed a suite of tools designed to meet the unique demands of managing data sets from cultures as diverse as Anglo/European, Arabic, Chinese, Hispanic, French, German, Indian, Korean, Pakistani, Russian/Slavic, Thai, Japanese, Western African cultures, and more.

Global Name Management leverages cultural-specific name data and builds rules associated with the names culture to perform the best matching, management, parsing, and scoring results. Global Name Management is an industry-leading technology that lets you search, recognize, and manage multicultural names, screen potential threats, and perform background checks across multiple geographies and cultures.

Global Name Analytics V2.2

The Global Name Analytics bundle is a stand-alone, best-of-breed suite of name-recognition technologies that addresses the specific needs and demands of managing multicultural name data sets. It provides cultural classification of a personal name, allowing greater accuracy when applying linguistic and statistical analysis on the names, including:

  • Recognizing the gender
  • Providing frequency information — Probability a name token is a masculine or feminine name
  • Determining which name, of a given name combination, is likely to be the given name or surname
  • Generating possible alternative romanized spellings for a name

Global Name Scoring V2.2

Global Name Scoring is a stand-alone bundle for clear text and phonology-oriented search and scoring of multicultural names in a database to provide the most likely variations. Names can be matched even if they are affected by typical spelling and cultural variations, related by sound but not by spelling, or damaged by spelling and typing errors. The vagueness and inexactness of transliteration and pronunciation can be overcome when working with the great variety of contrasting cultural naming patterns and styles of use around the globe.

Global Name Scoring improves the accuracy of name searching, transliteration, and the quality of identity verification initiatives by providing ranked search results, based on the linguistic, phonetic, and specific cultural variation patterns of names. It works from a knowledge base of information focused on the specific culture of a name and utilizes these rules associated with the names from that culture to perform the best matching and the best search results. Based on an industry-leading technology, it lets you search and recognize foreign names, screen potential threats, and perform background checks across multiple geographies and cultures.

Global Name Reference Encyclopedia V2.2

This interactive encyclopedia includes culture-specific information about names, their use, their meanings, and their patterns of spelling variations. It is a stand-alone offering that leverages a vast store of cultural and linguistic knowledge and was developed using detailed studies of nearly a billion names from every country in the world.

With this release, new cultural information is provided on Indian and Vietnamese names. In addition, there is a new Standard Telegraphic Code (STC)-character lookup capability for Chinese, which allows you to access character variants and dialects for Chinese by specifying just the STC character.

Transliteration for Global Name Management V2.2

This optional feature works with the transliteration function in the NameHunter component of the Global Name Management bundle. It enables NameHunter to recognize and process non-Roman scripts for Arabic, Cyrillic, and Greek. This means that the application may provide names in these languages in their native script form. Input files can contain all non-Roman script, all ASCII characters (Roman script), or a mixture of characters.

Transliteration for Global Name Scoring V2.2

This optional feature provides the same functionality for the Global Name Scoring bundle.

Additional platform support

zLinux and 64-bit platform support is added across all Global Name Recognition bundles with this release.

Server

A server is a computer system that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications to one or more user and/or client devices over a network. A proof of entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for each server on which the program or a component of the program is run or for each server managed by the program. Where "blade" technology is employed, each "blade" is considered a separate server.

Authorized user

An authorized user is one and only one individual (named or unnamed) within or outside your enterprise. A PoE must be obtained for each individual user accessing the program in any manner. A program licensed under an authorized user PoE may be installed on a single computer or server, and accessed by multiple users, provided that a PoE has been obtained for each individual user accessing the program either directly or indirectly (via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means on behalf of the user.

Program technical support: Technical support of a program product will be available for a minimum of three years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Maintenance is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you with access to updates, releases, and versions of the program. Customers will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Money-back guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, return it within 30 days from the invoice date, to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it, for a refund.

For programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program.

IBM Electronic Services

IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available on the IBM eServer® platform. These services provide the opportunity for greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services is comprised of two separate but complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent™.

IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The IBM Electronic Service Agent is no-additional charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system. It is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM.

Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
