Overview

IBM Lotus® Domino™ for z/OS® V7.0 is the next installment of the security-rich messaging and collaboration platform. This release includes improvements in performance, administration, serviceability, and, in most cases, total cost of ownership (TCO). Lotus Domino for z/OS V7.0 delivers capacity and performance improvements for the Lotus Domino server, increased reliability, more integration with WebSphere®, advanced administration updates, and improved serviceability. This release can help lower the investment required for Lotus Domino, as well as deliver a more reliable, available, and serviceable world-class security-rich collaboration solution.

Description

IBM Lotus Domino Server software combines enterprise-class messaging and calendar/scheduling capabilities with a robust platform for collaborative applications on a wide variety of operating systems. Version 7 is the latest version of Lotus Domino Server, offering major improvements and brand new features for the Lotus Domino Server. Major themes and features of Lotus Domino for z/OS V7.0 include:

Lotus Domino Server

  • Opportunity for performance improvements that may reduce the total cost of ownership, including Lotus Notes Mail®, Lotus Domino Web Access (DWA), and Lotus Domino Internet Inter-ORB Protocol (DIIOP)
  • Major administration improvements, including Lotus Domino Domain Monitoring (DDM), Linux/Mozilla Web Administration, and policy management improvements
  • Hardware compression for transaction logs
  • Increased system data collection from Name Server Daemon (NSD) for first-failure data capture
  • Improved security features relating to single signon (SSO) and Lotus Notes® RPC
  • Support for Java™ SDK 1.4.2, which supports the use of the IBM eServer zSeries® Application Assist Processor (zAAP)
  • Increased application flexibility with Web Services provider entity support that enables Lotus Domino applications to be made available through Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and HTTP

Lotus Domino Web Access

  • A NOTES.INI setting that Lotus Domino administrators can use to prohibit access to attachments in calendar and scheduling documents, online meetings, and e-mail
  • Improvements to the integrated Instant Messaging feature that make it more robust and more closely mirror the Lotus Notes client awareness features
  • Support for S/MIME
  • End-user enhancements that allow you to:
    • Set a calendar preference to disable drag-and-drop and in-place editing in your calendar
    • Set preferences to import holidays into your calendar using predefined sets that are country specific
    • View mail threads, which group a message together with the responses to it
    • Create stationery that you can reuse for mail messages

Planning information

Customer responsibilities: This is a follow-on product to Lotus® Domino™ for z/OS, V6.5 (5655-K36). Lotus Domino for z/OS, V6.5 remains orderable and in service.

Security, auditability, and control

The announced program uses the security and auditability features of the host hardware or operating system software. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

Ordering information

New licensees

Orders for new licenses of Lotus Domino for z/OS V7.0 can be placed now.

Lotus Domino for z/OS V7.0 shipments will not occur before availability date.

Unless a later date is specified, orders entered before the planned availability date will be assigned a schedule date of one week following availability.

Shipment will begin on the planned availability date.

Orders entered after the planned availability date will be assigned a schedule date for the week following order entry.

New users of Lotus Domino for z/OS V7.0 should specify:

Parallel Sysplex® license charge (PSLC) basic license: To order a basic license, specify the program number and quantity of MSU.

If there is more than one program copy in a Parallel Sysplex, the charge for all copies is associated to one license by specifying the applicable PSLC license options and quantity represented by the sum of the Service Units in Millions (MSUs) in your Parallel Sysplex. For all other program copies, specify the System Usage Registration No-Charge (SYSUSGREG NC) Identifier on the licenses.
