Description

Availability enhancements

DB2 Connect V8.2 delivers several new features that improve the ability to deploy continuously available applications. Previous versions of DB2 Connect offered the ability to exploit IBM eServer zSeries availability features such as SYSPLEX and DB2 for z/OS datasharing support to provide uninterrupted access to data for client-server and Web applications. V8.2 provides additional facilities to ensure continuous availability of the DB2 Connect communication servers through a feature called "automatic client reroute."

Automatic client reroute

The automatic client reroute feature allows client applications to recover from a loss of communication with the DB2 Connect server so that they can continue to work with minimal interruption. After a loss of communication, the client application attempts to reconnect to the DB2 Connect server. If this fails, the client is then rerouted to a different DB2 Connect server. You can specify an alternate location through the command line processor (CLP) by invoking an application programming interface (API), or when adding a database using the Control Center or the advanced view of the Configuration Assistant.

Utility for demigrating database directories from V8.2 to V8.1

As part of the automatic client reroute feature, the format of database directory files has been changed. The updating of the database directory files is handled automatically when migrating from V8.1 to V8.2. However, to fall back from V8.2 to V8.1, you must use the db2demigdbd utility to demigrate your database directory files. This utility converts the database directory files from the V8.2 format to the V8.1 format.

Manageability enhancements

Health Center enhancements

Health Center provides administrators with the ability to perform exception-based monitoring of the health of the DB2 Connect servers. DB2 Connect administrators can identify health indicators that they wish to monitor and set threshold values for these parameters. When these threshold values are reached, Health Center can notify administrators or execute actions that the administrator has predefined.

The Health Center for DB2 Connect V8.2 has a number of new features:

Health Indicator Configuration launchpad

Provides easy access to various levels of health indicator settings.

Recommendation advisor

Makes recommendations on how to resolve certain health alerts and guides you through implementing those recommendations, if selected.

Troubleshoot Health Alert Notification wizard

Helps you to troubleshoot various problems related to health alert notification, which ensures that notifications are received properly by the correct contacts.

Control Center enhancements for DB2 for z/OS and OS/390 administrators

Support for DB2 for z/OS V8. Control Center provided with the DB2 Connect product continues to provide an easy-to-use graphical administration tool for managing DB2 for OS/390 and z/OS V6.1 and V7.1 databases. New to DB2 Connect V8.2 Control Center is extended support for new features offered by the DB2 for z/OS V8.1.

The following enhanced commands are now supported by the Control Center when administering DB2 for z/OS V8 databases. These enhancements allow changes to affected database objects with minimized impact on availability:

  • Create Table
  • Alter Table
  • Create Index
  • Alter Index

Extended support of DB2 commands

The following DSN subcommands can now be issued against DB2 for z/OS and OS/390 from the Control Center:

  • Bind Package
  • Bind Plan
  • Free Package
  • Free Plan
  • Rebind Package
  • Rebind Plan
  • Rebind Trigger Package

Create Object Maintenance Policy wizard

The new Create Object Maintenance Policy wizard guides you through a series of steps to collect the information necessary for creating the maintenance policy and for generating the JCL job required to perform object maintenance on DB2 for z/OS and OS/390 subsystems.

Secondary authorization ID

Control Center now supports the SET CURRENT SQLID command when administering DB2 for z/OS and OS/390 subsystems. This allows for flexibility in granting access to members of a group, without the complications associated with changes to individual users' profiles.

Usability enhancements

Integration into Microsoft Visual Studio .NET

DB2 Connect V8.1.2 was the first release that delivered "DB2 Add-ins for Visual Studio .NET." These add-ins provide deep integration of DB2 into the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET IDE and greatly simplify the task of building DB2 applications using .NET technologies. DB2 Connect V8.2 enhances both the function and ease of programming that the DB2 add-ins deliver to Visual Studio .NET developers. In addition, the ease of DB2 .NET programming has been extended to the users of DB2 for IBM eServer iSeries databases.

