At a Glance
MERVA ESA Components V4.2, when combined with MERVA ESA V4.1 and WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks, provides the foundation for financial network consolidation. This release focuses on platform currency by upgrading the MERVA NT components to Microsoft Windows 2000.
MERVA ESA Components V4.2 provides the support features for MERVA ESA 4.1 in a single product:

MERVA ESA provides message processing and funds transfer functions used primarily in the finance industry. When combined with IBM WebSphere® Business Integration for Financial Networks, announced October 8, 2002, MERVA ESA V4.1 provides a strategic, integrated financial network consolidation infrastructure.
MERVA ESA Components adds functionality to the overall MERVA ESA V4.1 portfolio by combining all the additional MERVA ESA features into a single product for easy ordering. This new release of MERVA ESA Components focuses on platform currency by providing support for Microsoft Windows® 2000.
A key component of the release is MERVA USE and Branch for Windows 2000, which provides security, message queuing and routing, additional message processing functions, and MERVA Link (for connectivity to other MERVA ESA or MERVA USE and Branch installations). The MERVA USE and Branch for NT with SWIFTLink feature will not be upgraded due to the movement of SWIFT FIN traffic to SWIFTNet FIN. This transition will eventually make SWIFTLink obsolete.
The MERVA Directory Services and MERVA Traffic Reconciliation features for OS/390® are contained in MERVA ESA Components V4.2 and are unchanged from V4.1.
MERVA USE and Branch for Windows 2000
MERVA USE and Branch consists of the following components:
Connection Features (OS/400® and Microsoft Windows 2000)
The Connection/400 and Connection/2000 features allow you to extend the MERVA API of MERVA USE and Branch across systems. This allows financial applications residing on remote IBM iSeries (AS/400®) or Microsoft Windows 2000 based systems to be connected to MERVA USE and Branch (and from there via MERVA-to-MERVA Connection to MERVA ESA).
When Microsoft Windows 2000 or OS/400 applications are used as banking applications on a different system than the one MERVA USE and Branch is running on, messages created on the other system must be transferred to the MERVA system. Messages received from one of the networks must be transferred from the MERVA system to the other Microsoft Windows 2000 or iSeries (AS/400) system.
MERVA connection features provide an interface for application programs on another Microsoft Windows 2000 or iSeries (AS/400) system. It is called the Remote MERVA API. Using the Remote MERVA API, an application on Microsoft Windows 2000 or OS/400 can be created to send messages to MERVA and receive messages from MERVA with a minimum of effort.
MERVA Import/Export Feature
The MERVA Automatic Message Import/Export Facility consists of:
Message Transfer: Message transfer can be performed in different ways. Because many products have a file transfer interface, message transfer between MERVA and other message-processing products is done through files.
Files can be exchanged through:
With the MERVA Automatic Message Import/Export Facility you can automatically:
The MERVA Automatic Message Import/Export Facility also offers you:
MERVA ESA Components V4.2, when combined with MERVA ESA 4.1 and WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks, provides the strategic platform for financial network consolidation.
Hardware and Software Support Services
IBM Installation Services are provided for MERVA Version 4 and WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks by IBM Global Services or your IBM Business Partner at an additional cost. Specified Operating Environment
Files accessed by these components must reside on an NTFS file system.
Dialog functions can be used from any terminal supported and operated by Microsoft Windows 2000.
The estimated minimum machine requirements are:
To utilize the SWIFT USE functionality, in addition to the above requirements, the following are needed:
Additional Machine Requirements for Multi-User Support: MERVA's multi-user support is implemented using Microsoft Windows Terminal Server. For each additional user, the memory should be increased by 20 MB of RAM.
Additional Machine Requirements for MERVA Connectivity: MERVA Link, the remote MERVA family clients, and the connection features support the interconnection of MERVA systems within an SNA network using LU 6.2 services or a TCP/IP network. One of the network control facilities supporting such a communication method is required (for example, an IBM 37xx communication controller), along with a networking interface card on the PC (for example, an Ethernet or SDLC card).
Connection/400: The Connection/400 feature runs on an iSeries (AS/400®) system connected to MERVA USE and Branch via SNA or TCP/IP. MERVA Connection/400 can communicate with MERVA USE and Branch. PC hardware requirements can be found in the section for MERVA USE and Branch.
The Remote MERVA API client can be installed on any Microsoft Windows 2000 system with approximately one megabyte of free space on its hard disk.
The following machine requirements are needed to install MERVA Automatic Message Import/Export Facility for Microsoft Windows 2000:
Operating System: MERVA USE and Branch is based on Microsoft Windows 2000, Service Pack Level 2, U.S. English.
License Management: MERVA USE and Branch expects the License Use Management Runtime program Version 4.6.5 for using the software key capability. This program is contained on the MERVA USE and Branch CD-ROM.
Database System: DB2 Universal Database® Workgroup Edition V7.1, Service Pack Level WR21254, is required.
MERVA USE and Branch also requires the following software:
Additional Program Requirements for Multi-User Support: One of the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server products that include Terminal Server support is required.
Additional Program Requirements for the API: MERVA USE and Branch supports the C programming language to write application programs using the MERVA API functions. The Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 compiler is supported.
MERVA Connection/400: A TCP/IP or an LU 6.2 connection between Communications Server and OS/400® must be customized for the PC connection. This can be achieved by Ethernet, Token Ring, SDLC, Twinax, and other types of connection for which Communications Manager SNA Server and OS/400 provide support for an LU 6.2 session. For a list of the alternatives available and the hardware required for each, refer to the appropriate books listed in the bibliography of the Connection/400 documentation (SH12-6340).
Programs Required on the MERVA USE and Branch Side:
Programs Required on the AS/400:
Note: Only ILE is supported.
Personal Communications (or Server) is required only if an SNA APPC connection is used for the communication between the Remote MERVA API client and server. Personal Communications is not required if a TCP/IP connection is used for that purpose; in this case TCP/IP must be installed on the Windows system. Communications Server for Windows 2000 provides the same functionality as Personal Communications and more. Whenever Personal Communications is mentioned, Communications Server is also sufficient for the task.
The MERVA Connection/2000 client application system and the MERVA server system must be interconnected by a Data Communication Link. As specified by the used Data Communication Service (SNA APPC or TCP/IP), Ethernet, Token Ring, SDLC, Twinax, or other types of intersystem links can be used. A corresponding data link adapter must be installed in the Windows system.
Security, Auditability, and Control
The security features of the Windows-based features of MERVA ESA Components are:
The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.
