Tivoli® Manager for MQSeries® Integrator provides a comprehensive systems management solution for users of IBM's MQSeries Integrator application integration software. By monitoring and managing the MQSeries Integrator infrastructure, Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator enhances a customer's business-to-business performance. It helps ensure high availability and rapid response times by monitoring MQSeries Integrator message brokers and message flows.

Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator is a management solution that manages MQSeries Integrator as a component of overall business systems, linking the management to databases, applications, and other middleware products that span widely distributed environments.

Key features of Version 1 Release 1 (V1R1) include:

  • Support for IBM MQSeries Integrator V2.0.1 and V2.0.2
  • Tracking changes to broker topology to help with configuration management
  • Performance monitoring of message flows with a Tivoli monitoring node

Description

Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator enables you to manage MQSeries Integrator installations by providing the following features:

  • Availability Management
  • Configuration Management
  • Performance Management
  • Operations Management

Availability Management

Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator provides monitors to periodically check the status of your MQSeries Integrator components. MQSeries Integrator components can be fully up, partially up, down, or unknown. The monitors automatically update Tivoli desktop icons with the current component state. Using these monitors, you can change the triggering thresholds and the actions to be taken at the different thresholds.

To help ensure that you are managing all MQSeries Integrator components, Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator provides a discover task that finds existing MQSeries Integrator brokers, Configuration Managers, and User Name Servers. As the discover task finds new MQSeries Integrator components, it automatically adds them to your Tivoli configuration.

MQSeries Integrator components report operational changes into their local logs. Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator provides event adapter functions to extract and report MQSeries Integrator events from these logs and report them to Tivoli. These events can be viewed on the Tivoli event console, and rules can be written to automatically take action based on these events.

Configuration Management

Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator provides tasks that you can use to change your MQSeries Integrator component configuration. You can use these tasks to create new MQSeries Integrator components, change startup options for the Manager for MQSeries Integrator components, and delete MQSeries Integrator components. As you add and delete MQSeries Integrator components, you can organize them in your Tivoli server to reflect your MQSeries Integrator broker domain configurations.

MQSeries Integrator brokers manage the MQSeries Integrator processing resources of execution groups and message flows. When configuration changes are made to these processing resources, MQSeries Integrator reports the changes through a publication facility. Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator provides an event adapter to receive notifications of these configuration changes and to report them as Tivoli events. These configuration events can be viewed on the Tivoli event console, and rules can be written to take action automatically, based on these events.

In addition to MQSeries Integrator configuration management, the Tivoli servers must be configured to run Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator functions. Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator provides tasks that assist in this configuration. There are tasks to configure the Tivoli event server, Tivoli event consoles, Tivoli logfile adapters, and Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator event adapters. There are tasks to install the Manager for MQSeries Integrator event adapter, MQSeries Integrator node, and support services.

Performance Management

Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator provides a set of monitors and an MQSeries Integrator node which, when properly configured, enables you to measure and report on MQSeries Integrator message flow performance. The Tivoli MQSeries Integrator node is installed and included in message flows using the MQSeries Integrator Control Center. Once included in a message flow, the Tivoli MQSeries Integrator node collects information that can be reported to Tivoli using the Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator performance monitors. Using these tools, you can measure message rates through message flows and end-to-end processing time through message flows.

Operations Management

Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator provides tasks that enable you to manage your MQSeries Integrator components daily. These tasks start and stop your MQSeries Integrator components and resources, check on the status of your MQSeries Integrator components, retrieve information about your MQSeries Integrator component environment, set MQSeries Integrator tracing options, and retrieve MQSeries Integrator trace files.

MQSeries Integrator components use MQSeries queues and queue managers to perform their processing. Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator integrates with the Tivoli Manager for MQSeries when queue management actions are required.

Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator provides event rules to manage the information presented on your event console. These rules remove duplicate events, remove harmless events, and correlate events to close events that are no longer relevant. You can extend these rules to provide processing unique to your installation.

The Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator event reporting functions support standard Tivoli event filtering. You can use these filtering tools to reduce the number of events sent to your event server.

Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator uses Tivoli authorization roles to control access to the provided tasks. Using these facilities, you can delegate Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator management responsibilities to the appropriate Tivoli administrators in your organization.

Security, Auditability, and Control

Tivoli Manager for MQSeries Integrator uses the security and auditability features of the operating system software and the Tivoli Management Framework.

The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

Ordering information for 5698-MMI will continue for a limited time to allow migration to the Passport Advantage offering.

To order a basic license, specify the program number, feature number 9001 for asset registration, and the feature number of the desired distribution medium. Also, specify the one-time charge feature number from the tables below in the quantity desired (maximum quantity of 250).

The quantity of Tivoli Management Points is based on servers.

Tivoli Systems Support

Although the first year of support is included in the product price, a no-charge order must be placed using program number 5698-SPT specifying feature number 9001 for asset registration and the appropriate First Year Standard Support — No Charge feature number. This 5698-SPT order establishes entitlement records worldwide. If a 5698-SPT order is not placed, the customer will not be entitled to support even during the first year of a license.

Before the end of the first 12 months support period, customers will be notified of their support renewal options. Unless the customer notifies IBM/Tivoli to discontinue or alter the level of support currently being received, support will automatically be renewed for annual billing at the same level as selected in the first year. Once the subsequent year support feature numbers are in place, renewals are automatic and billed annually unless support is cancelled by the customer.

Support Upgrade

During the first year of a license, the customer may upgrade to the Tivoli Standard-24 or Tivoli Select Support option by ordering the applicable one-time charge (OTC) feature number from the table below. The OTC feature numbers may be specified on the initial order or later via an MES during the first year only. Ordering this OTC feature will not result in an extension of the no-charge (NC) support period.

In subsequent years, if a customer wants to upgrade to the Tivoli Standard-24 or Tivoli Select Support option, an MES order must be entered to discontinue the existing support option feature number and to add the feature number for the desired options After an MES order is entered, the support will be renewed and billed annually at that support level unless support is cancelled by the customer.

Passport Advantage Software Maintenance

Software Maintenance (called Support for Tivoli products outside of Passport Advantage) is included with each product authorization acquired under Passport Advantage.

Software Maintenance provides an easy and effective way for access, during the coverage period, to eligible new versions and releases and to remote technical support for your covered products.

The technical support included in Software Maintenance provides remote support during normal business hours in your country or location as well as access to escalation management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for mission critical (Severity-1) problems.

With Software Maintenance, you receive the following technical support benefits:

  • Telephone access and/or electronic access via the Web to an IBM Customer Support Center
  • Support for routine, short duration installation and usage ("how-to") questions and code-related problems
  • Support during normal country business hours, namely prime shift hours, Monday through Friday, excluding national or statutory holidays
  • Support for mission critical (Severity-1) problems during non-prime shift hours, namely all hours outside normal country business hours including national and/or statutory holidays
  • Two hour response-time objective during prime shift for voice and electronic submission. The response objective for critical/emergency problems during offshift is also two hours.
  • Access to hints, tips, and frequently asked questions
  • Access to escalation management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Open Authorized Technical Caller list to submit problems to IBM Support Centers on your behalf. Open to any number of technical specialists within your IS organization. To submit problems, each caller must be registered through the IBM problem submission Web site. Problem submission is handled by the Site Technical Contact as listed on the Passport Advantage enrollment form.
  • eCare for Software is an initiative designed to enhance your electronic support experience by providing the following advantages:

Passport Advantage allows you to have a common anniversary date for Software Maintenance renewals, simplifying management and budgeting for eligible new versions and releases, (and related technical support) for your covered products. The anniversary date, established at the start of your Passport Advantage Agreement, recurs on an annual basis while your Passport Advantage Agreement remains in effect. However, regardless of when Software Maintenance is acquired, the coverage period for Software Maintenance continues until the anniversary date specified in the acquisition.

Software Maintenance renewals offer you favorable pricing to continue your coverage without interruption.

Refer to the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement and to the IBM Software Maintenance Handbook for specific terms relating to, and a more complete description of, technical support provided through Software Maintenance.
