Extends Systems Management to the Application Level
Included Tivoli Enterprise software can enable Microsoft Windows-based POS solutions to be integrated in your enterprise, extending the management strategy to the store level. Integration with vendor-specific solutions, such as IBM StoreFlow Tivoli ready module, can enable an innovative end-to-end system management strategy that can also extend to the application level.
Improves Availability of POS Systems
Tivoli Point of Sale Manager creates a powerful management environment that centralizes the configuration and operations of the store. It also monitors your POS systems and can respond automatically to error events, potentially eliminating problems before they result in downtime or affect customer service. The bottom line is effective maintenance and operations of the store with less system downtime, reduced help desk costs, and more time for store operations staff to sell merchandise.
Planned Availability Date

End of Support
Based on the Tivoli end of support policy, Tivoli support for Tivoli Point of Sale Manager V2.0 will be discontinued 12 months after the planned availability date of Tivoli Point of Sale Manager V2.1.
Tivoli Point of Sale Manager can help retailers meet their objectives of maximizing revenue and controlling costs by enhancing the availability and management of their Point-of-Sale (POS) solutions in their stores.
An inoperative POS terminal can result in the loss of a sale in many cases as customers often don't have the time for store personnel to resolve the problem. In addition to the lost revenue on a sale, problems may be compounded with dissatisfied customers and inefficient operations as store personnel attempt to resolve problems. Tivoli Point of Sale Manager provides a solution that helps enable proactive management of POS terminals helping to ensure their availability, which can speed the checkout process, and can also help store personnel maximize the time spent assisting customers to make purchases.
Tivoli Point of Sale Manager creates a powerful management environment that monitors store systems and can respond automatically to error events, potentially eliminating problems before they result in downtime or affect customer service. Integration with the Tivoli Enterprise Console allows this by enabling system administrators to respond to events in the same way they currently respond to events in their back-end systems; little additional training is required, other than developing an awareness of the POS system capabilities.
Tivoli Software Distribution further helps enable system administrators to deploy new applications, operating system updates, and data files to thousands of controllers automatically and remotely. This efficient method of deployment helps allow for easy packaging, distributing, and installing of software on an enterprise-wide scale. Tivoli Software Distribution uses transaction-based technology to help ensure that all client and server software components are installed in an accurate, error-free, and fully synchronized manner.
Enhanced file transfer and data movement services can provide on time download of new prices and promotions and accurate transmission of sales figures. These capabilities may be important to a retailer's ability to manage inventory costs and generate customer loyalty. Tivoli software helps provide an optimized and flexible schedule, a synchronization between different stores, and a quick assured delivery.
Tivoli Inventory helps make enterprise-wide POS system configuration information readily available to the people who need it by allowing them to scan each system for vital management information. This information is stored in one of many popular relational database management systems, and Tivoli Inventory provides powerful facilities to exploit this data. Tivoli Inventory also enables frequent updates to help keep the database accurate, even when the environment is large and network bandwidth is at a premium. Accurate inventory information can be vital for administrators challenged with quickly resolving problems and spotting trends. Trends that correlate POS hardware and software configurations with certain problems can be used to determine problem areas with other similarly configured stores to help eliminate these problems before they reach critical levels.
The standard Tivoli products, Tivoli Enterprise Console, Tivoli Software Distribution, and Tivoli Inventory, are included within this comprehensive offering at no additional charge.
Tivoli Point of Sale Manager solution extends Tivoli Enterprise management capabilities to manage POS devices supporting, beyond the traditional Windows and IBM 4690 POS environment, as part of an end-to-end systems management strategy.
Retailers can now adopt a single comprehensive, completely integrated
solution both for their store operations and their traditional IT
environment which can offer significant benefit in terms of investment
protection and end-to-end management.
This program is EuroReady.
For more information on the implications of the euro, visit the IBM euro Web site at:
IBM considers an IBM product to be EuroReady if the product, when used in accordance with its associated documentation, is capable of correctly processing monetary data in the euro denomination and of respecting the euro currency formatting conventions (including the euro sign). This assumes that all other products (for example, hardware, software, and firmware) that are used with this product are also EuroReady. IBM hardware products that are EuroReady may or may not have an engraved euro sign key on their keyboards.
Currently, EuroReady status applies primarily to IBM products specific to the EMU countries. Products that are not specific to these countries are deemed to be "not ready" for euro unless otherwise stated in the product's country-specific specifications.
IBM Hardware Ready
IBM supplies certain IBM products which include third-party software (pre-loaded or not) and/or third-party attached hardware. In these instances, IBM is not in a position to assert that these third-party products are, in themselves, EuroReady.
Therefore, such IBM products will be designated as Hardware ready.
IBM considers a solution to be EuroReady when the solution providers have:
and can clearly demonstrate this by:
The euro capabilities of a EuroReady solution will be clearly identified as features of the solution specification, as described in the contracts document.
