Enhancements in V1.6.0

IBM Tivoli Data Warehouse zSeries Infrastructure and Enablement*

IBM Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390 V1.6.0, leveraging its enablement pack, moves subsets of data, generated by the z/OS subsystems in your enterprise, from its schema to the enhanced DB2 schema of the new IBM Tivoli Data Warehouse technology. With IBM Tivoli Data Warehouse technology, Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390 consolidates and organizes z/OS subsystem data in order to feed your business process solutions supporting IBM Tivoli Data Warehouse.

*The zSeries enablement pack for Tivloi Data Warehouse will be available later than Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390 V1.6 and via a separate media.

Information Management System (IMS) Enhancements

IMS V8.1 support including shared queue enhancement: In addition to adding support for the latest release of IMS V8.1, the log collector engine has been enhanced and redesigned to handle the IMS shared queue environment so that an IMS transaction can be processed in several IMS systems belonging to the same shared group. Moveover, a new sub-component has been added to provide accounting and availability information for IBM resources.

IMS-light feature: A new IMS light component allows users, with remote systems, to reduce the amount of IMS data that needs to be transmitted across their network for central site data consolidation. The log collection procedure lets users install the needed parts on the remote systems without installing, at those locations, the entire IBM Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390 base product. You can now preprocess IMS records before sending them to the main location for data consolidation on the main database.

New message queue statistics: The IMS subcomponent now collects statistics on the messages in the IMS queues. With this capability, the IMS Administrator can better perform capacity planning and/or optimization tasks on the IMS queues.

WebSphere Application Server Support

With this new support, you can now collect and analyze information that is unique to the WebSphere Application Server. WebSphere for z/OS has its own SMF (type 120) records, which provide additional domain-specific information for WebSphere for z/OS. All of this information is available so you may investigate system reliability, perform capacity planning tasks, analyze configuration and identify and charge-back system resource usage.

CICS Availability Information Added in the Statistic Sub-Component

CICS availability information for the overall subsystem,as well as the connection to DB2, is now avaiulable in the CICS_AVAIL_T_,_D,_W tables.

MVS Availability Component

A new MVS Availability Component has been added in the System Performance feature to provide availability statistics for the MVS system. Moveover, it allows the collection of availability statistics for other subsystems like DB2/390, MQSeries, and WebSphere for z/OS, without the need to install and activate, as in previous Tivoli Decision support for OS/390 releases, the entire MVS Component.

Time to Value Enhancements

  • Intelligent Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390 upgrade preserves existing users' customization when applying patches.
  • Product initialization and customization process has been improved to help achieve quick product setup
  • User friendly archive facility provides:
    • New Reorg/Discard Utility: used to delete the data contained in the Users Tables (discard) using the Purge condition present in the DRLPURGECOND table pre-loaded in Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390. At the same time, the Reorg/Discard Utility performs Reorg of the table space where the above selected table resides. The Reorg/Discard Utility can be a valid alternative to the "Purge" Utility.
    • Load/Unload Utility: allows the writing or reading of data directly on tape. This is very important and useful since it can increase the possible backup operations of data contained in a table.
    • Support for "DB2 High Performance Unload" utility: a high-speed DB2 utility for unloading DB2 tables from either a table space or an image copy. Tables are unloaded to one or more files based on a specified format. You can use the utility to extract data for movement across enterprise systems or for reorganization. With this utility, you can rapidly unload table spaces, execute, in parallel, several unloads accessing the same table, unload any image copy to eliminate interference with your DB2 production databases, and unload selected rows and columns along with generate load control statements for subsequent reload.

Note: The DB2 High Performance Unload Utility is not shipped with IBM Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390. Information on how to obtain the DB2 High Performance Unload Utility is available at the following Web site:

  • Data Dictionary for MVS, MVSPM, and DFSMS subcomponents provide, in the related tables' comment fields, a description of the correlated SMF records that indicates where the information is derived from.

Processor Utilization Metrics Consistency (MIPS Metrics)

During the analysis time, this enhancement provides consistent measurements when the CPUs are upgraded. The MVS subcomponent has new information such as:

  • Machine model
  • Number of active CPs per LPAR
  • MIPS per machine model and MIPS per LPAR

New Administrative Reports for Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390 System Objects

Additional online administration reports are provided that:

  • List all tables with comments
  • List columns for a requested table with comments

This function enhances the user's ability to create and provide online data dictionary and documentation both on the IBM Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390 components and user's own custom components.

