IBM CICS Performance Analyzer (PA) analyzes the System Management
Facilities (SMF) records created by the CICS Monitoring Facility (CMF) to
produce a wide range of reports and extracts that will help you tune and
manage your CICS systems.
CICS PA Provides Reports for All Facets of CICS Systems
Transaction Reports detail all transactions processed, with the
information presented in the format that you want.
Transaction Activity Reports can be tailored to produce a detailed
analysis and comprehensive overview of transaction performance.
Resource Usage Reports show the performance and utilization of your CICS
system resources, including:
Transactions and programs
Secure Sockets and CICS Web support
Transaction Group Reports combine the performance data of all
transactions in your Transaction Groups to produce a consolidated report.
Workload Activity Reports show, at a glance, if the MVS Workload Manager
(WLM) goals that you have set for your CICS transactions are being met.
CICS Business Transaction Services (BTS) Reports evaluate your BTS
Cross-System Work Reports combine the CMF data from all of your CICS
systems to evaluate the performance of Multi-Region Operation (MRO) and
Advanced Peer-to-Peer Communication (APPC) transactions.
Graphs show transaction response time and transaction processing rate at
External Subsystem Reports show the performance and utilization of DB2
and IMS Data Base Control Subsystems.
A comprehensive extract capability enables you to export transaction

New in V1.2
CICS Transaction Server for z/OS V2.2 Support
Existing reports and record selection capabilities have been updated to
include the new CMF performance data fields introduced with CICS
Transaction Server for z/OS V2.
Delivers new DB2 and MVS Logger Reports
The new DB2 reports use the DB2 Accounting data (SMF 101 records) to
provide a detailed performance analysis of the CICS transactions that
access a DB2 external subsystem.
The new MVS Logger Reports use the System Logger data (SMF 88 records) to
provide an in-depth analysis of the system logger log stream activity,
and on the system logger's management of its coupling facility
structures. These new reports, when used in conjunction with the CICS
Logger Reports produced from the standard CICS statistics reporting
utilities, provide a comprehensive analysis of the log stream activity
for all your CICS systems.
New CMF Report
New MVS WLM Reports provide a transaction response time analysis by MVS
WLM service and report class. This new report can be used in conjunction
with the z/OS Resource Measurement Facility (RMF) workload activity
reports to understand from a CICS perspective how well you CICS
transactions are meeting the response time goals.
ISPF Dialog Interface Enhancements
The ISPF online dialog interface is enhanced to allow:
Other data sources, including DB2 Accounting records (SMF 101 records)
and System Logger data (SMF 88 records)
Easier CICS application identifier (APPLID) definition by providing a
data take-up utility from an SMF file
Improved record selection capabilities by allowing APPLID masking and
null value support
APPLID and SMF file alternate views
Object list point and shoot selection
Report forms upgradeability from earlier CICS releases
Enhanced Performance Data Extract Capability
The performance data extract capability is enhanced to provide detail and
summary record formats, as well as provide the ability to customize the
record format layout to your specific requirements. This enhancement
significantly improves the capabilities to analyze CICS system and
transaction performance from your PC workstation using spreadsheet and
database products such as Lotus 1-2-3, Microsoft Excel, or Lotus
Enhanced Report Forms Capability
The report customization capabilities have been extended to include the
Cross-System Work Report.
An upgrade capability allows report forms, already created from an
earlier CICS PA release, to be easily updated and migrated to the CICS PA
Other Functional Enhancements
Improved Cross-System Work and Transaction Group Report format
The formatting of date and time information for the CMF data has been
improved by the automatic use of the local time zone offset for the SMF
110 records, enabling easier and consistent interpretation of the reports
The performance summary report time interval range is extended from 1
hour to 24 hours, thereby enabling daily summary reports to be easily
The Cross-System work data set record format has been updated to the
level of the performance class data created by CICS Transaction Server
for z/OS, V2.2.
Provides Easy-to-Use Documentation
In this revision of the CICS PA documentation, the
has been split into two manuals. The first is the
itself, which provides important setup and troubleshooting information.
The second manual is the

Accessibility by People with Disabilities
The following features support use by people with disabilities:
Operation by keyboard alone
Tested with screen readers and screen magnifiers for use by people with
Optional font enlargement and high contrast display settings
Audio alerts are optional for people with hearing difficulties
You can perform most tasks required to set up, and run CICS PA using a
3270 emulator logged onto TSO.
IBM Personal Communications (Version 5.0.1 for Windows® 95,
Windows 98, Windows NT®, and Windows 2000; Version 4.3 for
OS/2®) provides 3270 emulation with accessibility features for people
with disabilities. You can use this product to provide the accessibility
features you need for accessing your CICS system.
Users with limited vision who work with screen reader software might find
the following require particular attention:
The Performance Graph Reports
These reports are composed of character output. Screen readers can
report all of these to you but they are unlikely to convey the overall
impression of the graph.
All the data used to produce Performance Graph Reports is available from
CMF performance class data. You might find it more helpful to work with,
for example, the Performance Summary reports or the Performance Export
CICS PA uses the ISPF function that produces pop-up windows for some
tasks. The pop-up and its frame are just the text that overlays the
underlying information of the displayed panel. The frame of such a
pop-up is not usually recognized as such by screen reader software, so
you may need to gain some familiarity with reading such panels before
information becomes meaningful.
A version of the product documentation which is more suitable for use
with screen reader software can be made available on request.
This program is not impacted by euro currency.
