Description

With WebSphere AS EE V4.1, you can execute distributed business applications which require extended functions and capabilities greater than those offered by current J2EE standards. These capabilities can be divided into two sets. First, WebSphere AS EE V4.1 includes, through the Enterprise Services, a set of capabilities that run with WebSphere AS AE V4.0. Secondly, WebSphere AS EE V4.1 provides TXSeries (AIX, Solaris, and Windows NT, only), which consists of the mature CICS® and Encina® products. These environments complement the J2EE-based support of WebSphere, for high-powered transaction processing capabilities. A brief description of Enterprise Services and TXSeries is provided below.

Included with WebSphere AS EE V4.1 are MQSeries and WebSphere AS AE V4.0.

For information on MQSeries V5.2, refer to Software Announcement 200-342 , dated October 3, 2000.

For information on WebSphere AS AE V4.0, refer to Software Announcement 201-227 , dated August 14, 2001.

In addition to WebSphere AS EE V4.1, a WebSphere AS EE V4.1 Development Runtime is available. Development Runtime is intended for development purposes only and cannot be used for production purposes or for testing beyond an individual developer's unit testing environment.

Enterprise Services

While WebSphere AS AE implements J2EE and Web services, these two specifications offer limited enterprise-class function. WebSphere enterprise services is a collection of plug-ins that extend the application server to fulfill the broader demands of an enterprise system. Enterprise Services are:

  • Business rule beans — Integrate externally administered business rules that encapsulate business practices and promote consistent policy.
  • Message beans and JMS Listener — Integrate messaging and component-based paradigms, including a blending of synchronous and asynchronous communication patterns (both in-bound and out-bound); mappings between message elements and component attributes; and declarative transactional support.
  • Internationalization service — Global integration that accommodates different cultural conventions and accounts for varying geographical boundaries.
  • WorkArea service — Application integration through transparent access to shared information across a distributed computing environment.
  • CORBA support — Application integration through CORBA services, including bidirectional connectivity to ORBs from multiple vendors and the ability to leverage existing code written in C++.
  • ActiveX to EJB bridge — Component model integration, including client and server-based access to Java from ActiveX environments.

TXSeries V4.3

TXSeries V4.3 builds on its core strengths of scalability, security, transactional integrity, and system reliability. It includes tools to extend implementations based on CICS or Encina to a variety of front- and back-end systems. Included in TXSeries are server and gateway options to connect TXSeries applications to Web servers, application servers, and back-end systems such as mainframe CICS and IMS™. Included are gateways that create and access integrated Internet/intranet TXSeries-based applications, various clients, message-queuing capabilities, and prerequisite run-time products. TXSeries also includes object support for Encina ++, Object Transaction Services (OTS), and Object Concurrency Control Services (OCCS), and offers support for Java and messaging technologies.

TXSeries supports and simplifies transactional connections across increasingly diverse and complex networks. TXSeries delivers the following features necessary for large-scale transaction processing:

  • Scalability — Whether you use the Internet as a platform for e-business or are looking to the latest technologies to expand internal networks into an extranet, most IT departments face the challenge of developing systems and applications that can handle unlimited, or at least unknown, numbers of clients. TXSeries is based on industry-proven technology that leverages replication and workload management to manage thousands of clients and process up to 1 billion transactions in 24 hours.
  • Availability — Business-critical applications must always be available. TXSeries incorporates replication, operational and run-time support, and online management to centrally administer multiple servers, addressing single points of failure and helping ensure that applications are always available.
  • System integrity — System integrity is the cornerstone of a solid transaction processing foundation. In addition to providing atomicity, consistency, isolation, and durability properties, TXSeries helps eliminate bottlenecks and failure points, and enables fast commit processing for transactional integrity across heterogeneous servers.
  • Longevity — To address the longevity of transactional applications, TXSeries focuses on two aspects of leveraging applications: extending existing applications to meet new business goals, such as bringing mainframe applications to the Web; and allowing new applications to use information and services from existing applications.
  • Security — Through DCE on AIX, Solaris, and Windows NT, TXSeries provides the security that leverages both Kerberos and public key technology with authentication control, authorization control, session security, and Web security.
  • TXSeries for Web-Based Transaction Processing — TXSeries performs Web-based transactions with either De-Light or CTG thus allowing choices for Web clients. TXSeries uses standard Web browsers to function as front ends for TXSeries applications. It also supports a variety of Web client-to-server connections including Common Gateway Interface (CGI), Java servlets and applets via the DE-Light Gateway and CICS Transaction Gateway, remote procedure calls, and CORBA Internet Inter-ORB Protocol (IIOP), giving you many options for implementing Web transactions.