Application Currency

IBM Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390 supports many of the z/OS subsystems (IMS, CICS, and DB/2) and, in addition, data from distributed platforms such as UNIX®, Windows NT®, and iSeries™. This new release works with the current levels of IMS V8.1, CICS TS 2.2, z/OS V1.4, NetView for z/OS V5.1, WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V4.01 and OS/400 V5.2.

NPM/IP Subcomponent Redesign

The NPM/IP support, which was added with IBM Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390 V1.5.1, is now implemented in this V1.6 release as a separate subcomponent of the network feature and also includes additional new reports.

SMF30 Interval Records Support Provided as Sample

You get a specific customization sample which shows you how to generate accounting information along with the interval data.

Terms and conditions, ordering information and pricing for IBM Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390, formerly Tivoli Performance Reporter for OS/390 (5695-101), are unaffected by this announcement.

Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act

IBM Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390 is capable when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.

Product Positioning

IBM Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390 and IBM Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390 Accounting Workstation Option is designed to help you understand your performance challenges by collecting raw systems metrics data, consolidating them in a DB2 OS/390 repository, and providing tools to improve operational planning, cost management, responsiveness, and decision making. Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390 was designed specifically for performance analysts, capacity planners, and accounting/chargeback analysts. It provides the information to enable the analyst to measure and evaluate the business value of IT in order to help insure overall system reliability and efficiency across the entire enterprise and ultimately to help improve the economic performance of your IT investment.

Software Maintenance

Software Maintenance is included with each product authorization acquired. Software Maintenance provides an easy and effective way by which you have access, during the coverage period, to eligible new versions and releases and to remote technical support for your covered products.

The technical support included in Software Maintenance provides remote support during normal business hours in your country or location as well as access to escalation management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for mission-critical (Severity 1) problems.

With Software Maintenance, you receive the following technical support benefits:

  • Telephone access and/or electronic access via the Web to an IBM Customer Support Center.
  • Support for routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related problems.
  • Support during normal country business hours, namely prime shift hours, Monday through Friday, excluding national or statutory holidays.
  • Support for mission-critical (Severity 1) problems during non-prime shift hours, namely all hours outside normal country business hours including national and/or statutory holidays.
  • Two-hour response time objective during prime shift for voice and electronic submission. The response objective for critical/emergency problems during offshift is also two hours.
  • Access to hints, tips, and frequently asked questions.
  • Access to escalation management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Open Authorized Technical Caller list to submit problems to IBM Support Centers on your behalf. Open to any number of technical specialists within your IS organization. Each caller must be registered through the IBM problem submission Web site in order to submit problems. Problem submission is handled by the Site Technical Contact as listed on the Passport Advantage enrollment form.
  • eCare for Software is an initiative designed to enhance your electronic support experience by providing the following advantages:
    • Single view of IBM distributed software that includes easy/integrated access to the following information and functions:
      • Marketing
      • Technical
      • Developer
      • Business Partner
      • IBM Services
      • Downloads

    • Comprehensive electronic (via the Web) self-help capabilities available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
    • Advanced search capabilities
    • A single interface to the IBM problem submission/management system for IBM distributed software

Software Maintenance renewals offer you favorable pricing to continue your coverage without interruption. PA allows you to have a common anniversary date for Software Maintenance renewals, which can simplify management and budgeting for eligible new versions and releases (and for related technical support) for your covered products. The anniversary date, established at the start of your PA Agreement, recurs on an annual basis while your PA Agreement remains in effect. However, regardless of when Software Maintenance is acquired, the coverage period for Software Maintenance is always up to the anniversary date specified in the acquisition.

Refer to the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement and to the IBM Software Maintenance Handbook for specific terms relating to, and a more complete description of, technical support provided through Software Maintenance.

IBM Electronic Services

IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support on the IBM eServer. You should benefit from greater system availability because of faster problem resolution and pre-emptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services comprises two separate but complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent™.

IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. By using the news page, it enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The IBM Electronic Service Agent is a no-additional charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system that is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that maintains higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
