Overview

Tivoli® Manager for R/3, a comprehensive R/3 management solution for the mySAP.com e-business environment, monitors resources, manages alerts, tracks performance, and automates tasks in an R/3 environment. This new release of Tivoli Manager for R/3 contains the following enhancements:

  • Support for SAP's Computer Center Management System (CCMS) Monitoring Architecture — makes Tivoli Manager for R/3 more complementary by leveraging the predefined CCMS or any custom monitor sets.
  • CCMS Alerts can be retrieved almost instantly from the entire SAP environment. The central event correlation in the Tivoli Enterprise Console® helps you to simplify the root-cause analysis, even of a complex SAP system landscape.
  • You can accelerate the customization of the CCMS environment through use of existing, already defined R/3 monitor sets for the CCMS Monitoring Architecture.

Tivoli best practices are available from the Tivoli International Center of Excellence for SAP. They include customer monitor sets and threshold suggestions.

The Tivoli Decision Support Guide for R/3 V1.0.1 , included with V2.2 of Tivoli Manager for R/3, provides in-depth analysis of accumulated SAP performance data.

In addition to English, national language support has been added for Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.

Description

Tivoli Manager for R/3 can provide system administrators, operators, and IT managers with the essentials of their short-term and long-term R/3 and mySAP operations. It is a comprehensive R/3 management solution for the mySAP.com e-business environment. V2.2 of Tivoli Manager for R/3 extends functionality to the CCMS Monitoring Architecture, a common architecture built into every R/3 system and providing a CIM-based data store. R/3 and mySAP applications provide feeds to the CCMS Monitoring Architecture.

Tivoli Manager for R/3 now interfaces with CCMS to retrieve important alert information about the entire R/3 system and mySAP applications. Using Tivoli's integrated management facilities, Tivoli Manager for R/3 provides key information to accelerate the troubleshooting process for R/3 and for mySAP applications. The synchronization of both Tivoli and CCMS Monitoring Architecture events provides a consistent view of the system status for all administrators.

In addition, Tivoli makes available a monitor set as a Tivoli best practice through the Tivoli International Center of Excellence for SAP (Walldorf) with the essential monitors inside the CCMS Monitoring Architecture. The Tivoli monitor set nicely complements the CCMS architecture and it is tailored to cover areas that many R/3 and mySAP customers need.

Tivoli Manager for R/3 also includes the Tivoli Decision Support Guide for R/3 . While Tivoli Manager for R/3 is strongly focused on real-time monitoring and automation, the Tivoli Decision Support Guide for R/3 can help you avoid unnecessary investments in additional server capacity by providing you with quantitative information and analysis about your SAP workload patterns, trends, and the service you provide to your customers on a transaction-by-transaction basis.

Hardware platforms supporting the operating systems at the software levels stated in the Software Requirements section.

Software Requirements

Operating systems:

Tivoli Manager for R/3 runs in 32-bit mode, even on 64-bit machines. Therefore, with the exception of HP-UX 11.x, the R/3 application server and the R/3 database server run on the following operating systems in 32-bit mode only.

  • AIX® 4.3.3
  • HP-UX 10.20 (32-bit mode) or HP-UX 11.x (32-bit mode and 64-bit mode)
  • Sun Solaris 2.6, 2.7, or 2.8
  • Windows NT® with Service Pack 6A
  • Windows® 2000 Professional, Server, Advanced Server, and Datacenter Server

Limitations: Support for R/3 releases is limited to the extend that SAP supports its R/3 releases. This means that Tivoli Manager for R/3 automatically drops support for an R/3 release when SAP drops support for that release.