Programmer Productivity and Portability

WebSphere AS EE V4.1 supports a variety of programming models:

  • The CICS programming model can take advantage of existing skills and applications to extend mainframe applications to a distributed environment.
  • The Encina programming model helps reduce development time. The model uses libraries that contain the routine instructions required to perform complex, highly reliable transactions that traverse multiple database and data sources.
  • Enterprise Services extend the J2EE and Web Services programming models provided by WebSphere AS AE V4.0. The Message beans and JMS Listener support, Business rule beans, Workarea Service, and Internationalization Service provide programming interfaces that can be used in conjunction with J2EE applications.
  • Enterprise Services also support a simple CORBA 2.1 C++ programming model to augment and complement J2EE-based topologies, either as clients which call the J2EE environment or as servers called by J2EE-based environments.

WebSphere AS EE V4.1 Clients

Enterprise Services augments the J2EE Client by adding access to the Enterprise Services which are introduced on the J2EE server. In addition to this, Enterprise Services has additional client capabilities.

  • CORBA C++ clients, based on the IBM C++ ORB which can access EJBs and services running on WebSphere AS AE V4.0 or WebSphere AS EE V4.1 servers that are using AIX, Solaris, or Windows NT
  • ActiveX clients which can access EJBs running on, and J2EE services on, WebSphere AS AE V4.0 or WebSphere AS EE V4.1 servers
  • CORBA C++ and Java clients, based on popular vendor ORBs which can access EJBs running on WebSphere AS AE V4.0 or WebSphere AS EE V4.1 servers using AIX, Solaris, or Windows NT

TXSeries supports CICS clients which are a versatile, proven connection of users to enterprise transaction systems:

  • CICS clients for AIX, Solaris, OS/2®, DOS, Windows 3.1 Windows 95, Windows NT, and Macintosh operate directly with any supported CICS server. CICS clients are available separately from IBM.
  • Java and Internet clients include object-oriented interfaces for Windows 95, Windows NT, and OS/2.

TXSeries also supports Encina clients which span a spectrum of client technology for exceptional client-to-server connectivity and transaction management:

  • Encina client, in platform-specific C or C++
  • Lightweight, Java-based DE-Light client
  • CORBA client for IONA Orbix clients and servers that use the Encina
  • OTS (based on Orbix V2.3), either with or without DCE servers

Security, Auditability, and Control

WebSphere AS EE V4.1 uses the security and auditability features of the workstation operating system together with full support of Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) (AIX, Solaris, and Windows NT/2000) authentication Remote Procedure Call (RPC), allowing secure access in a LAN environment.

Security and auditability features of the CICS monitor include:

  • Standard CICS security:
    • Transaction security restricting access to transactions to authorized users.
    • Resource security restricting access to CICS resources to authorized users.
  • External security manager: An interface is provided to use the services of an external security manager.

DCE provides automated authentication and security for CICS.

Encina monitor provides automated authorization checking, building on DCE security. The Encina monitor simplifies the use of DCE security with its own ACL manager and automatic checking of security credentials of all clients that access Encina monitor services.

