IBM Mobile Connect V3 A New Version With New Functions and Simplified Pricing Replaces Previous Releases

Mobile Connect is a server-based data synchronization and management solution for a wide variety of businesses and enterprises. It allows you to manage and control information remotely, whether you are synchronizing information between mobile devices and your network server, or updating software applications running on handheld devices. Mobile Connect V3 excels in administrator experience and user experience. It provides a software infrastructure that is easy to support and easy to use. This helps ensure that the use of handheld devices for data delivery in your organization is successful. Mobile Connect V3 provides for:
Mobile Connect V3 provides tools to help manage and transfer data and applications to mobile devices. Administrators can set up the necessary actions to automatically deploy and configure applications. They can also log the status and errors of mobile devices. This helps administrators identify and diagnose problems for their remote users.
Site Wizard: Allows administrators to quickly set up the server configuration to synchronize personal information management (PIM) data between Microsoft Exchange or Lotus® Domino databases and handheld devices running Palm, Windows CE, Pocket PC, or Symbian operating systems. With this powerful tool, IT administrators can:
Microsoft Management Console (MMC): This snap-in facilitates administration across large organizations by allowing administrators to manage the Mobile Connect V3 servers using their existing MMC tool. It also:
Security: The mobile and wireless world presents significant security challenges because data can be accessed remotely and from such a wide variety of devices. Elliptic Curve Cryptography from Certicom has been integrated into Mobile Connect V3 to help you ensure secure transfer of data.
Database Synchronization: Although access to e-mail is still the most popular application used by mobile workers, enterprise users also want applications that dig into their corporate databanks and download business-specific applications. Mobile Connect V3 gives IT organizations, developers, and integrators the ability to customize application data and synchronize it to mobile databases.
Mobile Connect V3 supports any ODBC-compliant database, Microsoft
Exchange Server, or Lotus Domino database. This allows IT to easily set
up and create custom synchronization databases such as DB2®
Everyplace or ADOCE.
Device User Tools
IBM understands that successful integration and support of handheld devices into your organization means making those devices truly useful. The client side of Mobile Connect V3 is designed to be intuitive and easy for mobile device users to use.
PIM Synchronization: Handheld devices are primarily used to help people manage their daily activities. More devices will be brought into your organization as employees look to synchronize their personal information such as e-mail, calendars, tasks, and contact list applications (PIM information). Mobile Connect V3 allows handheld device users to synchronize all PIM data with their corporate server.

Two add-on features are available as optional components:

may add either component at the time of installation of Mobile Connect V3
or at a later time. In either case, you must acquire the proper
licensing through Passport Advantage for the base Mobile Connect V3
program and for either of the optional components that you use in your
Automatic Synchronization for Mobile Connect V3
Automatic Synchronization for Mobile Connect V3 is a powerful add-on feature designed to support Palm and Pocket PC devices. Once this feature is enabled and running, users will always have access to current information on their corporate servers. The timed synchronization sessions enabled by this feature help your users feel like the delivery of information is truly automatic.
Automatic Synchronization eliminates much of the user involvement in the synchronization process by automating the synchronization between handheld devices and corporate servers. Users no longer have to manually click-and-sync to get their latest e-mail, PIM, and database information.
Automatic Synchronization can dramatically improve productivity of handheld device users and allow them a more "desktop-like" experience. It also allows users to customize their synchronization options for e-mail, PIM, and other ODCB data. Users can control:
A key function of Automatic Synchronization is the quick-mail feature which optimizes e-mail delivery for wireless devices. With quick-mail, a full synchronization session is not required. When the device "wakes up," it checks the server to see if any new e-mail has arrived. If there is nothing new, the connection automatically closes. If new mail has arrived, the device retrieves it and delivers it to the user. This minimizes connection time and can reduce costs.
Automatic Delivery for Mobile Connect V3
This innovative add-on feature is available in conjunction with Automatic Synchronization.
Automatic Delivery allows users to receive e-mail automatically and in real time. This concept of "push" technology provides virtually instant delivery of information from the server to the client.
Automatic Delivery monitors user mailboxes for new e-mail. When a message arrives, a notification is sent to the device via the mechanism supported by that device. A Mobile Connect client process of the device intercepts this notification and gets the data from the Mobile Connect V3 server. If the user has notifications enabled, a visual or audible notification will occur upon receipt of the message. Once enabled, Automatic Delivery enables new e-mail to be sent to the device automatically.
Palm i705 integrated wireless devices are supported by Automatic Delivery for Mobile Connect.