Control Center

The Control Center supplied with DB2 Connect is a graphical tool for DB2 family database administration and application development. Control Center supports numerous tasks for administering DB2 for z/OS and DB2 for iSeries databases in addition to DB2 databases on Linux, Windows, and UNIX servers. The Control Center has been simplified and streamlined through two new features:

  1. A set of views that tailor the object tree pane to the needs of the user
  2. An enhanced object details pane that provides "object-at-a-glance" browsing and simplified navigation

A set of predefined views is available for the Control Center object tree pane (that is, the left-hand side of the Control Center window). These views have been introduced to simplify the user interface for novice users while still allowing expert users access to the rich set of features they need. The basic view provides core DB2 functionality, the advanced view displays all objects and actions, and the custom view provides users with the ability to customize the left-hand object tree and the object actions. The object details pane (that is, the lower right-hand side of the Control Center window) provides a fresh, new look at key objects shown in the Control Center. At one glance the user can see key status information, object details, and links to common tasks through hypertext links. This "object-at-a-glance" approach saves the user from navigating through pop-up menus and provides a quick overview of the structure and state information associated with the selected object in the object tree.

Command Editor

In Version 8.2 the Command Center is replaced by the Command Editor. The Command Editor includes all the function previously available with the Command Center, but provides these functions in a simplified interface which can be quickly accessed within the same window as the Control Center. The Command Editor helps simplify the tasks of generating, editing, executing, and manipulating SQL statements and DB2 commands, and of optimizing SQL statements through graphical representations of access plans.

Replication

DB2 Connect V8.2 replication includes enhanced create subscription set functionality with improved error checking for source-target mappings, icons for showing validated and invalid objects, and status line messages to explain missing information. This new functionality has significantly reduced the time to troubleshoot problems during create time (from over 20 minutes previously to less than one minute now). The Replication Center can determine if the user has a gateway configuration and only ask for gateway-related information when appropriate. This has simplified setup and running of commands for users who have basic configurations.

Serviceability enhancements

New utility to retrieve statistics from a running DB2 Connect instance or a DB2 Connect federated database (similar to "onstat" for Informix™)

db2pd is a new utility that can be used to retrieve statistics from a running DB2 Connect instance or a DB2 Connect federated database. It is similar to the onstat utility for Informix.

The tool can provide a wide range of information useful for troubleshooting and problem determination, performance improvements, and application development design. Especially useful for DB2 Connect administrators is the SYSPLEX option. When the "db2pd -sysplex" command is used with DB2 Connect configured for the "Connection Concentrator" function, the output is a list of DB2 for z/OS subsystems with which DB2 Connect is working. This list is complete with relative priorities (assigned by the z/OS Workload Manager) that DB2 Connect uses to balance the workload across the DB2 datasharing group.

db2diag.log format message enhancements

The db2diag.log format has been improved in a number of ways for V8.2. The log file is now easier to read manually and easier to parse in software.

Diagnostic log analysis tool for filtering and formatting db2diag.log

A new tool for filtering and formatting db2diag.log files (db2diag) is now available. You can use this tool to filter diagnostic log files, which use a new message format for V8.2.

This command line tool has a wide range of options that you can use to modify the output to suit your needs. Among other options, you can indicate which fields to display, use a "grep"-like filter to reduce the number of records, and have the empty fields omitted.

Trace facility improved

The DB2 Connect trace facilities and the db2trc command have been improved for V8.2. The layout of the formatted trace record has been modified to reflect the new, wider range of trace types.

Application development enhancements

Enhanced integration with Microsoft .NET, J2EE/WebSphere Studios, and Web services improves developer productivity

DB2 Connect V8.2 is a major release for application developers with significant new features, better support for open standard APIs, Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), and Web Services, and seamless integration with the key development environments for both Java™ and Microsoft .NET platforms.

Microsoft .NET enhancements

DB2 Connect provided support for building applications for DB2 family databases since V8.1.2. This support is provided by two key features:

  1. Native DB2 .NET Data Provider that allows .NET application developers to use ADO.NET API or works with DB2 family databases
  2. A set of DB2 add-ins for Visual Studio .NET that greatly enhances .NET programmer productivity

Both the DB2 .NET Data Provider and the DB2 add-ins for Visual Studio .NET received significant enhancements in DB2 Connect V8.2.

The new DB2 .NET Data Provider delivers a much higher level of performance and provides .NET programmers with access to DB2 through ADO.NET API without a need for bridging technologies or third-party drivers. Developed in close cooperation with Microsoft, this native DB2 .NET Data Provider fully implements Microsoft .NET specification and provides for deep exploitation of all DB2 features. Also new in V8.2 is support for DB2 UDB for iSeries servers and enhanced support for DB2 for OS/390 and z/OS and DB2 UDB for VSE and VM servers.

