Description

The IBM Holosofx software consists of four products:

IBM Holosofx Workbench

The IBM Holosofx Workbench is an application that provides robust functionality for process modeling, enterprise modeling, business process analysis, and workflow translation.

The IBM Holosofx Workbench helps you model a process and enterprise, model the applications and design GUIs, analyze the process, and translate the process for workflow automation.

Business analysis is one of the critical and most useful functionalities of IBM Holosofx Workbench. Many business process modeling efforts stop at developing flow diagrams or process maps; however, with the IBM Holosofx Workbench, the effort is extended to include analysis, redesign, application development, and automation.

The IBM Holosofx Workbench includes a UML modeler and an Xform designer. Comprised of highly innovative components, the IBM Holosofx Workbench helps you:

  • Model business processes and capture the flow of work through the enterprise
  • Create process models, workflow models, and official company procedures that have an extended life cycle
  • Develop extendable process models within a single tool and build a common language for communicating process elements and requirements throughout your company
  • Support and implement enterprise initiatives, such as:
    • Workflow automation
    • Policy and procedure documentation
    • Application development
  • Gain a true understanding of the performance capabilities of the process through implementation of performance measures, detailed cost, and time metrics
  • Generate detailed comparisons and cost justifications between the "as-is" and "to-be" business process model
  • Identify bottle-necks and determine appropriate resource allocation for short-term changes in volume, using animated simulation
  • Model business process-driven applications
  • Identify the application specification and requirements for more effective applications
  • Convert UML diagrams and export them for use in other application development tools, such as Rational Rose
  • Allow for the rapid design of GUIs as part of gathering the requirements by the business users
  • Automatically transform business process elements into UML-based IT development artifacts and vice versa:
    • Enterprise data structures — UML Classes
    • Business process model — UML Activity Diagram
    • Business process model — UML-based PIPs
    • Business process activities — UML Use Cases
    • Business process roles — UML Use Case Actors
  • Design business process-driven user interfaces specified by the user profile within the process
  • Automatically expand high-level process into larger "end-to-end" process Schedule processes and view GANTT charts
  • Automate validation of process models
  • Capture organizational policies, procedures, business rules, goals, and issues
  • Define resource allocation across the enterprise and locate to the activities in the business processes
  • Export all reports to MS Excel and MS Word:
    • Process times/costs — tabular and graphical
    • Redesign report
    • Case analysis
    • Resource utilization
    • Breakeven and ROI analysis
    • Organization chart
    • Communication diagrams
    • Data matrices
  • Produce animated process simulation and generate statistical simulation reports
  • Model and redesign the business process, incorporating business/time metrics, business rules, and policies/procedures
  • Validate and optimize all business processes by using analysis, simulation, and reporting
  • Provide support for:
    • MQSeries Workflow by generating Flow Definition Language (FDL) and providing automatic workflow validation
    • Workflow management coalition by generating Workflow Process Definition Language (WPDL)
    • RosettaNet PIPs
  • Build UML diagrams
  • Import/export to Rational Rose
  • Link UML diagrams to activities in process models
  • Gather data for user interface design and development
  • Link user forms to activities in process models

IBM Holosofx Monitor

The IBM Holosofx Monitor helps track processes and business performance measures and generate statistical reports for analysis based on actual data. In addition, the IBM Holosofx Monitor facilitates completion of the cycle of business process improvement by feeding actual information back to the IBM Holosofx Workbench for further analysis and process redesign. This provides the basis for business process management, which leads the process into a continuous improvement cycle.

The basic function of the IBM Holosofx Monitor is to track events generated by the MQSeries Workflow Application and apply them to a process model that was developed in IBM Holosofx Workbench. The process model serves as a basis for visualizing the performance of the process as it happens, real-time. You can see what activities are being performed, who is performing them, and where there are bottlenecks.

The IBM Holosofx Monitor consists of two components:

  • Workflow Dashboard

The Workflow Dashboard helps you track processes, work items, and business performance measures (modeled in IBM Holosofx Workbench) in real-time and take corrective actions. Upon invocation of a corrective action, the Workflow Dashboard will then issue a command to MQSeries Workflow via the appropriate APIs.

    The Workflow Dashboard helps you:

    • Track a process and its business performance in real-time
    • View process instances and activity instances
    • Perform administrative duties and corrective actions, such as suspending, terminating, and load balancing
    • Monitor current resources and processes and identify their performance measures in real-time
    • Export data to process models in Workflow Dashboard
    • Track the workload of an organization unit and employees
    • Enhance workflow alert system and event reporting
    • Tailor an advanced/alarm alert system to the specific needs of managers in a process
    • Provide event storage and reporting
    • Offer a Java-based Web application designed for deployment using WebSphere® Application Server, that uses EJBs, Servlets, JSFs, CORBA, IIOP, RMI, and DB2®

  • Business Dashboard

The Business Dashboard is used to generate reports based on historical data. It offers a set of analytical tools such as trend and quartile analyses.

    The Business Dashboard helps you:

    • Generate comprehensive, detailed, customizable statistics based on historical process data and business performance measures
    • Produce performance-oriented decision making by proactively managing the business process to optimize performance
    • Provide user-defined performance measures that include financial, cost, time, and utilization
    • Offer trend and quartile analyses capabilities
    • Provide actual data export to IBM Holosofx Workbench, allowing the IBM Holosofx Workbench to perform analysis on actual data
    • Offer external visibility that can be authorized for external entities affected by the process
    • Make available actual versus estimated statistical information for analysis and redesign of business processes
    • Offer a Java-based Web application designed for deployment using WebSphere Application Server, that uses EJBs, Servlets, JSFs, CORBA, IIOP, RMI, and DB2
