Overview

IBM Content Connector for Panagon Image Services allows users of both IBM Content Manager and IBM Enterprise Information Portal (EIP) to access enterprise-wide content stored in the following servers:

  • IBM Content Manager
  • FileNET Panagon Image Services (IDMIS 3.5.0)
By adding IBM Content Connector for Panagon Image Services to an EIP or the EIP Client Kit for Content Manager configurations, you can search across the following servers to retrieve a complete set of matched results:
  • IBM Content Manager
  • IBM Content Manager OnDemand
  • IBM Content Manager ImagePlus® for OS/390®
  • FileNET Panagon Image Services

Access to your business content is enabled by the connector technology provided with the IBM EIP. Searching for the right content is simplified with EIP's schema mapping. For example, "SS No" = "Social Security Number" — so existing but different descriptions in each content server are no problem.

Users may search across these different content servers with no need to redefine existing attributes, avoiding any disruption to your content infrastructure.

Key features of IBM Content Connector for Panagon Image Services :

  • Offers you greater leverage in searching and retrieving enterprise content.
  • Enables you to search:
    • Across IBM Content Manager and FileNET Panagon Image Services content servers with unlike or unique naming conventions.
    • IBM Content Manager, IBM Content Manager OnDemand, and FileNET Panagon Image Services with the Connector and EIP or EIP Client Kit for Content Manager.
    • All IBM Content Manager repositories, FileNET Panagon Image Services and Relational Database's, Web sites, and Domino™ databases with the Content Connector for Panagon and EIP.

Description

IBM Content Connector for Panagon Image Services V7.1 provides IBM EIP or IBM EIP Client Kit for Content Manager users with access to enterprise-wide content, in both IBM Content Manager and FileNET Panagon Image Services repositories, with a single search request. The addition of the IBM Content Connector for Panagon Image Services to an IBM EIP configuration also enables customers to develop applications to an IBM EIP federated search toolkit. This leverages this infrastructure for information access based on unique business needs. Users have the ability to search across a FileNET Panagon Image Services content server, in conjunction with other supported IBM EIP backend content servers, and retrieve matched results.

IBM Content Connector for Panagon Image Services provides a set of IBM EIP Java™ API classes that access FileNET IDMIS 3.5.0 content servers using:

  • Java Native Interface (JNI)
  • C native functions
  • FileNET Image Services Toolkit (WAL 3.5.0) API

Key features of the Content Connector:

  • Allows search and retrieve access to FileNET Panagon Image Services contents in an IBM EIP or EIP Client Kit for Content Manager environment
  • Configurable through the IBM EIP System Administration client
  • Supports IBM EIP federated schema mapping with searches across a Panagon Image Services Content datastore in conjunction with other IBM EIP-accessible datastores
  • Works with applications developed to IBM EIP interfaces. This includes support for the IBM Content Manager eClient that is shipped with IBM EIP V7.1.2, and later1
  • Provides a public Java Class Library, consistent with other IBM EIP connectors, to allow application developers to build custom applications using the IBM EIP API framework
  • Contains sample programs to demonstrate the usage of the Content Connector functions

Note:

1
The Content Manager eClient is designed for use with IBM Content Manager repositories, or with IBM Content Manager in conjunction with other content servers. The Content Manager eClient is not supported for use with solely non-IBM content servers.

Accessibility by People with Disabilities

For software offerings:

Client support is provided via IBM EIP for Multiplatforms or EIP Client Kit for Content Manager.

Euro Currency

This program is EuroReady.

For more information on the implications of the euro, visit the IBM euro Web site at:

EuroReady Products

IBM considers an IBM product to be EuroReady if the product, when used in accordance with its associated documentation, is capable of correctly processing monetary data in the euro denomination and of respecting the euro currency formatting conventions (including the euro sign). This assumes that all other products (for example, hardware, software, and firmware) that are used with this product are also EuroReady. IBM hardware products that are EuroReady may or may not have an engraved euro sign key on their keyboards.

Currently, EuroReady status applies primarily to IBM products specific to the EMU countries. Products that are not specific to these countries are deemed to be "not ready" for euro unless otherwise stated in the product's country-specific specifications.

IBM Hardware Ready

IBM supplies certain IBM products which include third-party software (pre-loaded or not) and / or third-party attached hardware. In these instances, IBM is not in a position to assert that these third-party products are, in themselves, EuroReady.

Therefore, such IBM products will be designated as Hardware ready.

EuroReady Solutions

IBM considers a solution to be EuroReady when the solution providers have:

  • Analyzed the euro requirements, including the need to comply with relevant EC rules
  • Built in appropriate function
and can clearly demonstrate this by:
  • Detailing euro related requirements
  • Describing how these will be implemented in the solution
  • Declaring when the implementation will be generally available

The euro capabilities of a EuroReady solution will be clearly identified as features of the solution specification, as described in the contracts document.

Software Requirements

System Environment

  • FileNET Panagon Image Services (IDMIS 3.5.0) content servers
  • Panagon Image Services Toolkit (Workflo Application Library (WAL)) Release 3.5.0
  • Windows NT® 4.0 or Windows® 2000

And one of the following:

  • Enterprise Information Portal for Multiplatforms V7.1.2, or later, and its prerequisites. Refer to Software Announcement 200-263 , dated August 8, 2000, for details.

    or

  • EIP Client Kit for Content Manager V7.1.2, or later, and its prerequisites. Refer to Software Announcement 200-269 , dated August 8, 2000, for details.

  • EIP Web client access, requires WebSphere™ V3.5 Standard Edition or Advanced edition and its prerequisites

The Full Package installation requires Panagon Image Services Toolkit (WAL) Release 3.5.0 (plus the latest fixes available).

Limitations

  • Supports search and retrieval functions only.
  • The following limitations exist due to the thread unsafe limitation of the Panagon Image Services Toolkit (WAL) 3.5.0 API:
    • Supports only one native Panagon Images Services (IDMIS) connection per application process. However, multiple IDMIS datastore document classes (entities) can multiplex on the active connection if they share the same IDMIS User ID and password.
    • In any given EIP environment, only a single IDMIS datastore can be supported in a federated search and in an EIP schema mapping.
