Overview

IBM Tivoli® Monitoring for Network Performance monitors, records, and interactively reports communications network performance and utilization for TCP/IP and SNA networks on OS/390® and z/OS™ systems. It provides the timely analysis of traffic flow, transit times, and component use for network tuning and problem determination.

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Network Performance will:

  • Display information on multiple TCP/IP stacks across multiple host systems
  • Provide an overview of network activity
  • Provide detailed information on alerts, stack workload, channel activity, and traffic for connections

It can display all the channel-attached processors and links and their connectivity status in real time. The product can identify any device that is unavailable or has exceeded the threshold queue with the LinkView feature, automatically notifying the operations staff and the supporting automation services. The Syspoint feature summarizes the status of the sockets and the connectivity to all your sessions in real time for all the systems you are monitoring. You can use the Port Workload feature to zoom in to any port/application or session to view additional detail. You can display summary and detail data on Alerts. And using the BatchPR mainframe reporting option, you can configure data sources and generate reports on response time and availability.

Easy To Install

In most environments, IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Network Performance components can be installed, configured, and run in less than one day, resulting in improved operations and improved help desk productivity.

Description

New In This Release

Internationalization Enablement

This product is translated into Japanese and available February 14, 2003.

Batch Reporting Enhancements

In addition to the five current BatchPR reports (System Level Summary, Resource Performance Summary Report, Resource Availability Summary Report, Resource Performance Detail Report, and Resource Availability Detail Report) these will be added in this release:

  • Workload Summary Report — provides an overview of the usage of the stack by protocols TCP and UDP. It shows the overall throughput in bytes-in and bytes-out, the maximum, and the average value in the extended period for both of these protocols. It also reports the share of the data transfer volume for the server and client applications and the number of sessions observed.
  • Applications Workload Report Workload Server Application Report — provides more details relative to the server applications running on the host. It reports all ports associated to a server application group and their corresponding data transfer volumes (total, maximum, and average).
  • Clients Workload Report Workload Client Application Report — provides more details relative to the client applications running on the host. It reports all remote ports that a client application uses and their corresponding data transfer volumes (total, maximum, and average).
  • Session Detail Report — provides detailed information about each observed session. It identifies the session by the local port and the foreign IP address/foreign port pair, and reports the session's corresponding total, maximum, and average data transfer volumes.

Support for z/OS SMF 119 Records

The z/OS and OS/390 operating systems create System Management Facility (SMF) records reflecting the wide variety of activities within their execution environment. Before this release the product used SMF Record 118 whose data is being migrated to a new record 119 by the operating system. This release will provide compatibility of the new information in SMF 119. If customers choose to write 119 records only, this release will be able to provide the same reports that are based on the 118 records (for example, SessionLog, API Expert, Telnet Expert, and FTP Expert).

Support for MVS™ Commands

The "D OMVS" command will be accessible from the Command Tab, providing expert-assisted interface to display and diagnose current OMVS-based settings and associated Unix System Services, (USS) processes.

Enterprise Extender Expert

The UDP section in Connect Expert will be summarized in two parts: the Enterprise Extender (EE) Expert, and non-Enterprise Extender UDP sessions. Each part will also include new throughput in/out information. The Enterprise Extender Expert will provide throughput information (Thru24 Report) for the current monitoring interval, the last monitoring interval, and since midnight. It will also provide hyperlinks to the APING and "D NETS, RTPS" commands for testing EE connections. The Enterprise Extender Expert Report provides workload (bytes in and bytes out) and throughput (bytes in/sec and bytes out/sec) information for each of the Enterprise Extender's UDP ports (port numbers 12000 — 12004).

Thru-24 Feature

Real-time display for near-time throughput information such as current monitoring interval, last monitoring interval, and since midnight for comparison. This feature will be available in LinkView and Enterprise Extender (EE) real-time display. Throughput data has been added to all Connect Expert real-time reports (UDP Expert, the new Enterprise Extender (EE) Expert, and the TCP Expert reports).

Thru-99 Feature

The Thru-99 feature consists of historical throughput information reports using interval records for different time-frames such as hourly, daily, and monthly. LinkView Report provides historical (daily and hourly) workload and throughput information on links. Enterprise Extender Report provides historical (daily and hourly) workload and throughput information on Enterprise Extender (EE).

Exploit new FTP exit (FTPOSTPR)

The FTP server Activity Log will contain new information about FTP client and command status, provided by the new FTP exit FTPOSTPR, which is called upon completion of the FTP commands RETR, STOR, STOU, APPE, DELE, and RNTO. New information available will be the user ID, the Client IP Address, the current file type and directory type, and the FTP reply code. (This new exit is limited to z/OS 1.2 and later.)

The customer has 360 MSUs being managed/monitored.

The customer will require the following licensing:

MSUs
Managed/Monitored

360

The point value will be based on 360 MSUs as follows:

  • The first one, two, or three MSUs at the Base 3 MSU point value
    • Next 42 MSUs at the Level A (4-45 MSU) point value per MSU
    • Next 130 MSUs at the Level B (46-175 MSU) point value per MSU
    • Next 140 MSUs at the Level C (176-315 MSU) point value per MSU
    • Remaining 45 MSUs at the Level D (316+ MSU) point value per MSU

Total Tivoli Management Points required =

    1745 + 42*26 + 130*20 + 140*15 + 45*11 (360 zSeries managed) = 8032

As the zSeries server grows, only the incremental number of MSUs is required.

Software Maintenance

Software Maintenance is included with each product authorization acquired. Software Maintenance provides an easy and effective method by which you can have access, during the coverage period, to eligible new versions and releases and to remote technical support for your covered products.

The technical support included in Software Maintenance provides remote support during normal business hours in your country or location as well as access to escalation management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for mission-critical (Severity 1) problems.

With Software Maintenance, you receive the following technical support benefits:

  • Telephone access and/or electronic access via the Web to an IBM Customer Support Center.
  • Support for routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions and code-related problems.
  • Support during normal country business hours, namely prime shift hours, Monday through Friday, excluding national or statutory holidays.
  • Support for mission-critical (Severity 1) problems during non-prime shift hours, namely all hours outside normal country business hours including national and/or statutory holidays.
  • Two hour response time objective during prime shift for voice and electronic submission. The response objective for critical/emergency problems during offshift is also two hours.
  • Access to hints, tips, and frequently asked questions (FAQs).
  • Access to escalation management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Open Authorized Technical Caller list to submit problems to IBM Support Centers on your behalf. Open to any number of technical specialists within your IS organization. To submit problems, each caller must be registered through the IBM problem submission Web site. Problem submission is handled by the Site Technical Contact as listed on the Passport Advantage enrollment form.

    • Advanced search capabilities.

Software Maintenance renewals offer you favorable pricing to continue your coverage without interruption. Passport Advantage allows you to have a common anniversary date for Software Maintenance renewals, which can simplify management and budgeting for eligible new versions and releases (and for related technical support) for your covered products. The anniversary date, established at the start of your Passport Advantage Agreement, recurs on an annual basis while your Passport Advantage Agreement remains in effect. Regardless of when Software Maintenance is acquired, coverage always extends to the anniversary date specified in the acquisition.

Refer to the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement and to the IBM Software Maintenance Handbook for specific terms relating to, and a more complete description of, technical support provided through Software Maintenance.