IBM Mobile Connect V3 replaces IBM Mobile Connect V2.5, the previous release of this product. Mobile Connect V3 includes all the functionality of V2.5 as well as many enhancements.

Customer Responsibilities: Customers are responsible for acquiring any systems requirements or additional software products that may be needed for their specific environments. They are also responsible for implementing any security measures that are appropriate for their organization.
Direct Customer Support: Direct customer support is provided as part of Passport Advantage Software Maintenance that is provided according to the terms of the Passport Advantage Agreement. This support service can enhance customers' productivity by providing voice and electronic access into the IBM support organization. It provides help with answers to questions pertaining to usage, and suspected software defects for eligible products.

The charge structure of Mobile Connect V3 is different than previous releases. Mobile Connect V2.5 used a matrix of required value units with a minimum of 10 users. Mobile Connect V3 implements a simpler structure that includes a one-time-charge per user with a minimum of one user.
Placing An Order
To order Mobile Connect V3, decide how many users are to be entitled, then order one of the LIC/SW Maintenance Passport Advantage part numbers in a quantity equal to that number of users. "Users" refers to the users listed, that is, registered, in the program. It does not mean concurrent users.
Ordering Optional Components
Mobile Connect V3 is required as a base for either of the optional components (Automatic Synchronization for Mobile Connect V3 or Automatic Synchronization and Automatic Delivery for Mobile Connect V3). You may order either optional component, or a combination of both components, in a quantity equal to the total number of users you entitle to use the Mobile Connect V3 program. For example, if you license 1,000 users for Mobile Connect V3, the combined total number of users for the optional components may not exceed 1,000.
Order the applicable Passport Advantage component part number in a quantity equal to the number of users you want to entitle to use the component. The combined total of optional component licenses may not exceed the total number of Mobile Connect V3 program licenses.
Mobile Connect V2.5 Customers
Eligible Mobile Connect V2.5 customers will receive Mobile Connect V3 according to the terms of their Passport Advantage Agreement. The number of licensed users will remain the same as for V2.5.
To ensure that each customer continues to have the correct number of user licenses after the transition from V2.5 value units to V3 one-time-charge structure, IBM has reviewed each customer's Passport Advantage account. If there is a question about the number of licensed users, contact your IBM Pervasive Computing representative or authorized Business Partner. If you want to license additional users or if you want to license users for the optional components, simply order the applicable part numbers in a quantity equal to the number of users.

Terms and Conditions
Licensing: IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA). Proofs of Entitlement are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.
License Information Form Number: The IBM license agreement (IPLA) and License Information (LI) are included as part of the program software. These license documents are presented for acceptance at the time of installation of the program. The license and LI will be stored in a directory such as LICENSE.TXT for future reference.
Money-Back Guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the Program, return it within 30 days from the invoice date, to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it, for a refund. This applies only to your first acquisition of the Program.
Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Subscription and Technical Support, is now included in the Passport Advantage Agreement. Installation and technical support for the product announced in this letter are provided by the Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service enhances customer productivity by providing voice and electronic access into the IBM support organizations.
IBM includes Software Maintenance with each program acquired during the Coverage Period. Coverage Period means the period commencing on the date you acquire the program up to the first or second Anniversary Date, depending on whether you acquired coverage for one or two anniversaries. The Coverage Period for Software Maintenance acquired in the two months preceding an Anniversary Date will be extended to the next applicable Anniversary Date.
While your Software Maintenance is in effect: IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short-duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. This assistance is not available to your end users. IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, every day of the year. For details, consult your IBM Software Support Guide
Software Maintenance does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under this Agreement.