The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

  • IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Support (Z125-6011)
  • Addendum for Support (Software Maintenance) for Select IBM e(logo)server iSeries and pSeries Programs (Z125-6495)

License Information Form Number: The following License Information Forms apply to this product:

  • WebSphere AS EE V4.1
    • For AIX, Solaris, and Windows NT: part number CT0ZZML, form number LC23-4618
    • For HP-UX and Linux: part number CT101ML, form number LC23-4622
  • WebSphere AS EE V4.1, Development Runtime
    • For AIX, Solaris, and Windows NT: part number CT100ML, form number LC23-4619
    • For HP-UX and Linux: part number CT102ML, form number LC23-4623

The following are highlights of the License terms associated with WebSphere AS EE V4.1 base product and Development Runtime:

  • WebSphere AS EE and EE Development Runtime on platforms:
    • Except as provided below, you are authorized to install and use one copy of each component of the WebSphere AS EE on the same machine for each valid PoE to the WebSphere AS EE, notwithstanding the inclusion of multiple versions, releases, and translations (including versions, releases, and translations of a component for multiple operating systems) of a component in the packaging for the WebSphere AS EE.
    • Source code: Some of the components of the WebSphere AS EE are provided in source code form. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the agreement, WebSphere AS EE program services are only provided for the unmodified, binary code versions of these components included in the WebSphere AS EE packaging, and not for the source code for these components or for any modifications of such components you may create. IBM is providing this source code on an AS-IS BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND (EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED) INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND ANY WARRANTY OF NON-INFRINGEMENT.
    • Distributed debugger: Notwithstanding anything in the IPLA to the contrary, you are authorized to install and use an unlimited number of copies of the Distributed Debugger engine component on any of your servers in the WebSphere AS EE environment.
    • DB2 UDB components: The program includes portions of DB2 Universal Database®. You are authorized to install and use one copy of these DB2 UDB components ("WebSphere UDB Components") for use only in association with your licensed use of the AS component of the program, and for use by the copy of SecureWay® Directory which accompanies the program as permitted below, but not other data management purposes. For example, this license permits you to store and manage data generated by the System Management component of the AS for its Admin Repository (including persistent session management data). This license does not permit inbound connections to WebSphere DB2 components (other than from a copy of SecureWay Directory which accompanies the program as permitted below) for queries or report generation. You are authorized to install and use this copy of WebSphere DB2 components on the same machine or on a machine separate from the machine on which you have installed the other components of the program.

The copy of SecureWay Directory which accompanies the program also includes portions of the DB2 UDB Components ("SecureWay DB2 Components"). You may use SecureWay DB2 components as authorized under the terms and conditions of the license for SecureWay Directory as outlined in this License Information document under the header "SecureWay Directory". Alternatively, you may use WebSphere DB2 components in association with your licensed use of the copy of SecureWay Directory which accompanies the program. The restrictions on types of data stored or managed by WebSphere DB2 components for the AS component of the program do not apply to use of WebSphere DB2 components or SecureWay DB2 Components for purposes other than those outlined above; you must acquire a separate PoE for a DB2 Universal Database software product which authorizes such use.

