Overview

IBM Tivoli® Monitoring for Web Infrastructure is a critical tool that helps ensure the optimal performance and availability of both application servers and the associated Web servers that feed them. Ultimately, this tool increases the effectiveness of an IT organization and provides optimal performance and availability of critical Web infrastructure by:

  • Providing a single point of control to enable IT organizations to understand the health of the key elements of a Web-based environment
  • Letting administrators quickly identify problems, alert appropriate personnel, as required, and offer a means for automated problem correction
  • Providing a real-time view of performance health and feeds a common data warehouse for historical reporting and analysis

With IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure, V5.1.1, you can manage and monitor key WebSphere® Application Server components running on z/OS™, z/OS.e, and OS/390®. You may now get the benefit of optimal performance and availability of critical Web infrastructure on these additional platforms.

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure is a monitoring and management tool designed to help ensure optimal performance of enterprise Web Application servers and Web servers. Specifically, IBM Monitoring for Web Infrastructure has capabilities for WebSphere, WebLogic, Apache, IIS, and iPlanet Web server.

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure is a critical management component for any enterprise engaged in e-business, or any enterprise that electronically communicates with customers, partners, or suppliers. By identifying potential problems before they occur, IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure can keep a Web infrastructure operational, reducing maintenance costs and increasing overall system productivity. And, when problems do occur, IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure's alert feature and automated task capabilities enable an enterprise to automatically take corrective actions or alert operations staff that a particular resource needs attention.

Product Positioning

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure is part of Tivoli's overall performance and availability monitoring product portfolio. It uses the IBM Tivoli Monitoring agent, and retrieves and reports on various combinations of key Web infrastructure metrics related to Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs), Java™ Virtual Machines (JVMs), Servlets, and Database Connection Pools. IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure monitors and manages the performance and availability of Web application server components. Together with IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Transaction Performance, which monitors the performance of Web-based transactions, IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure provides a solution that completely covers any enterprise Web infrastructure. It also complements IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Business Integration, IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Databases, and IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Applications, letting you provide total IT infrastructure management from a single vendor.

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure enables you to realize IBM's strategic vision of autonomic computing. By utilizing various combinations of performance metrics, IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Web Infrastructure identifies problem signatures that point out specific problems in the enterprise Web infrastructure. These problem signatures are based on "IBM best practices" that were defined based on extensive surveying of customers, global systems integrators, and WebSphere subject matter experts. Ordering Information for Passport Advantage

Passport Advantage allows you to have a common anniversary date for Software Maintenance renewals which can simplify management and budgeting for eligible new versions and releases (and for related technical support) for your covered products. The anniversary date, established at the start of your Passport Advantage Agreement, recurs on an annual basis while your Passport Advantage Agreement remains in effect. However, regardless of when Software Maintenance is acquired, the coverage period for Software Maintenance is always up to the anniversary date specified in the acquisition.

Software Maintenance

Software Maintenance is included with each product authorization acquired. Software Maintenance provides an easy and effective way by which you have access, during the coverage period, to eligible new versions and releases and to remote technical support for your covered products.

The technical support included in Software Maintenance provides remote support during normal business hours in your country or location as well as access to escalation management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for mission-critical (Severity 1) problems.

With Software Maintenance, you receive the following technical support benefits:

  • Telephone access and/or electronic access via the Web to an IBM Customer Support Center.
  • Support for routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions and code-related problems.
  • Support during normal country business hours, namely prime shift hours, Monday through Friday, excluding national or statutory holidays.
  • Support for mission-critical (Severity 1) problems during non-prime shift hours, namely all hours outside normal country business hours including national and/or statutory holidays.
  • Two-hour response time objective during prime shift for voice and electronic submission. The response objective for critical/emergency problems during offshift is also two hours.
  • Access to hints, tips, and frequently asked questions.
  • Access to escalation management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Open Authorized Technical Caller list to submit problems to IBM Support Centers on your behalf. Open to any number of technical specialists within your IS organization. Each caller must be registered through the IBM problem submission Web site in order to submit problems. Problem submission is handled by the Site Technical Contact as listed on the Passport Advantage enrollment form.
  • eCare for Software is an initiative designed to enhance your electronic support experience by providing the following advantages:
