Description

DB2 Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms V8.3 adds Linux on Intel™ support to the many operating systems platforms already supported by DB2 Content Manager OnDemand.

Linux can help build a computing environment to meet the needs of your on demand business. An environment needs to be integrated, open, virtualized, and autonomic. The scalability, reliability, and adaptability of the Linux system make it an ideal choice for enterprises looking for a flexible computing environment that can change with their needs. Open standards allow the interoperability of various applications, technologies, and computer devices.

DB2 Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms with Linux on Intel offers a strategic path to the future of on demand content management with a proven solution. Take advantage of the many features that DB2 Content Manager OnDemand V8.3 has to offer, on an exciting new platform, that provides increased flexibility and superior price-performance.

New with DB2 Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms V8.3

The DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit is now part of the base DB2 Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms base product. Your license to DB2 Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms now entitles the use of the DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit.

Now available on all DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Platforms

  • Create ad hoc CD-ROM — Customers can create and distribute CD-ROMs which include specific reports or images. Previously as a separate services offering, this enriches the base OnDemand product to provide delivery of reports and/or check images on CD-ROM to departments or customers. The incorporated viewer provides the capability to view the CD contents from any workstation.
  • Export applications through a new capability added to export application definitions in addition to folder definitions, application groups and end user definitions. Export just an individual application instead of all applications associated with an application group.
  • Determine the load ID of a retrieved file via the Windows™ client making it easier to unload or retrieve a specific document.
  • View the appropriate properties of an open document via a File, Properties pull down.
  • Print reports exceeding 99 pages in length with the Windows Client.
  • Eliminate error messages associated with incomplete searches with the addition of a required field indicator to the Windows Client. This specifies the required search fields.
  • Retrieve both the document and the annotations from the command line interface to enhance the amount of information available.
  • Display a larger quantity of useful information by autosizing the hitlist based upon the size of the index value. This additional information can speed the selection process.

In addition, enhancements have also been delivered to DB2 Content Manager OnDemand for z/OS®, V7.1.

  • Bundle-within-bundle support added to the DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Distribution Facility. This expands the present capability to gather various reports and sections of reports to create a bundle which can be printed, e-mailed, or distributed.
  • OS/390® Indexer support of Xerox Dynamic Job Description Entry (DJDE). Customers printing to Xerox printers using line data with DJDEs can store line data with DJDEs in DB2 Content Manager OnDemand. This data can also be printed to a Xerox printer, expanding the type of print data that DB2 Content Manager OnDemand can manage.
  • DB2 Content Manager OnDemand for z/OS, V2.1 to V7.1 migration utility now supports grouping of reports, easing the migration effort. Performance and manageability is improved during the migration process.
  • OS/390 Indexer messages are now stored in a common repository, consolidating where messages are stored.
  • DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Storage Management documentation has been improved, providing additional knowledge to better understand the different operational aspects of managing objects. This updated documentation should provide added details and understanding leading to better design.
  • EAR and WAR file documentation and validation now provided for WebSphere® Application Server set up.
  • Internal validation of corequisites and prerequisites is improved to aid in system administration.

Explanation of terms

DB2 Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms V8.3 program has two charge units: per server and per concurrent user.

DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Server

Your license to DB2 Content Manager OnDemand (the Program) entitles you to install one instance of DB2 Content Manager OnDemand. If you wish to install additional program server instances on the same or on additional physical servers or nodes, you must acquire additional licenses.

Each DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Library Server is defined as one instance, and includes the right to install one DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Object Server, each installed on the same or on a separate physical server or node. Each additional DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Object Server installed, after the first Object Server per Library Server, is defined as one instance.

The program server components included in DB2 Content Manager OnDemand are:

  • DB2 Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms Library Server
  • DB2 Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms Object Server

The program server components included in DB2 Content Manager OnDemand, but are priced separately are:

  • DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Report Distribution
  • DB2 Content Manager OnDemand PDF Indexer

Concurrent user

You must acquire an authorization for each concurrent user. The number of concurrent users is defined as the peak number of users connected to the program servers at one time. Each user connection is considered to be active, and therefore concurrent, for 30 minutes after any transaction against the server.

If the user invokes any transaction activity within a 30-minute interval, they will continue to be considered an active concurrent user. If the connected user remains inactive for a period of greater than 30 minutes, they will no longer be considered an active concurrent user, until they reestablish an active connection by invoking a transaction against the server.

The number of actual concurrent users may not exceed the number authorized by the quantity of concurrent user licenses you have purchased. Each Content Manager OnDemand concurrent user license authorizes one individual user to connect to one Content Manager OnDemand program server across any of the following platforms: Linux, Windows, iSeries™, AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, OS/390®, and z/OS.

The definition of a concurrent user includes all users, either within or outside your enterprise, who establish any connection to any Content Manager OnDemand program server. These connections may be either direct or through a surrogate or application server (using common techniques such as end user mapping or connection pooling).

Employees, clients, partners, intranet, and Internet users who make a connection via either an application or client are all counted as concurrent users. For example, if you have 300 users, and all of these users will interact with the program server once every 10 minutes, then you require 300 concurrent user licenses. Each user is concurrent because they have made a transaction within the 30-minute window.

In another example, if you have 300 users, and all of these users will interact with the program server once every hour, with user transactions evenly balanced over the hour, it is expected you would require 150 concurrent user licenses. Since each user is making only one transaction during the hour period, only half the users would have made a transaction within the 30-minute window and would be inactive at other times.

If the user access pattern cannot be predicted at time of initial purchase, then the best estimate of users and activity levels should be calculated. After implementation, actual usage patterns should be monitored to validate licensing requirements versus authorizations, so that you can true-up the license periodically.

To support this activity validation, IBM provides monitoring tools for individual user connectivity to the servers in the program server logs. If connections are made via an application server or Web server, where individuals are not directly logged onto the servers, you should implement a monitoring tool such as WebSphere Site Analyzer to track the number of concurrent users who are accessing the servers via your front-end application.

DB2 Content Manager OnDemand PDF Indexer

The DB2 Content Manager OnDemand PDF Indexer feature (the PDF Indexer feature) is an optional priced feature of DB2 Content Manager OnDemand. The PDF Indexer feature is included on the program media. You are not authorized to use the PDF Indexer feature unless you first purchase a separate license for this PDF Indexer feature.

Your license to the program feature allows you to install and use the PDF Indexer feature to support definition and capture of PDF data streams on one DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Library Server. If you wish to capture PDF data streams on additional DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Library Servers, you must acquire additional PDF Indexer feature licenses.

DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Report Distribution

The DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Report Distribution feature (the Report Distribution feature) is an optional priced feature of DB2 Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms. The Report Distribution feature is included on the program media. You are not authorized to use the Report Distribution feature unless you first purchase a separate license for this feature.

Your license to the Report Distribution feature authorizes you to interact with one DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Library program server component. If you wish to interact with additional DB2 OnDemand Library program servers, you must acquire additional Report Distribution feature licenses.

Limited Use DB2 UDB Components

The program includes portions of DB2 UDB. You are authorized to install and use these components only in association with your licensed use of the program for the storage and management of data used or generated by the program, and not for other purposes. DB2 UDB components are to be used only by the internal components of the program.
