Description

DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Multiplatforms V7.1.1 includes a new OnDemand Report Distribution feature to expand the scope of DB2 Content Manager OnDemand as well as other enhancements.

DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Report Distribution is an optional separately priced feature of DB2 Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms V7.1.1. It provides an easy way to automatically group reports and portions of related reports, organize them, convert the report data into various formats, and send the reports via e-mail to users, plus make the reports available for printing.

A report in Report Distribution is a document or a set of documents that is retrieved from DB2 Content Manager OnDemand to be delivered to one or more users. It has three main steps:

  • Report extraction retrieves reports based upon user-supplied parameters that are defined in a report-type query.
  • Bundle creation organizes the reports. The bundle allows you to provide separators between each report, a header banner and a trailer banner.
  • Distribution delivery delivers the reports that have been identified and organized to recipients selected from users defined to OnDemand. Delivery options can be chosen from a fixed date or are load-driven. Report Distribution runs in the background and is time-activated. When an active distribution is scheduled for a fixed time and day, Report Distribution retrieves the reports from DB2 Content Manager OnDemand and distributes the bundle. When an active distribution is set for a date and load schedule, Report Distribution checks the timestamp of the last distribution, and if the timestamp differs, the distribution occurs. Otherwise, it skips the distribution until the reports are different.

OnDemand client enhancements provide the user with new options that:

  • Specify automatic column width sizing for the document list
  • Display the connected server name in the status bar
  • Select the delimiter to be used between fields for copying text to the clipboard

OnDemand administration client enhancements include:

  • Adding the object name and server name to the dialog title bar when updating and viewing system objects
  • Server version information added to the status bar and displayed with the server name information
  • Ordering how servers are specified in the tree view — by name, last access, or current order

Improved indexing by removing the limit to the page number by which the ACIF indexing program must find an indexing field

Client preview exit that allows document data to be added, removed, or reformatted before the document is presented to the user

Support for DB2 Universal Database® (UDB) V8.1

Support for Oracle Version 9.2.0.1

Support for Tivoli® Storage Manager V5.2

Support for WebSphere® V5

Xenos d2e for Documents, a business partner solution, can now convert OnDemand line data documents to AFP™, HTML, PDF, or XML file for delivery to the browser via the OnDemand Web Enablement Kit.

The browser-based Information Center includes:

  • Searchable topic-based OnDemand V7.1.1 information organized by product and task
  • Enhanced problem determination with the ability to trace information for the PDF indexer and enhanced messaging for the ARSDOC program

The new DB2 Content Manager trade-up path offers customers the ability to access all the features and functions of DB2 Content Manager OnDemand and DB2 Content Manager without the usage restrictions for existing users. Under the restricted licenses, DB2 Content Manager OnDemand and DB2 Content Manager are limited to use with the specific solution and it may restrict access to some of the components that are included in the generally available Content Manager OnDemand and Content Manager offerings.

For example, a company may have acquired a Business Partner offering which includes a restricted use license for Content Manager OnDemand and Content Manager components. In this case, the use of Content Manager technology is limited to use with the Business Partner's suite of offerings. The customer may want to expand their use of Content Manager technology to other applications. The trade-up makes this an easy and financially attractive option for existing users.

Explanation of terms

DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Server

Your license to the program entitles you to install one instance of DB2 Content Manager OnDemand. If you wish to install additional program server instances on the same or on additional physical servers or nodes, you must acquire additional licenses.

Each Content Manager OnDemand Library Server is defined as one instance, and includes the right to install one Content Manager OnDemand Object Server, each installed on the same or on a separate physical server or node. Each additional Content Manager OnDemand Object Server installed, after the first Object Server per Library Server, is defined as one instance.

Concurrent user

You must acquire an authorization for each concurrent user. The number of concurrent users is defined as the maximum or peak number of users connected to the program servers at one time. Each user connection is considered to be active, and therefore concurrent, for 30 minutes after logon or any transaction against the server. If the user invokes any transaction activity within a 30-minute interval, they will continue to be considered an active concurrent user. If the connected user remains inactive for a period of greater than 30 minutes, they will no longer be considered an active concurrent user, until they re-establish an active connection by invoking a transaction against the server.

