WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition is easy to install and administer so enterprise-strength search applications can be up and running quickly. Designed to reduce IT staffing requirements for administration, its analysis features are transparent, minimizing administrative tasks required to achieve high-quality search results. WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition makes it easy to define appropriate security, monitor system activity, and troubleshoot any problem that may occur.

WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition delivers the infrastructure to support document, or collection-level security to help ensure that users cannot retrieve information they are not authorized to view. The flexible security model offers alternatives for associating security information with each document at crawl time, including using the native access control lists of the repositories to deliver a first level of security support in the index. Additional efficient security checking can be specified at query time, to ensure that query users see only those documents they are authorized to view.

WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition fits easily into corporate Java™ applications. It includes a sample search application that can be used as a template for creating search applications that meet the special needs of a given organization. The product includes flexible security mechanisms for protecting corporate assets from disclosure, out-of-the-box sample portlet for integration into portal environments, and a well-defined Java API built around the IBM strategic interface for indexed search solutions.

When thinking about search function, most people immediately think of their favorite Internet search site. However, there are major differences between corporate content and Internet-based content. Different content sources require specific techniques to determine document relevancy; specialized security and access models must be used; and tailored user requirements must be met for high-quality search results.

Some of the most successful search techniques for the Web page ranking, for example, are not optimized for a corporate environment in which documents are not as interlinked to each other as on the Internet. WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition uses state-of-the-art relevancy algorithms that are specifically designed to deliver highly relevant search results from corporate intranet information. To support the specific needs of unique corporate environments, administrators have the capability to influence ranking algorithms.

Most current search engines search for words in documents, and this works well for many search domains. However, there is a huge potential for improved and refined search quality based on a deeper understanding of the context of the search. The WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition offers a run-time environment in which developers can plug in and run their UIMA component implementations (called "annotators" or "text analysis engines"), along with other independently-developed components. With this run-time environment, developers can also build and deploy UIMA applications.

WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition externalizes the UIMA framework to enable companies, services, or vendors to develop powerful analytic applications. This solution incorporates better text analytic processing into the search experience, leading to improved relevance for an ever-broadening set of search applications.

WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition offers WebSphere Portal clients enhanced, leading-edge search capabilities with a broader information reach and scalability to millions of documents. WebSphere Portal Search clients have a seamless transition to WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition, which imports and reuses existing portal taxonomies for navigation and categorization, migrates rules for rule-based classification, and delivers the same user experience as the WebSphere Portal Search Center Portlet. In addition, administrators have a familiar console for fast implementation.

Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act

WebSphere OmniFind Edition is capable as of January 17, 2006, when used in accordance with the IBM associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product interoperates with it properly. Product positioning

IBM search technology is comes either as a stand-alone product offering — WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition — or as the embedded Portal Search Engine feature of WebSphere Portal. The IBM Research and development organizations have invested heavily to deliver a common search technology framework, so that a best-of-breed approach can be used throughout the IBM product portfolio.

The Portal Search Engine integrates seamlessly into WebSphere Portal and IBM Workplace Collaboration Services. It is the ideal solution for searching within Portal and Workplace resources and moderately sized collections of Web content.

Using the same underlying technology framework, WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition delivers significant enhancements in scalability, performance, administrative tools, and the reach to pull in information from multiple disparate repositories. Paired with additional search features and functions that increase the end-user's search experience, WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition is the strategic IBM enterprise-strength search middleware platform.

The Portal Search Engine capabilities embedded in WebSphere Portal are best suited for small- to moderately-sized portals deployments where access to Web-enabled data is of prime importance. WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition is optimal for users who:

  • Need an intelligent, yet scalable search engine, regardless of which portal product they use
  • Operate in a multi-lingual environment
  • Look to implement a search middleware solution across a company
  • Need native, seamless access to a large set of disparate data sources

In collaboration solutions, WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition facilitates research and information sharing. Organizations generate a myriad of documents, specifications, reports, spreadsheets, and so on to describe business strategy, processes, applications, practices, and results. Individuals struggle to find the most relevant information necessary to make effective business decisions. WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Editon offers high-quality enterprise search to help deliver the right information to the right people at the right time.