DB2 add-ins for Visual Studio .NET greatly simplify the task of building .NET applications for DB2 family servers, without leaving the comfort of the Visual Studio. These add-ins allow building an entire application within the Visual Studio .NET IDE including client portion, the mid-tier, and more importantly, DB2 server objects such as stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, and indexes. For example, a .NET application developer can build an application form and a set of DB2 for z/OS or DB2 for iSeries stored procedures all without leaving the comfort of the Visual Studio .NET environment. In addition to numerous new wizards, dialogs, and other enhancements, V8.2 delivers support for building DB2 UDB for iSeries database objects (stored procedures, functions, triggers, indexes, tables, and views) as well as the ability to turn stored procedures and SQL statements into standard Web Services. These Web Services can be deployed as Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) Web Services or can be hosted by the DB2 Embedded Application Server that is provided with DB2 Connect at no extra charge.

J2EE enhancements

There are numerous improvements to the DB2 Universal JDBC Driver for V8.2, including distributed transaction or JTA support, connection pooling support, and JDBC 3.0 compliance. Other new features increase the flexibility of iterator use in SQLJ and enhance interactivity with mainframe and DB2 for iSeries databases. The JTA support in the Type 4 connectivity of the Universal JDBC driver enables DB2 JDBC applications to participate in two-phase commit transactions that conform to the XA-open specification, which along with connection pooling is required by many mission-critical enterprise applications. The Universal driver also implements all the new JDBC 3.0 features required to be JDBC 3.0/J2EE 1.4 compliant. For SQLJ developers, multiple instances of an iterator can be open concurrently in a single SQLJ application. One application for this ability is to open several instances of an iterator that uses host expressions. Each instance can use a different set of host expression values. You can perform one operation on a table using one iterator while you perform a different operation on the same table using another iterator. JDK 1.4 runtime as well as the development kit is supported for all DB2 platforms (except for AIX® 4.3.x and 64-bit Linux on Intel™) in addition to JDK 1.3.1.

Development Center

The Development Center support for DB2 Universal Database® for z/OS, V8.0 enables you to build Java-stored procedures up to 10 MB in size. A new terminate feature in the debugger enables you to quickly terminate the debugger at any time without waiting for the current debugging session to reach the end of the stored procedure.

Web Services

Service Oriented Architectures (Web Services) continues to be our focus as the new application development paradigm. V8.2 has enhanced Web service support as a provider. SOAP engine transparency is now provided, allowing more choices of SOAP engines to be plugged into the run time. With the new dynamic query capability, the Web service client can determine at invocation which query should be executed, in addition to the fixed transactions and queries in DADXes. A tracing component has also been added to make it easier to diagnose errors in the provider. Another important feature is the support for Web service inspection language (WSIL) so that users can easily explore the Web Services that are offered in the DB2 Web Services provider.

DB2 Run-Time Client Lite (DB2 RTCL)

DB2 RTCL is a new installable component that makes it much easier to provide access to DB2 servers from Windows-based applications. The DB2 RTCL is designed to be redistributable by independent software vendors (ISVs) and to be used for application distribution in mass deployment scenarios typical of large enterprises. Similar to the DB2 Run-Time Client component, the new DB2 RTCL provides application interfaces (ADO.NET, DB2 CLI, ODBC, OLE DB, and JDBC) and the network libraries that are required for applications to run. The main distinguishing features of the DB2 RTCL are:

  • A significantly smaller disk footprint
  • Shipment as a single executable, making it easy to redistribute and deploy
  • Availability of Windows Installer Merge Modules (.msm file) that simplify the integration of the DB2 RTCL code within a larger application
  • Terms and conditions pertaining to the redistribution of the DB2 RTCL by ISVs and in-house programmers

Type 4 JDBC driver

A redistributable Type 4 JDBC driver is available for download. It packages the Type 4 connectivity of the DB2 Universal Driver. The pure-Java implementation is a JDBC 3.0 compliant driver with a footprint of less than 2 MB and comes with terms and conditions pertaining to the redistribution of the DB2 RTCL by ISVs and in-house programmers.