The number of actual concurrent users may not exceed the number authorized by the quantity of concurrent user licenses you have purchased. Each Content Manager OnDemand concurrent user license authorizes one individual user to connect to one Content Manager OnDemand program server across any of the following platforms: Windows, AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, OS/390®, and z/OS®.

The definition of a concurrent user includes all users, either within or outside your enterprise, who establish one or more connections to any Content Manager OnDemand program server. These connections may be either direct or through a surrogate or application server (using common techniques such as end user mapping or connection pooling). Employees, clients, partners, and Internet users who make a connection via either an application or client are all counted as concurrent users.

For example, if you have 300 users, and all of these users will interact with the program server once every 10 minutes, then you require 300 concurrent user licenses. Each user is concurrent because they have made a transaction within the 30-minute window.

In another example, if you have 300 users, and all of these users will interact with the program server once every hour, with user transactions evenly balanced over the hour, it is expected you would require 150 concurrent user licenses. Since each user is making only one transaction during the hour period, only half the users would have made a transaction within the 30-minute window and would be inactive at other times.

If the user access pattern cannot be predicted at time of initial purchase, then the best estimate of users and activity levels should be calculated. After implementation, actual usage patterns should be monitored to validate licensing requirements versus authorizations, so that you can true-up the license periodically. To support this activity validation, IBM provides monitoring tools for individual user connectivity to the servers in the program server logs. If connections are made via an application server or Web server, where individuals are not directly logged onto the servers, you should implement a monitoring tool such as WebSphere Site Analyzer to track the number of concurrent users who are accessing the servers via your front-end application.

PDF Indexer feature

The PDF Indexer feature is an optional priced feature of DB2 Content Manager OnDemand. The PDF Indexer feature is included on the program media. You are not authorized to use the PDF Indexer feature unless you first purchase a separate license for this feature. Your license to the program feature allows you to install and use the feature to support definition and capture of PDF data streams on one Content Manager OnDemand Library Server. If you wish to capture PDF data streams on additional Content Manager OnDemand Library Servers, you must acquire additional PDF Indexer feature licenses.

DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Report Distribution feature

The Report Distribution feature is a optional priced feature of DB2 Content Manager OnDemand. The Report Distribution feature is included on the program media. You are not authorized to use the Report Distribution feature unless you first purchase a separate license for this feature. One license to the Report Distribution feature authorizes you to interact with one Content Manager OnDemand Library Server. If you wish to interact with additional OnDemand Library Servers, you must acquire additional Report Distribution feature licenses.

The Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit is available via both the DB2 Content Manager OnDemand and DB2 Content Manager packages. Refer to the unique licensing terms below for each configuration alternative.

The Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit is an optional priced feature of DB2 Content Manager OnDemand. The OnDemand Web Enablement Kit includes the DB2 Content Manager eClient and its prerequisite DB2 Information Integrator for Content. You are not authorized to install or use the Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit unless you have first acquired the appropriate license for this feature when users are licensed as DB2 Content Manager OnDemand concurrent users. One license to the Web Enablement Kit feature authorizes you to access one Content Manager OnDemand Library Server. If you wish to access additional OnDemand Library Servers, you must acquire additional Content Manager Web Enablement Kit licenses.

The Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit is also provided as a feature of DB2 Content Manager. A registered user is defined as a user within the customer's enterprise who is entitled to establish one or more connections to any authorized program included in the Content Manager CEO Bundle, directly or through an application server. Each user making a connection to a program included in the Content Manager CEO Bundle must have a separate license. When concentrating software, which is defined as any application that establishes a connection on behalf of a user, is used for Internet or Application access, the users of that concentration software must each be counted as a registered user.

IBM electronic services

IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support on the IBM eServer®. You should benefit from greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services is comprised of two separate but complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent™.

IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. By using the news page, it enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The IBM Electronic Service Agent is no-additional charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system. It is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM Warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that maintains higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
