Description

New and enhanced ease-of-use features include:

  • Launch pad provides easy access to release notes, installation instructions, and other features to help you install and use DB2 Everyplace.
  • Improved installation and configuration is now a two-step process. You can automatically change your setup with the new configuration wizard.

New and enhanced sync server and sync client features include:

  • For integration, the custom logic feature allows for custom operations to be performed at points in the synchronization process. Custom logic can execute before, during, and after the initial handling of input data from the users in any table subscriptions and before, during, and after the replication of data between the mirror and source tables.
  • The DB2 Everyplace Sync Client enables you to collect information about synchronization sessions, including statistics, status, and trace data, and then upload it to the server through a regular upload subscription.
  • DB2 Everyplace V8.2 supports Cloudscape as a target database and is implemented with a pure Java™ synchronization client. Cloudscape is also supported as a data source enabling DB2 Everyplace database or Cloudscape database clients to synchronize data with a Cloudscape server.
  • Clients can synchronize with sync server while replication between mirror and source databases are being performed.

New and enhanced database features include:

  • Additional support for Alter Table statement. You can add new columns or alter the length of a VARCHAR column to an existing table definition.
  • With DB2 Everyplace V8.2, you can have multiple connections to the same database with the same JVM process. Applications can integrate data synchronization logic.
  • Java developers can use Eclipse plug-ins to look up, design, and query the DB2 Everyplace database without leaving the comfort of their favorite IDE.
  • For problem analysis, the Data Integrity Check Tool allows for more detailed CLI tracing by executing the DB2CHECK command in the CLP application. The tool generates a detailed report and checks for corrupted data.
  • DB2 Everyplace supports industry-standard tools, and open APIs make it easy to develop applications. You can take advantage of Java or C/C++ code using either WebSphere® Studio Device Developer, Metrowerks Code Warrior, Microsoft.NET development, or other Java development tools. You can download the latest application development tools from the DB2 Everyplace Web site at

In addition to the new features, DB2 Everyplace V8.2 will support the new Nokia 9500 devices announced this year as soon as the devices become generally available.

Statement of direction

IBM Cloudscape

IBM is making a major contribution to the open source database community by donating the source code for Cloudscape to the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). The ASF has accepted the technology into its incubator project. At Apache, the source code will be named Apache Derby. Later this year, IBM plans to release a commercial version of Cloudscape to customers and IBM Business Partners. The offering is based on the same technology as the Apache code and updated as needed based on feedback from the development community.

Cloudscape, based on Apache Derby, is a Java-based, production-quality, fully-transactional relational database with a 2 MB footprint that is fully embeddable and requires zero database administration support. The software is ideal for building and deploying applications and workloads that do not require an enterprise-class database system. Written in pure Java, it is accessed via Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) and can be embedded in an application, or a network server can be used to service multiple clients. Derby is targeted for solutions that do not require an enterprise database, such as small Web sites, point-of-sales systems, local registries and repositories, and small departmental applications.

Cloudscape has rapidly gained a reputation for ease of use and reliability among IBM's development community. Today the software is embedded into more than 70 offerings within the IBM software portfolio of offerings and is a key part of the IBM Workplace offerings: WebSphere Portal and WebSphere Application Server.

The source code will be available soon on

You can preview the technology on developerWorks™ now at

General availability is planned for September 2004.

All statements regarding IBM's plans, directions, and intent are subject to change or withdrawal without notice.

DB2 Everyplace Express V8.2 license terms

This product is licensed for installation on a single server. You must acquire a separate user license for each named user of the product as described below.

Use-based charges — Named users

Named users: A named user is a person, application, or device entitled to establish one or more connections to any authorized server installation of a DB2 Everyplace Express Edition product in the customer's enterprise, either directly or through a multiplexing program or application server. You must acquire a separate user license for each named user of the product. DB2 Everyplace User entitlements are not transferable between products.

Resource restriction: The following restrictions apply to the program:

  • Use of this program is restricted to servers with up to two processors per server.
  • Connections made to this product through the intranet (connections from within your enterprise) or the Internet (connections outside your enterprise) must be counted as DB2 Everyplace users.

Failover licensing — Users: In idle standby or active standby, you must acquire correct number of server installs and the correct number of users:

  • In idle standby, you must license the program for one server install. No additional user entitlements need to be acquired in the idle standby server. An idle standby server has a DB2 Everyplace Sync Server database installed on it, but DB2 Everyplace Sync Server is not processing any end-user transactions or synchronizations query workloads. The DB2 Everyplace Sync Server is considered "idle" if it is used exclusively for administrative actions that assist in failover scenarios.