Security enhancements

System security enhancements for Windows improve usability

  • Accepting additional special characters in user IDs and security mechanism group names (and consequently in authorization-names and authorization-IDs) including &, —, and blank.
  • Accepting security mechanism group names that are longer than eight characters.
  • Allowing two-part names on CONNECT and ATTACH that contain a Windows domain name and the user ID to avoid the network traffic associated with looking up the user name in the trusted domain forest.
  • Enhanced support for Active Directory domains. For example, implicit trusts between domains, domain local groups, and nested global groups are supported.

Support for Windows Local System account (LSA)

Support for Windows LSA is provided for various DB2 Connect services, as well as for applications that access them. The DB2 Connect server installation process allows DB2 Connect services to run under SYSTEM LSA as an alternative to running under a dedicated user account. You can also perform the DB2 Connect server installation itself from a process that is running under the context of the LSA.

This feature makes it easier to deploy DB2 Connect on Windows servers by avoiding, where appropriate, the complexities associated with handling of user IDs and passwords. Another enhancement is the ability for DB2 applications that are running in the context of the LSA to access and use the local DB2 Connect server.

Prevention of access to DB2 Connect system files on Windows-based platforms

The new DB2_EXTSECURITY registry variable prevents unauthorized access to DB2 Connect by locking DB2 Connect system files. By default, this registry variable is set to ON.

Access token on Windows provides users' group information

An access token is an object that describes the security context of a process or thread. The information in the token includes the identity and privileges of the user account associated with the process or thread. The access token contains information such as all the groups to which the user belongs including local groups and various domain groups (global groups, domain local groups, and universal groups).

The access token can also be acquired based on credentials cached by the operating system. In this case, the access token of the last logon can be referenced when the machine cannot contact the domain controller.

Custom security plug-ins for authentication and group management

You can now create your own authentication and group management mechanisms in the form of loadable plug-ins that DB2 Connect will load and access to perform user authentication. If you want to use the Kerberos authentication method for a non-Windows platform client, you will need to ensure that Kerberos is configured on that system and then update the required database manager configuration parameters.

The ability to create custom security plug-ins presents you with alternatives to the authentication methods currently provided by DB2 Connect. You can write your own plug-ins, and then compile and install them. Installation is simple: the plug-ins must be copied to the correct directories and then specific database manager configuration parameters must be updated.

Kerberos authentication support for the UNIX platforms

Kerberos is a third-party network authentication protocol that employs a system of shared secret keys to securely authenticate a user in an insecure network environment without flowing a text user ID or password. Using Kerberos provides the advantages of single sign-on access to resources, such as a DB2 for z/OS server, and the centralization of user (principal) administration. Kerberos authentication support is extended to DB2 Connect for AIX, and for Solaris Operating Environment, in addition to existing support for Windows operating systems that support Active Directory.

This support is provided as a security plug-in.

Encryption of user data using two new authentication types

To improve the security of user data, there are two new authentication types that allow you to manage the encryption of user data. One new authentication type, SQL_AUTHENTICATION_DATAENC, requires connections to use the data encryption. The other new authentication type, SQL_AUTHENTICATION_DATAENC_CMP, allows for a compatibility mode with downlevel products that do not support the new authentication type. For such products, the use of this authentication type allows a connection using SERVER_ENCRYPT where the encryption of user data is not required. Any product that supports SQL_AUTHENTICATION_DATAENC will be forced to use it.

DB2 Mobility on Demand Feature

DB2 Connect V8.2 customers can easily extend the reach of their DB2 for OS/390 and z/OS and DB2 for iSeries solutions to include mobile devices such as mobile phones, PDAs, and other pervasive devices. This capability is delivered via DB2 Mobility on Demand Feature and is included with server-based editions of DB2 Connect product (Enterprise Edition, Application Server Edition, and Unlimited Edition). DB2 Mobility on Demand capability includes the high-performance, robust DB2 Everyplace™ database as well as a powerful synchronization solution for use with DB2 Connect connected mainframe and iSeries data sources. This solution allows users of PDAs and mobile phones to conduct business transactions in environments where physical connectivity to the database server is not available or is not financially viable and have these transactions synchronized with the enterprise data store when connection with the database server is available (for example, the device is in a sync cradle or within wireless network range). DB2 Connect Mobility on Demand Feature allows deployment of an unlimited number of mobile devices, provided these devices conduct data synchronization through a properly licensed DB2 Connect server.

Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act

DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition is capable as of October 29, 2004, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.

Product positioning

DB2 Connect Personal Edition

DB2 Connect Personal Edition provides the application programming interface (API) drivers and connectivity infrastructure to enable direct connectivity from Windows and Linux desktop applications to mainframe and iSeries database servers. This product is specifically designed and is licensed for enabling two-tier client-server applications running on individual workstations and as such is not appropriate for use on servers.

Unlike server-based products (DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition, Application Server Edition, and Unlimited Edition), DB2 Connect Personal Edition does not provide the advanced functions such as Mobility on Demand, federated database support, server-based monitoring or connection concentrator, and associated load-balancing and fail-over support.

DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition

DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition is a combination of DB2 Connect server and DB2 client software designed to address the needs of organizations that require robust connectivity from a variety of desktop systems to mainframe and iSeries database servers. DB2 client software is deployed on desktop systems and provides API drivers that connect client-server applications running on these desktop systems to a DB2 Connect server. Designed to provide connectivity for client-server applications in large scale demanding environments, DB2 Connect server provides connection pooling and connection concentrator functions to maximize application availability while minimizing mainframe resource usage. DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition licensing terms are geared towards addressing the needs of two-tier client-server applications. License charges for the DB2 Connect Enterprise Server Edition product are based on the number of users of the product. Two types of licensing users are provided: concurrent users and registered users.

Because charges for the DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition are based on the number of users (registered or concurrent) and because determining the number of concurrent users in mobile and Web-based applications is very difficult or even impossible, DB2 Connect Application Server Edition and DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition are preferred licensing options for such environments.

DB2 Connect Application Server Edition

DB2 Connect Application Server Edition is identical to the DB2 Connect Enterprise Server in its technology. Just like the DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition, it is designed for large scale demanding environments. However, its licensing terms and conditions are meant to address specific needs of multitier client-server applications as well as applications that utilize Web technologies. DB2 Connect Application Server Edition license charges are based on the size or the number of processors available to the application servers where the application is running. License charges are not affected by the number of users of the application, the size of the DB2 Connect server itself, or the size of the mainframe database server.

For example, an application that runs on three two-CPU application servers (like WebSphere Application Server) requires six-CPU license (3*2=6 CPUs) for the DB2 Connect Application Server Edition, regardless of how many CPUs on which DB2 Connect are run.

DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition

DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition is ideal for organizations with extensive usage of DB2 Connect, especially where multiple applications are involved. This product provides program code of the DB2 Connect Personal Edition as well as program code identical to the DB2 Connect Application Server Edition for unlimited deployment throughout an organization. DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition license fees are based on the size of the DB2 for OS/390 and z/OS database server (measured in MSUs) and are not affected by either the number of processors available to the DB2 Connect server(s) or the number of processors available to application servers where the application is running. This makes DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition an ideal choice for organizations where multiple applications are utilizing DB2 Connect or organizations with a mix of two-tier, multitier client-server, Web-based applications. This makes DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition an ideal choice for organizations where multiple applications are utilizing DB2 Connect or organizations with a mix of two-tier, multitier client-server, Web-based, and mobile applications.

  • DB2 Server for VM/VSE V7, and later.

For required maintenance, refer to

Not all functions are supported with every server. For example:

  • Remote debugging of Java-stored procedures is not supported.
  • Control Center does not support some functions when administering DB2 for OS/390 V6.1 servers.

Limitations: For known limitations, refer to the Part 1 "Known limitations, problems and workarounds" section of the DB2 UDB V8.2 Release Notes at

Planning information

Customers that plan to deploy DB2 Connect V8.2 products should take the following into consideration:

  • The proper DB2 Connect product should be selected for the application. Consult the Product positioning and Licensing sections for information on choosing the proper DB2 Connect edition.
  • When upgrading a DB2 Connect installation from a previous version, DB2 Connect servers must be upgraded to V8.1 before any client workstations are upgraded.
  • DB2 Connect servers or DB2 Connect Personal Edition workstations using SNA for connecting to zSeries or iSeries servers must establish TCP/IP connectivity to these servers as SNA connectivity is not available.
  • DB2 zSeries and iSeries servers must have fixes installed for the APARs as specified in the Technical information, Compatibility section.
  • Customers using DB2 Connect with DB2 for OS/390 V5.1 databases must upgrade to a supported version of DB2 for OS/390 as V5.1 is no longer supported.

Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Software Subscription and Technical Support, is included in the Passport Advantage Agreement. Installation and technical support is provided by the Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service enhances customer productivity, with voice and electronic access into IBM support organizations.

Security, auditability, and control

DB2 Connect Personal Edition uses security and auditability features to encrypt user IDs, passwords, and the data that flows between the client application and the backend database server. This ensures that only valid users are permitted access to the database servers. DB2 Connect interfaces with Microsoft™ Active Directory and Kerberos security mechanisms.

The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

Metric descriptions

Installs and server install

Each installation of the program must have a separate entitlement.

User

When obtaining a license for DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition, users can be counted as either concurrent user or registered user. Each person or user making a connection to a host computer system must have a separate entitlement. When concentrating software is used, the users of that concentration software must each be counted as users.

Concurrent user

A concurrent user is a person, application, or device used by a single person or device that has established one or more connections to one or more databases through a DB2 Connect server. A user with multiple connections to a single DB2 Connect server counts as only one concurrent user of the DB2 Connect server. Persons using applications that connect to a DB2 Connect server through other products that act as connection concentrators must be counted as DB2 Connect users and are subject to use-based charges. Persons using applications based on Web technologies (intranet or Internet) can not be licensed as concurrent users. In such cases, each potential application user must be licensed as a registered user or either DB2 Connect Application Server Edition or DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition products should be used.

Registered user

A registered user is a person, application, or device used by a single person , application, or device entitled to establish one or more connections to any authorized DB2 Connect server in the customer's enterprise, either directly or through a multiplexing program, application server, or Web server.

Host server install

A host server license must be obtained for each independent DB2 for OS/390 and z/OS® database server being accessed with DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition. If the server is part of a sysplex (a cluster of System/390® or IBM eServer zSeries servers), only one host server entitlement is required for all mainframe servers that are a part of the sysplex. When multiple independent mainframe servers or multiple sysplexes are used, one host server license must be obtained for each mainframe server or sysplex.

MSUs

An MSU entitlement must be obtained for each MSU on the DB2 host system.

Per application server processor

This description applies to processors attached to application servers. A processor license must be obtained for each processor attached or available to these Web servers or application servers. Charges are not based on the number of servers or processors attached or available to the DB2 Connect server itself.

Terms and conditions for all products

If obtaining this program through another IBM program

If this program is acquired through another IBM program, then the program unique terms contained within that other IBM program take precedence.

Usage restriction — Development use

If this a program is acquired through DB2 Personal Developer's Edition, then this program is licensed for installation and use by an individual user on a single machine within your enterprise. You may only use the program for the purposes of evaluating, demonstrating, testing, and developing application programs.

If this program is acquired through DB2 Universal Developer's Edition, then the program can be installed on a shared server for use by all users with valid DB2 Universal Developer's Edition licenses. You may only use the program for the purposes of evaluating, demonstrating, testing, and developing application programs.

IBM DB2 Connect Personal Edition

This program is licensed for installation and use by an individual user at a single workstation within your enterprise. This product is not licensed for use with application servers.

IBM DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition

This program includes a license for one server install.

Additional user entitlements must be obtained under only one of the following terms. Concurrent User licensing is based on the capacity of the DB2 Connect server, where capacity is defined in terms of the maximum number of persons using the server at the same time. Registered User licensing requires each person who is a potential user of one or more DB2 Connect servers be licensed to use the DB2 Connect servers.

Concurrent User licensing restrictions — Use-based Charges for Users Logged On/Concurrent Users are not applicable when connections to this product are made through the Internet and/or intranet. When using this product to support applications that use Web-based technologies and rely on connections made from Internet and/or intranet, use-based charges must be based on the number of registered users. If determining the number of registered users is not possible or not practical, DB2 Connect Application Server Edition product should be used.

Connections made to this product through other products that act as connection concentrators must be counted as DB2 Connect users and are subject to use-based charges as either registered users or users logged on/concurrent users.