In portal projects, WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition simplifies and enriches deployments. Portals, by their nature, are windows into multiple application and data domains. WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition helps you find relevant corporate information and helps developers deliver integrated views of diverse content for higher customer satisfaction and increased employee productivity. First, WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition enterprise search middleware can replace embedded portal search function with broader content access, more scalable implementations, and richer text analytics, resulting in better search results across more information than embedded portal search.

Also, WebSphere Portal clients can migrate their existing taxonomy and classification rules to WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition, making it the logical choice to upgrade existing implementations.

WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition offers WebSphere Portal clients enhanced search capabilities with a broader content reach and scalability to millions of documents. WebSphere Portal Search clients have a seamless transition to WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition, which imports and reuses existing portal taxonomies for navigation and categorization, migrates rules for rule-based classification, and delivers the same user experience as the WebSphere Portal's Search Center Portlet. In addition, administrators have a familiar console to get up and running quickly.

In content management solutions, WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition provides the capability to find the most relevant search results in response to a query instead of all of the search results that meet the terms of a query. A common issue in developing successful search applications involving information stored in content management systems is the need for disparate information in multiple repositories to be associated to increase the relevancy of search results. For instance, one client required the capability to crawl client data stored in an Oracle database and relate them to documents stored in a DB2 Content Manager system. The OmniFind metadata plug-in feature associated the Oracle client information to enhance the metadata for each record stored in DB2 Content Manager in order to enhance search relevancy.

As part of business intelligence solutions, WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition delivers a text analytics middleware platform based on the Unstructured Information Management Architecture (UIMA). UIMA is an open framework for building analytic applications that process unstructured information to find latent meaning, relationships, and relevant facts hidden in unstructured text.

UIMA defines a common, standard interface that enables text analytics components from multiple vendors to work together. It delivers tools for either creating new interoperable text analytics modules or enabling existing text analytics investments to operate within the framework. Text analytics can analyze documents, comment and note fields, problem reports, e-mail, Web sites and other text-based information sources. Extracted information can be used to enhance the quality of search results, loaded to a table in an Oracle or DB2 Universal Database or data warehouse, where standard business intelligence reporting tools can be used to perform analysis on the new set of information to deliver a more complete view of operations, opportunities, and risks.

Sample text analytics applications

  • Product defect detection. Analysis of service and maintenance records offers early insight into product defects and service issues before they become widespread, thus enabling quicker resolution and lower after-market service and recall costs.
  • Insurance fraud analysis. Analysis of claims documentation, policies, and other client information allows organizations to identify patterns and hidden relationships in claims activities to reduce incidents of fraud and unnecessary payouts.
  • Advanced intelligence for anti-terrorism and law enforcement. Analysts can uncover hidden patterns and identify potential criminal or terrorist activity by better analysis of various information sources such as field analyst reports, surveillance transcripts, public records and financial transactions.
  • Semantic search. UIMA extends user queries beyond simple keywords and finds desired concepts and relationships that may appear in the text.
  • Client support and self-service. Analysis of call center logs, support e-mails, and other support documentation delivers more accurate problem identification to better identify appropriate resolutions.
  • e-Commerce and product finders. Clients can find both target and complementary products online, and sales reps can make the right cross-sell offer by identifying relationships and concepts from analysis of product content, client profiles, and sales notes.

Charge metrics definitions

Processor

In Full Capacity charging — PoEs must be acquired for all activated "processors" (available for use) that are on the server where the program or a component of the program is run.

  1. If there are program components included in the offering whose function is not to be included in the charge metric, these must be listed in the program-unique terms of the License Information.
  2. IBM defines a physical processor in a computer as a functional unit that interprets and executes instructions. A physical processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic and logic units.
  3. Multi-core technology allows two or more processors (commonly called "cores") to be active on a single silicon chip. Unless otherwise announced, with multi-core technology, IBM considers each "core" to be a physical processor. For example, in a dual-core chip, there are two (2) physical processors residing on the single silicon chip.
  4. In the zSeries® Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) environment, each IFL engine is considered a single "physical processor".
  5. Threading, a technique which makes a single processor seem to perform as two or more, does NOT affect the count of physical processors.
  6. Where "blade" technology is employed, each "blade" is considered a separate server and charging is based upon the total number of processors on the blade on which the Program is run.

Connector

WebSphere Information Integrator Connector entitles you to have one connector for accessing remote data source from the server on which the program is installed.
