Shipment to customers selected for the Early Support Program (ESP) will begin on January 31, 2003.

Description

Version 8 of DB2 Diagnostic and Recovery Utilities for z/OS, DB2 Operational Utilities for z/OS, and DB2 Utilities Suite for z/OS all have the following enhancements:

  • Restart is improved, since restarting the utilities will no longer require adding the RESTART or RESTART(PHASE) parameters to the job.
  • Online schema support through REPAIR VERSIONS allows reconciliation between DB2 catalog/directory and tablespace or indexes copied from another system with DSN1COPY or other means.

DB2 Diagnostic and Recovery Utilities for z/OS, V8 provides two new utilities:

  • BACKUP SYSTEM invokes new z/OS V1.5 DFSMShsm™ services to take volume copies of the DB2 data and logs.
  • RESTORE SYSTEM recovers the DB2 system to a prior point in time by restoring volume copies of the DB2 data and applying the logs.

DB2 Operational Utilities for z/OS, V8 provides the following enhancements:

  • Delimited data support for LOAD and UNLOAD provides family compatibility with DB2 for Linux, UNIX®, and Windows®.
  • New defaults for better "out-of-the-box" performance are provided, so you no longer have to add the parameters below to get the best utility performance:
    • SORTKEYS for LOAD/REORG/REBUILD
    • SORTDATA for REORG
  • REORG will use implicit clustering index. REORG will now order the data by the same implicit clustering index as SQL inserts if no index on the table has been created with or altered to CLUSTER.
  • REORG SHRLEVEL CHANGE allows DISCARD. DISCARD during Online REORG is now supported.
  • REORG SHRLEVEL NONE/REFERENCE allows REBALANCE. REORG can automatically distribute data evenly across partitions.
  • Usability has been improved with SCOPE PENDING. REORG and REBUILD are enhanced to limit operation to partitions or list items in REORG pending or REBUILD pending without you having to list only those objects.
  • Additional statistics are provided:
    • More non-uniform statistics and on non-indexed columns are supported. RUNSTATS is enhanced to also collect least frequent column values and to provide most and least frequent column values on non-indexed columns.

The products in this announcement are capable as of their general availability, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.

Ordering Information

The products in this announcement have one charge unit: Value Unit.

Value Unit-based pricing will help to align the prices of these products to the principle of the PSLC pricing curve, which provides for a lower price per MSU (millions of service units per hour) for larger capacities.

There is also a price benefit when customers grow their capacity. Additional capacity will be based on the number of Value Units (MSUs) the customer has already installed. For example, additional capacity will not be priced starting at the base with a higher price per unit but on the capacity that is already installed.

Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another product.