  • In active standby, you must license the program in the active standby server for one server install and the number of users accessing the server before the failover. During the failover, the user licenses on the failed server are transferred to the active standby. For example, if the active server is licensed for 50 users and the standby server is licensed for 80 users, after failover, the active standby server is licensed for 130 users.

An active standby server has an independent, operational DB2 Everyplace Sync Server that services user transactions and synchronizations. Because the active standby machine is used for user transactions and synchronization before or after a failure, it must be fully licensed. In active standby, you must license the program for the number of processors on the active standby server. For example, if the standby machine has four processors then you must obtain four processor entitlements.

Usage restriction — Development use: If a program is acquired through DB2 Personal Developer's Edition, then this program is licensed for installation and use by an individual user on a single machine within your enterprise. You may use the program only for the purposes of evaluating, demonstrating, testing, and developing application programs.

If a program is acquired through DB2 Universal Developer's Edition (UDE), it can be installed on a shared server for use by all users with valid DB2 UDE licenses. You may use the program only for the purposes of evaluating, demonstrating, testing, and developing application programs.

Usage restriction — Limited platform support: If the program is acquired under the terms of an IBM offering for limited platform support (that is, the program is acquired for use on a single platform or less than all available platforms), then that program is licensed only for installation and use on the specific platforms or operating systems as designated by the offering terms and conditions.

Program components: The program contains components that are provided to support your authorized use of the program on server machines within your enterprise. If you want to perform multiple installations or distribution of these components, you must contact IBM or your software reseller to obtain the appropriate licenses. The following are the exceptions:

The program may be accompanied by an embedded version of WebSphere Application Server — Express ("embedded Application Server — Express"). Your use of the embedded Application Server — Express components is limited to use in support of your licensed use of the program. The embedded Application Server — Express components may not be used for any other purpose.

The following paragraphs titled "Java Connector Architecture," "Disabling device," "Multiple component versions," "Unlimited copy component," and "Source code" apply to your use of the embedded Application Server — Express components, and the term Program in these paragraphs shall mean the embedded Application Server — Express components.

  • Java Connector Architecture: The program includes Java Connector Architecture (JCA). Your use of the JCA technology is limited to use in conjunction with the Database Connection Pooling function of the program only. The JCA may not be used for any other purpose.
  • Disabling device: The program may include a disabling device that will prevent certain features from being used. You will not tamper with such disabling device or otherwise change the program.
  • Multiple component versions: The media for the program may include multiple versions of the same program component, such as versions designed for different operating systems and versions translated into different languages. Each PoE for the program authorizes you to use a single version of a program component. You are not authorized to use multiple versions of the same program component under the same PoE, even if multiple versions of a component are included on the media for the program.
  • Unlimited copy component: You are authorized to install and use an unlimited number of copies of the admin scripting program component on any of your machines to support your authorized use of the other components of the program.
  • Source code: Some of the components of the program may be provided in source code form. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this Agreement, support is only provided for the unmodified, binary code versions of these components included in the program packaging, and not for the source code for these components or for any modifications of such components you may create.

DB2 Components: The program includes portions of DB2 UDB Express. You are authorized to install and use these components only in association with your licensed use of the DB2 Everyplace Sync Server component of the program for the storage and management of data used or generated by DB2 Everyplace Sync Server, and not for other data management purposes. For example, this license does not permit inbound connections to the DB2 components from other applications for queries or report generation. You are authorized to install and use these components only with and on the same machine as the DB2 Everyplace Sync Server component of the program.

The following subset of excluded components was obtained from Eclipse.org: Help System 2.1.3, Tomcat 4.0.6, Lucene 1.2, and XML4J 4.0.13 (herein collectively referred to as "Eclipse Code"). Notices and important information, including instructions for obtaining source code, for the Eclipse Code may be found in associated about.html files (About Files) located in a directory for the Eclipse Code.

THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPLY TO Help System 2.1.3, including its components, WHICH ARE ACTUAL PROJECTS MAINTAINED BY ECLIPSE.ORG ITSELF (COLLECTIVELY ECLIPSE PROJECTS).

