Device considerations and limitations

  • The design of some devices may limit the DB2 Everyplace capabilities that can be used by the device. Not all devices can support all of the functions offered by DB2 Everyplace.
  • IBM cannot guarantee that all devices will work correctly due to differences in manufacturing, configuration, and preloaded device software. In particular, for Linux, QNX, and Windows CE.NET platforms, binaries are available only on selected processor platforms.
  • Some DB2 Everyplace Clients for the supported devices are available as downloads rather than being included on the DB2 Everyplace media.
  • Availability of devices and the level of device support may change over time based on device manufacturers' actions. Some devices may go out of support; new devices may be added.

The following are supported data sources for DB2 Everyplace Enterprise Edition:

  • DB2 V8.2 and V9.1 for Windows, Linux, AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris
  • DB2 UDB V8.1 for z/OS®

Processor

A processor (commonly called a "CPU" or "core") is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets and executes instructions. A processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic or logic unit. With multicore technology each core is considered a processor. With full capacity licensing, a proof of entitlement (PoE) must be acquired for all activated processors on the server available to the program or a component of the program.

Authorized user

An authorized user is one and only one individual (named or unnamed) within or outside your enterprise. A PoE must be obtained for each individual user accessing the program in any manner. A program licensed under an authorized user PoE may be installed on a single computer or server, and accessed by multiple users, provided that a PoE has been obtained for each individual user accessing the program either directly or indirectly (via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means on behalf of the user.

Before using this program, you agree to register the appropriate license key using the included DB2 License Center component. The license key is included with your PoE.

Program components

The program contains components that are provided to support your authorized use of the program on server machines within your enterprise. If you want to perform multiple installations or distribution of these components, you must contact IBM or its reseller to obtain the appropriate licenses.

Usage restriction — Other IBM programs: If this program is acquired through the acquisition of another IBM program, the program-unique terms contained within that other IBM program take precedence.

Terms and conditions for specific products

For further information, refer to the specific program terms and conditions, which are located with the program in the "license" directory.

DB2 Everyplace Database Edition

This program is based on the authorized user charge metric; there are no restrictions on the number of authorized users.

DB2 Everyplace Enterprise Edition

This program is available on either a per processor or per authorized user pricing model. If charges for this program are based on the authorized user charge metric, it must be licensed to a minimum of 25 authorized users per processor on which DB2 Everyplace is installed or the total number of authorized users accessing the DB2 Everyplace, whichever is greater.

Terms and conditions for High availability/Failover licensing

You must license this configuration under the same charge metric as the underlying DB2 data server.

After the server is fully licensed, it can be used to service user workload. In high availability configurations this server is called a primary server; additional servers acting as backups are called standby servers that may be deployed in active or idle configurations.

In active standby or idle standby, you must acquire a correct number of processor or authorized user PoEs in addition to the processor or authorized user PoE you obtained for the primary server.

Active standby

In an active standby configuration, the program is operational on all servers to service user transactions or queries. Because each of the active standby servers is used to operate the program for user transactions or queries before and after a failure, the program must be fully licensed on all active servers.

If you are licensing under the processor charge metric, then in active standby, you must license the program for the number of processors attached or available to the active standby servers. For example, consider an environment with two servers, one primary server with two processors and one active standby server with two processors. This environment must be licensed for four processors (two for the primary server and two for the active standby server).

If you are licensing under the authorized user charge metric, then in active standby, you must license the program for the number of authorized users associated with the active standby servers for which DB2 is installed. For example, consider an environment with two servers, one primary server with DB2 installed on two processors and the other an active standby server with DB2 installed on two processors. The primary server must be licensed with the minimum number of authorized users for the server on which DB2 is installed or the total number of authorized users accessing the data server installed on the two processors, whichever is greater. For the active standby server, the server must be licensed in the same manner as the primary server; for example, the minimum number of authorized users for the active standby server or the total number of authorized users accessing the data server, whichever is greater.

Idle standby

In an idle standby configuration, idle standby servers have the program installed. However, they do not have the program operational to service user transactions or query workloads. A server is considered "idle" if it is used exclusively for administrative actions that assist in failover scenarios such as having a database in roll-forward pending state to support log shipping, or in making a flash copy of a DB2 database and then performing a database backup of this copy on another server, or in keeping a standby database synchronized using the High Availability Disaster Recovery component.

If you are licensing under the processor charge metric, then in idle standby, you must license the program for one processor per idle standby server only, regardless of the number of processors attached or available to the server. For example, consider an environment with two servers, one primary server with two processors and one idle standby server with two processors. This environment must be licensed for three processors (two for the primary server and one for the idle standby server).

If you are licensing under the authorized user charge metric, then in idle standby, you must license the program for the minimum number of authorized users per idle standby server only. For example, consider an environment with two servers, one primary server with DB2 installed on two processors and one idle standby server with two processors. The primary server must be licensed with the minimum number of authorized users for each of the two processors for which DB2 is installed, or the total number of authorized users accessing the data server installed on the two processors, whichever is greater. For the idle standby server, only the minimum number of authorized users associated with the server must be licensed.

Usage restriction: DB2 Mobility on Demand

DB2 Mobility on Demand is included as a restricted version of DB2 Everyplace Enterprise Edition in the following DB2 Servers for Linux, UNIX®, and Windows:

  • DB2 Enterprise Server Edition
  • DB2 Database Enterprise Developer Edition
  • DB2 Connect® Application Server Edition
  • DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition for zSeries®
  • DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition for iSeries

Restriction: The PoE for these programs entitles you to use the Mobility on Demand component. Your use of the Mobility on Demand component is limited in that the sync server component of Mobility on Demand must coexist on the same server as the licensed DB2 data server and is only licensed for access to data that resides on DB2 server where the program is installed. The Mobility on Demand component may not be used for any other purpose. The Mobility on Demand capability is licensed under the terms of the DB2 Servers edition it is obtained with. For example, if a customer is using DB2 Enterprise Server Edition licensed for two processors, the Mobility on Demand capability can also be run on those two processors with unlimited users.

Migration: If you have older DB2 Servers edition and upgrades to a later version (for example, DB2 Universal Database® Enterprise Server Edition V8.2 to DB2 Enterprise Server Edition V9.1), no migration path is provided to the latest version of Mobility on Demand. You will need to purchase a full PoE for the appropriate DB2 Everyplace edition.

Software Maintenance applies: Yes

Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Software Subscription and Technical Support, is included in the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. Installation and technical support is provided by the Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations.

IBM Electronic Services

IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available on the IBM eServer® platform. These services provide the opportunity for greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services is comprised of two separate but complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent™.

IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The IBM Electronic Service Agent is no-additional charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system. It is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
