Description

As organizations strive to make their operations more cost-effective and efficient in an increasingly on demand environment, content management technology is key to helping them gain a competitive edge, to respond faster to customers and suppliers, and to increase their bottom line. Content management technology can help organizations solve a critical problem managing and integrating all forms of information, including scanned images, audio, and information from multiple software vendors' products that are located in various data sources. Content management is the next wave of data management, and DB2 Content Manager is helping customers worldwide digitize and manage all forms of information in an effort to respond faster to market demands, tap into new markets, and ultimately increase profits.

DB2 Content Manager for z/OS, V8.3 is a scalable, technologically advanced enterprise content management (ECM) solution that enables you to leverage your digital business information for powerful new applications that help you strengthen your competitive advantage. From documents to photographs, and e-mails, DB2 Content Manager supports numerous business content formats, organizing this mission-critical business information in central or distributed repositories.

New in DB2 Content Manager for z/OS, V8.3

DB2 Content Manager for z/OS support for TSM APIs

With DB2 Content Manager for z/OS, V8.3, the capabilities of the DB2 Content Manager for z/OS Resource Manager are expanded with the introduction of new TSM support. TSM support allows customers to not only store objects to a DB2 datastore using the Object Access Method (OAM), but also leverages the function provided by the TSM APIs. Storing objects to a resource manager on z/OS and a TSM collection increases the maximum object size currently supported and offers a higher degree of concurrency than can be achieved using OAM. Plus, the choice of hardware storage and retention devices expands with this addition of TSM support.

Document routing and workflow enhancements

Document routing is enhanced to include decision points, actions, action lists, parallel routing, and LOB access nodes. In addition, a new graphical builder within the system administration client enables non-technical business users to define document routing processes.

  • The decision point capability enables decision making in the process based on the item attributes (for example, claim amount < 1000), process properties (for example, process priority > 100), and process container data (for example, decision = approve).
  • Through actions and action lists, users can define custom operations in the process.
  • The parallel routing capability allows the concurrent processing of a document or folder through the process.
  • The LOB access node supports the integration of your process with external LOB business logic.
  • The graphical process builder supports the process modeling of simple sequential routing and sophisticated routing with decision points, actions/action lists, parallel routing, and LOB access. With the ease of use of the builder, you can delegate modeling and deploying processes to non-technical business users.

Java-based host APIs

These new z/OS-based APIs are available under UNIX® Systems Service and allow integration to z/OS-based LOB applications, which are standalone Java applications running under UNIX Systems Services or WebSphere® Application Server Java applications on z/OS.

Export/import administration data enhancement

The Microsoft™ Windows™-based system administration client enables the user to export the system administration data into an XML readable file and import that data from an XML file. This capability enables the user to copy the administrative settings from one server to another by exporting the information and importing it into the systems. The user can list the system administration object names that are in a DB2 Content Manager or a DB2 Information Integrator for Content system into an XML file.

The new XML capability provides a GUI mapping tool to easily map a user XML schema to DB2 Content Manager data model. The user can also import and export DB2 Content Manager data model instances as XML documents.

Search enhancements

The query function in DB2 Content Manager is enhanced to include the following support:

  • Query on checked-out items
  • Row-based view filtering in query
  • Get the count of query results without getting the results themselves
  • Use of the IN operator to compare an attribute's value to a list of values
  • Internal query optimization to reduce the length of the generated SQL statements

Accessibility improvement

Accessibility features help users with a physical disability, such as restricted mobility or limited vision, to use software products successfully. DB2 Content Manager for z/OS V8.3 enhances product accessibility features. For example, new shortcuts have been added to help you operate all features using the keyboard instead of the mouse.

Serviceability improvements

DB2 Content Manager for z/OS, V8.3 provides logs with similar characteristics, which cover most system components:

  • The system administration client now provides the log control utility, which you can use to set log and trace parameters for multiple system components
  • A default common directory for all log files
  • A standard log file timestamp format using Greenwich Mean Time

DB2 Information Integrator for Content capability

DB2 Information Integrator for Content capability is included with DB2 Content Manager Enterprise Edition, which is included with DB2 Content Manager for z/OS, providing an integration framework that is consistent across all supported servers.

A federated connector is provided as the common interface for federated DB2 Content Manager integration applications. This framework allows data and digital content sources to be accessed with common APIs and components (for example, JavaBeans). Applications can be written to the federated connector as well as the following native connector interfaces that are included with the program materials:

  • Content Manager V8.2, V8.3
  • Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms V7.1, V8.3
