| Description |
WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced V6.0.2 and WebSphere Business Modeler Basic V6.0.2 feature the following key product enhancements.
New simplified user interface for defining business measures
The Business Measures editor in WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced V6.0.1 has been replaced with an easier to use user interface, which enables business users to more quickly and easily define KPIs and business measures associated with their processes. This new component, targeted specifically at business users, allows the users to efficiently define all the business-level information needed to describe their monitoring needs based on their business objectives. This information includes the name, description, and targets and ranges of the KPI or metric being defined, as well as how the resulting monitored information should be visualized in the dashboard views of WebSphere Business Monitor. The more complex and technical tasks that are typically performed by more technical users, such as specifying KPI calculations, expressions, and deploying the business measure model on a runtime, have been removed from WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced, and are now delivered as part of the new business measures tooling for WebSphere Business Monitor V6.0.2. For more information on the new business measures capabilities in WebSphere Business Monitor V6.0.2, refer to Software Announcement 206-254 , dated October 10, 2006.
Improved process modeling capabilities
WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced V6.0.2 and WebSphere Business Modeler Basic V6.0.2 provide a number of process modeling enhancements. These include the ability for users to now be able to perform the following actions:
- Copy and paste parts of WebSphere Business Modeler process diagrams into other tools, including Microsoft Powerpoint and Microsoft Word
- Publish process models in selected swimlane formats to WebSphere Business Modeler Publishing Server V6.0.2
- Import business services (WSDL) and business objects (XSD), for improving the SOA lifecycle
- Scroll when selecting multiple elements using a marquee selection tool
- Re-order input and output branches of decisions, merges, joins, and forks, as can be currently done for tasks
- Search for model elements by name and by description
Enhanced reporting and printing capabilities
WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced V6.0.2 and WebSphere Business Modeler Basic V6.0.2 provide the following enhancements to their reporting and printing features:
- Ability to define and apply a header and/or footer master to one or more report templates.
- New data formatter for date, duration, currency, integers, doubles, percentage, boolean (globalize and localize), so that, for example, "2006-03-23T12:00:00-05:00" converts to "March 23, 2006, 12:00 EST".
- Ability to define global parameters to multiple reports, such as a company name or logo.
- Ability to sort fields in the Report Designer by ascending or descending order, to produce structured reports.
- Ability to export profile and dynamic analysis reports in XML format, for use with other tools.
Enriched simulation and dynamic analysis
WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced V6.0.2 also provides enhancements to its simulation and dynamic analysis capabilities, as follows:
- New animation support available when simulating models in swimlane format.
- Enhanced simulation validation through the auto-detection of missing stop nodes during simulation snapshot creation time, and the reporting of any encountered errors in the error view.
- The addition of working and resource duration attributes to the Process Instance Summary and Process Instance Time dynamic analysis reports.
More about WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced
WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced bridges the gap between line of business and IT. It provides robust functionality for process modeling, enterprise modeling, essential data and artifact modeling, organization modeling, resource modeling, timeline and location modeling, and business process analysis. The Modeler is intuitive and easy to use with six modes:
- Basic
- Intermediate
- Advanced
- Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) for either the WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation or WebSphere Process Server runtime
- WebSphere MQ Workflow Flow Definition Language (FDL)
With WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced, business and IT communities utilize an Eclipse-based shared workspace. BPEL and FDL allow you to work in the mode with which you will be deploying. Business analysis is core for improving your business. Many business process modeling efforts stop at developing flow diagrams or process maps. With WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced, the effort is extended to include simulation, analysis, and redesign.
WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced has a very flexible and visual process modeling environment that is enhanced by the ability to color code the elements by role, classification, or organization units. In addition to the name of the object, labels can be added to the top and bottom of an object. User customization allows the appropriate labels to be displayed on the model, at the appropriate time. In addition to these visual analysis techniques, a swimlane view can be used to display the model according to role, resource, organization unit, and classifier. Modeler also provides the ability to view the model via swimlanes and also edit the model in the swimlane view.
WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced includes a simulation engine that allows you to simulate the dynamic behavior of your process, permitting analysis of workloads and bottlenecks. You can view analysis on the process, resources, activity, and queue during the simulation or after the simulation is complete. The flows are animated in a step-by-step simulation that allows you to see real-time data on the flows. Simulation snapshots are available for reference. The simulation engine enables you to determine the most efficient model, prior to implementation, by quickly conducting the "what-if" analysis. To quickly go from the modeling phase to the simulation phase, metric information (such as costs and time) are entered into the model while it is being modeled in the process editor.
WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced provides capabilities for adding and viewing simulation attributes in a table format to simplify the steps to adding the attributes and running a simulation. In addition, distributions are available that support statistical types of analysis that have been widely used in the healthcare industry, which are also applicable across industries. These distributions are Weibull, Continuous, Beta, Erlang, Johnson, and Triangular.
WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced includes a reporting tool that can automatically create written, numerical, and graphical reports. The reports provide valuable guidance in the process analysis and redesign. Some of the predefined reports are:
- Process Summary Report provides a single report that contains essential cost and time analysis reports.
- Process Comparison Reports combines and compares the Process Summary Reports from two process simulations for comparisons and provides ROI comparisons of as-is and to-be flows.
- Documentation Report provides an overview of the attributes of business items, resources, or other model elements.
- Procedure Report documents the sequence of steps within a process, and the relationships of that process to other processes and roles.
These reports allow for a detailed weighted average analysis to validate and optimize the processes defined. You can improve your business by understanding the processes' time and cost performances. All of this can be rolled up into comprehensive communication tools through charts, tables, reports, graphs, or diagrams. If a customized report is needed, there is a Report Designer to help you generate it, as well as publish it to the Web.
Modeler also includes integration with Crystal reports enabling you to create reports in Crystal reports that can combine business process information with additional business information.
Once the models have been built, simulated, analyzed, and corrected, you can deploy them to multiple code generation tools. The models can be exported to WebSphere Studio Application Developer Integration Edition V5.1 through BPEL, Web Services Description Language (WSDL), and XML schema definitions (XSDs). In addition WebSphere Business Modeler exports to the new WebSphere Integration Developer tooling environment through the generation of Service Component Architecture (SCA) components, modules, task execution language (TEL) for human tasks, BPEL, WSDL, and XSDs. In addition, WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced can create the wiring of those artifacts. WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced also supports the capability to export to Rational® XDE®, under the Business Modeling Profile. Integration with Rational Software Architect (RSA) is performed within the RSA environment by importing the WebSphere Business Modeler process models into the RSA tool. And finally, the tool still supports integration with WebSphere MQ Workflow through flow definition language (FDL). FDL can be exported directly to WebSphere MQ Workflow Build-time.
In addition to the deployment capabilities, WebSphere Business Modeler provides model management capabilities by being able to version, check in and check out, merge, and compare different versions, track element history, and get a specific version from the history. These capabilities are provided by the CVS plug-in as part of the Eclipse platform. WebSphere Business Modeler offers optional support for Rational ClearCase® as a version control system.
WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced is able to import FDL from WebSphere MQ Workflow, models from WebSphere Business Integration Modeler V4.2.4, and WebSphere Business Integration Modeler V5 models. Included with the product are Visio import capabilities as well as a proprietary XML import and export capabilities. This XML capability can be used to facilitate integration with other tools, allowing users to import information from external sources, as well as export it to additional environments.
Modeler allows you to support and implement enterprise initiatives, such as:
- Workflow automation
- Policy and procedure documentation
- Application development
- Sarbanes-Oxley initiatives
- HIPAA
WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced provides support for:
- WebSphere MQ Workflow by exporting in FDL
- WebSphere Server Foundation by exporting in BPEL
- WebSphere Process Server by exporting BPEL
- Rational XDE through UML 1.4 export

Charge metrics definitions
Value Unit
A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements which is based upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. Each program has a designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurement is a processor core. However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such as users, client devices, and messages. The number of Value Unit entitlements required for your specific implementation of the given program must be obtained from a conversion table associated with the program. You must obtain a proof of entitlement (POE) for the appropriate number of Value Unit entitlements for your implementation. The Value Unit entitlements of a given program cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program.
Processor (Value Unit)
A processor (commonly called a CPU or core) is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets and executes instructions. A processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic and/or logic unit. With multicore technology, each core is considered a processor. Not all processors require the same number of Value Unit entitlements. To determine the number of Value Unit entitlements required, refer to the processor Value Unit conversion table on the Passport Advantage Web site
With full capacity licensing, a proof of entitlement (POE) must be acquired for the appropriate number of value units based on all activated processors on the server available to the program or a component of the program.
Authorized user
An authorized user is one and only one individual (named or unnamed) within or outside your enterprise. A PoE must be obtained for each individual user accessing the program in any manner. A program licensed under an authorized user PoE may be installed on a single computer or server, and accessed by multiple users, provided that a PoE has been obtained for each individual user accessing the program either directly or indirectly (via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means on behalf of the user.

| IBM Electronic Services |
IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available on the IBM eServer® platform. These services provide the opportunity for greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services is comprised of two separate but complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent.
IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The IBM Electronic Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system. It is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