IBM DB2 Connect Application Server Edition

This program provides communication infrastructure and programming APIs for Web servers or application servers to connect to data residing on mainframe and midrange systems.

Charges for this program are based on the number of processors attached or available to the Web servers or the application servers using the program. Charges for this program are not based on the number of servers or processors attached or available to the program itself. Charges for this program are also not effected by the placement of the program. For example, the same charges apply whether the program is installed on the same server as the Web server or the application server, or if it is installed on a separate server(s). The total number of processors attached or available to the Web servers or application servers may not exceed the number authorized by the applicable Proof(s) of Entitlement (PoEs) or authorized by each product authorization acquired under Passport Advantage. If the total number exceeds the quantity in your PoEs or exceeds your Product authorizations acquired under Passport Advantage, you must notify IBM or its reseller as stated in the IPLA.

IBM DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition

This program provides media and licenses to deploy either DB2 Connect Personal Edition and DB2 Connect servers. In addition, licensing and charges are not based on the number of users or specific users being registered but on the Millions of Service Units per Hour (MSU) entitlements of the DB2 Universal Database® for z/OS and OS/390, or DB2 Server for VSE and VM server.

Use-based charges — MSUs — DB2 Connect use-based charges for MSUs apply to any single DB2 for z/OS and OS/390 subsystem or DB2 Server for VSE and VM database server for which users will be connecting. Resources Available or Attached (for example, MSUs or Millions of Service Units per hour) — Charges for this program are based on the total MSU capacity of the attached DB2 Universal Database for z/OS and OS/390, or DB2 Server for VSE and VM host system. Where the host system is part of a Parallel Sysplex®, MSUs are based on the DB2 entitlements of the entire sysplex.

The total capacity of the DB2 Universal Database for DB2 for z/OS and OS/390 or DB2 Server for VSE and VM system attached or available may not exceed the total number authorized by the applicable PoEs or authorized by each product authorization acquired under Passport Advantage. If the total number exceeds the quantity in your PoEs or exceeds your product authorizations acquired under Passport Advantage, you must notify IBM or its reseller as stated in the IPLA.

High Availability/Failover licensing

IBM DB2 Connect Application Server Edition

DB2 Connect Application Server Edition license charges are based on the number of processors used by an application server and not the DB2 Connect server. Therefore, the terms "idle standby" and "active standby" apply to the application server configuration and not the DB2 Connect server configuration.

In active standby or idle standby, you must acquire the correct number of processor entitlements:

In an active standby configuration, the program is operational on all servers to service user transactions or queries. Because each of the active standby application servers is used to operate the program for user transactions or queries before or after a failure, the program must be fully licensed. In active standby, you must license the program for the number of processors attached or available to the standby server. In active standby, you must license the program for the number of processors on the active standby application server. For example, if the active standby application server machine has four processors then you must obtain four processor entitlements.

In an idle standby configuration, an idle standby server has application server installed on it, but the application server is not processing any end-user transactions or query workloads. An application server is considered "idle" if it is used exclusively for administrative actions that assist in failover scenarios, such as having a database in rollforward pending state to support log shipping, or in making a flash copy of a DB2 database and then performing a database backup of this copy on another server. In idle standby, you must license the program for one processor per idle server only, regardless of the number of processors attached or available to the application server.

IBM DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition

In active standby or idle standby, you must acquire the correct number of server install entitlements and the correct number of user entitlements:

In an active standby configuration, the program(s) are operational on all servers to service user transactions or queries. Because each of the active standby servers is used to operate the program(s) for user transactions or queries before or after a failure, the program(s) must be fully licensed on both primary server and active standby server(s). In active standby, you must license one server install per program for each active standby server; and the number of users accessing the server before the failover. During the failover, the user licenses on the failed server are transferred to the active standby. For example, consider an environment with two servers, one primary server with 10 users and the other one an active standby server with 20 users. This environment must be licensed for two server installs and 30 users (10 for primary and 20 for active standby).

An idle standby server has a DB2 Connect server installed on it, but DB2 Connect server is not processing any end-user transactions or query workloads. In idle standby, you must license the program for one server install for each idle standby server. No additional user entitlements need to be acquired in the idle standby server.
