Description

Content Manager CommonStore for Exchange Server will save customers time by providing an archive for e-mail, dramatically reducing administrative efforts in managing e-mail server growth, while shortening user search time, especially across e-mail users.

This will also save customers money by reducing operational expenses for ever-expanding e-mail servers and DASD to handle growth of e-mail. Centrally administered e-mail archives automatically off-loads aging items in batches, based on administrator-defined profiles and parameters.

Content Manager CommonStore for Exchange Server will improve security controls over critical business documents in the form of e-mail, and provide long-term access to critical e-mail business correspondence and documentation.

Efficient, Long-Term Storage

The sheer volume of information managed with Microsoft Exchange Server is growing daily. E-mail and business documents are generated by the thousands every day. You need to retain much of this information. Microsoft Exchange Server users must quickly access a document days or even years old. For long-term storage, IBM has a powerful, easy-to-use archive solution for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

Your Unique Archive Solution

Content Manager CommonStore for Exchange Server connects the fast growing leading messaging and groupware platform, Microsoft Exchange Server, with the industry-leading Content Manager, Content Manager OnDemand, or Tivoli Storage Manager.

Off-load attachments and e-mail messages from your existing Exchange Server to an external archive. Keep the Microsoft Exchange Server messages online and archive just the cumbersome file attachments. Regardless of your archiving strategy with CommonStore, you benefit from smaller Exchange Server capacity requirements and improved Exchange Server performance.

Outlook Desktop Convenience

Forget laborious searches in paper files or microfilm archives. All archived documents are still at your fingertips. When you need an archived e-mail or attachment, retrieve it electronically using your Outlook 2000 client. Through your Outlook desktop interface, you can conveniently retrieve virtually any attachment, such as:

  • Scanned images
  • Word processor files
  • Spreadsheets

Productivity and Other Benefits

Content Manager CommonStore for Exchange Server empowers you to improve information handling. Business documents are stored and made available through Exchange Server selectively and securely everywhere in the network, even worldwide.

  • Higher productivity — Exchange Server documents, archived and retrieved within seconds, are immediately available even after several years. Your operations are more efficient. Your cycle times are shorter. Your business is more competitive. With all of this working for you, you can give your customers better service.
  • Faster performance — Managing the growth of your Exchange Server improves the performance of your system.
  • Secure documents — E-mails and attachments are stored securely and safely in an external archive, protected against unauthorized access.
  • Storage capacity — Optical disk jukeboxes and tape libraries can store billions of documents on a single storage device.
  • Operational costs — Reduces the cost of server maintenance, archive administration, and storage on your Exchange 2000 systems.
  • Little or no training — Seamless integration with your existing Outlook desktop applications means your Exchange Server users can use the archive system right away.

Sophisticated Document Management

Content Manager CommonStore is a sophisticated solution for Exchange Servers for mail archiving. You might need all e-mail available online, but do you need to keep all attachments available? Attachments consume a major amount of storage in mail applications. You can choose to archive complete mail documents or offload only file attachments. With a click, you can retrieve the archived documents immediately.

Document Integrity

Content Manager CommonStore can store Exchange Server e-mail items in native Exchange format.

You can extract an e-mail document from the archives and restore it to your operative Outlook desktop again as a Exchange e-mail. The document is restored in its original form.

Forget About the Size of Your Exchange Server File

With CommonStore, all archiving functions can be automated through central administration. CommonStore processes e-mail and attachments eligible for archiving and automatically off-loads the Server. When you need them again later, just click retrieve. CommonStore immediately retrieves the files from the archive and either just for display or reattaches them to the mail document.

This program is EuroReady.

For more information on the implications of the euro, visit the IBM euro Web site at:

EuroReady Products

IBM considers an IBM product to be EuroReady if the product, when used in accordance with its associated documentation, is capable of correctly processing monetary data in the euro denomination and of respecting the euro currency formatting conventions (including the euro sign). This assumes that all other products (for example, hardware, software, and firmware) that are used with this product are also EuroReady. IBM hardware products that are EuroReady may or may not have an engraved euro sign key on their keyboards.

Currently, EuroReady status applies primarily to IBM products specific to the EMU countries. Products that are not specific to these countries are deemed to be "not ready" for euro unless otherwise stated in the product's country-specific specifications.

IBM Hardware Ready

IBM supplies certain IBM products which include third-party software (pre-loaded or not) and/or third-party attached hardware. In these instances, IBM is not in a position to assert that these third-party products are, in themselves, EuroReady.

Therefore, such IBM products will be designated as Hardware ready.

EuroReady Solutions

IBM considers a solution to be EuroReady when the solution providers have:

  • Analyzed the euro requirements, including the need to comply with relevant EC rules
  • Built in appropriate function

and can clearly demonstrate this by:

  • Detailing euro related requirements
  • Describing how these will be implemented in the solution
  • Declaring when the implementation will be generally available

The euro capabilities of a EuroReady solution will be clearly identified as features of the solution specification, as described in the contracts document.