THE ECLIPSE PROJECTS WERE LICENSED BY IBM FROM ECLIPSE.ORG UNDER THE TERMS OF THE COMMON PUBLIC LICENSE (CPL). THE CONTRIBUTORS (AS DEFINED IN THE CPL) OF SUCH ECLIPSE PROJECTS HAVE PROVIDED THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS AS IS WITHOUT WARRANTY OR CONDITION OF ANY KIND EITHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF TITLE, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT WILL THE CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY LOST PROFITS, LOST SAVINGS, LOST REVENUE, LOST DATA, OR FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, EVEN IF IBM OR THE CONTRIBUTORS HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH LOSSES OR DAMAGES. ANY PROVISIONS IN THE IBM PROGRAM LICENSE AGREEMENT OR OTHER END USER LICENSE THAT RELATE TO THE ECLIPSE PROJECTS WHICH DIFFER FROM THE CPL ARE OFFERED BY IBM ALONE AND NOT BY ANY OTHER PARTY INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY CONTRIBUTOR.

Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the About Files, the following licenses apply to your use of the Eclipse Code and Eclipse Project.

Your use of the object code for any Eclipse Code is governed by the terms of this end user license agreement unless otherwise set forth above, subject to the excluded components provisions.

DB2 Everyplace Enterprise Edition V8.2 license terms

The program includes one processor entitlement.

Use-based charges — Resources: Charges for this program are based on the processors that are attached or available to the DB2 Server on which it is licensed. The total number of processors attached or available may not exceed the number authorized by the applicable PoE or authorized by each product authorization acquired under Passport Advantage. If the total number exceeds the quantity in your PoE or exceeds your product authorizations acquired under Passport Advantage, you must notify IBM or its reseller as stated in the IPLA.

Usage restriction — Development use: If a program is acquired through DB2 Personal Developer's Edition, then this program is licensed for installation and use by an individual user on a single machine within your enterprise. You may use the program only for the purposes of evaluating, demonstrating, testing, and developing application programs.

If a program is acquired through DB2 Universal Developer's Edition, it can be installed on a shared server for use by all users with valid DB2 UDE licenses. You may only use the program for the purposes of evaluating, demonstrating, testing, and developing application programs.

High availability/Failover licensing: In idle standby or active standby, you must acquire correct number of processors:

  • An idle standby server has a DB2 database installed on it, but DB2 is not processing any end-user transactions or query workloads. The DB2 server is considered "idle" if it is used exclusively for administrative actions that assist in failover scenarios such as having a database in roll-forward pending state to support log shipping, or in making a flash copy of a DB2 database and then performing a database backup of this copy on another server. In idle standby, you must license the program for one processor.
  • An active standby server has an independent, operational DB2 databases that services user transactions and queries. Because the active standby machine is used for user transactions and queries before or after a failure, it must be fully licensed. In active standby, you must license the program for the number of processors on the active standby server. For example, if the standby machine has four processors, then you must obtain four processor entitlements.

Program components: The program contains components that are provided to support your authorized use of the program on server machines within your enterprise. If you want to perform multiple installations or distribution of these components, you must contact IBM or your software reseller to obtain the appropriate licenses. The following are the exceptions:

  • DB2 Everyplace Clients. Multiple DB2 Everyplace Clients are provided with this program. You may make copies of these clients and documentation in support of your authorized use of the program within your enterprise.
  • The program may be accompanied by an embedded version of WebSphere Application Server ("embedded Application Server"). Your use of the embedded Application Server components is limited to use in support of your licensed use of the program. The embedded Application Server components may not be used for any other purpose.

The following paragraphs titled "Java Connector Architecture," "Disabling device," "Multiple component versions," "Unlimited copy component," and "Source code" apply to your use of the embedded Application Server — Express components, and the term "program" in these paragraphs shall mean the embedded Application Server — Express components.

Each PoE the program authorizes you to use a single version of a program component.

DB2 components: The program includes portions of DB2 UDB, including, but not limited to, a DB2 Connect® component. Further, use of the DB2 Connect component is limited to five registered users per server, allowing connectivity, only in support of the storage and management of data used or generated by DB2 ESS, to DB2 for z/OS and OS/390®, DB2 Server for VSE and VM, and DB2 for iSeries. If additional users need to connect to any of the above mentioned database servers, a separate DB2 Connect program must be acquired. You are authorized to install and use these DB2 components only with and on the same machine as the DB2 Everyplace Sync Server component of the program.

The following subset of Excluded Components was obtained from Eclipse.org: Help System 2.1.3, Tomcat 4.0.6, Lucene 1.2, and XML4J 4.0.13 (herein collectively referred to as "Eclipse Code"). IBM Electronic Services

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support on the IBM eServer®. You should benefit from greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services comprises two separate but complementary elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Service Agent™.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. By using the news page, you gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent is no-additional charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic customer-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that maintains higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