    • SecureWay Directory: The program is accompanied by a copy of SecureWay Directory. You are authorized to install and use, from the media provided with the program, one copy of each of the SecureWay Directory components. You are authorized to install and use this copy of the SecureWay Directory components on the same machine or on a machine separate from the machine on which you have installed the other components of the program. Except as modified by this agreement, your use of the SecureWay Directory components is subject to the terms and conditions of the license agreement which accompanies the SecureWay Directory components.
    • MQSeries: The MQSeries component must be installed on the same machine or SP node with WebSphere AS EE and must only be used to provide asynchronous communications for the WebSphere AS EE applications, including the supplied sample applications. If the MQSeries component is used to provide asynchronous communications between the WebSphere AS EE applications and stand-alone MQSeries applications, additional licenses for the MQSeries components must be acquired separately for each server running stand-alone MQSeries applications.
    • WebSphere AS AE: Except as provided below, you are authorized to install and use one copy of each module of the WebSphere AS AE component on the same machine for each valid PoE to the WebSphere AS EE. You must acquire a PoE for each central processing unit on each machine.
    • Third-party code: The program contains, and future updates and fixpacks to the program may contain, certain third-party components which are provided to you under terms and conditions which are different from this agreement, or which requires IBM to provide you with certain notices and/or information. For each such third-party component, either IBM will identify any such third-party component in the program's "README" file (or in an updated "README" file accompanying the fixpack or update), or in a file or files referenced in such "README" file (and shall include any associated license agreement, notices, and other related information therein), or the third-party component will contain or be accompanied by its own license agreement (for example, provided when installing or starting such component, or accompanying such component in a file entitled "README," "COPYING," "LICENSE," or a substantially similar title, or included among the program's paper documentation, if any). Your use of each third-party component which contains or is accompanied by its own license agreement, or for which IBM has identified a license agreement in one of the above "README" files (or in a file or files referenced therein), will be subject to the terms and conditions of such other license agreement, and not this agreement. By using or not uninstalling such third-party components after initial installation of such third-party components (thereby giving you access to all such terms and conditions, notices, and information), you acknowledge and agree to all such terms and conditions, notices, and information, including those provided only in the English language. You agree to review the "README" files which accompany updates and fixpacks to the program. All third-party components, including third-party components included or embedded in the program, are provided to you by IBM on an "as-is" basis. IBM expressly disclaims all implied warranties, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. IBM will not indemnify you or be liable for any incidental, indirect, special, exemplary, punitive, or consequential damages resulting from third-party claims alleging patent or copyright infringement by any third-party components; including, but not limited to, costs, damages, attorney's fees, costs of court, settlement fees, judgements, lost profits, and related damages.
    • IBM HTTP Server: Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this agreement, you are authorized to install and use an unlimited number of copies of the IBM HTTP Server component of the program on any of your machines, provided that only one such copy of IBM HTTP Server will be subject to the representations and warranties of this agreement and will be eligible for program service.
    • Benchmarking: You may not disclose the results of any benchmark test of the program or its subcomponents to any third party without prior written approval from IBM.
  • WebSphere AS EE, all platforms:
    • BRBeans: Notwithstanding anything in this Agreement to the contrary, you are authorized to redistribute one copy of the BRBeans *.jar file within each *.ear file you create to support your licensed use of the program. Redistributable files are:
      • BRBeansDB2.jar
      • BRBeansOracle.jar
      • BRBeansInformix.jar
      • BRBeansSybase.jar
      • BRBeansSQLServer.jar
    • PoE: You must acquire a PoE for each central processing unit on such machine.
    • DCE for Windows NT: The DCE Cell Directory and DCE Security Services server modules contained in the IBM DCE for Windows NT, that accompanies the program, must be used with WebSphere AS EE. You are entitled to install one of each of the DEC Cell Directory and DCE Security Services server modules with each WebSphere AS EE license acquired. The IBM DCE Runtime Services client modules may be copied, as necessary, to support users whose use of DCE Runtime Services client modules require a WebSphere AS EE server function to execute. Separate licenses for the DCE Cell Directory and DCE Security Services server modules contained in IBM DCE for Windows NT, that accompanies the program and the IBM DCE Runtime Services client modules must be acquired for use with products other than the WebSphere AS EE.
    • DCE for AIX/Solaris: The DCE Cell Directory and DCE Security Services server modules contained in IBM DCE for AIX and Solaris that accompanies the Program must be used with WebSphere AS EE. You are entitled to install one of each of the DCE Cell Directory and DCE Security Services server modules with each WebSphere AS EE license acquired. The IBM DCE Base Services client modules may be copied, as necessary, to support users whose use of DCE requires a WebSphere Application Server Enterprise Edition server function to execute. Separate licenses for the IBM DCE for AIX and Solaris server modules that accompany the program must be acquired for use with products other than the WebSphere AS EE.
  • WebSphere AS EE Development Runtime, all platforms
    • Development purposes: The WebSphere AS EE Development Runtime can be used for development purposes only and is limited to an individual developer's unit testing environment.
