Version 2 Release 1 (V2.1) of Tivoli® Manager for DB2® enhances DB2 database management with the Tivoli Management Framework. New functionality provides support for Tivoli Management Agent (TMA) endpoints; thus, increasing the scalability of the product.

Tivoli Manager for DB2 focuses on monitoring DB2 servers, task scheduling, and automated task execution on many distributed platforms. Based on Tivoli's scalable management capabilities, Tivoli Manager for DB2 is the ideal management tool for DB2 database environments.

V2.1 of Tivoli Manager for DB2 has new and exciting function that can accelerate DB2 users' management of their databases. Specifically:
End of Support
Based on the Tivoli end of support policy, Tivoli support for V1.1 of Tivoli Manager for DB2 will be discontinued 12 months after the planned availability of V2.1.
DB2 Systems Management
Tivoli Manager for DB2 provides DB2 systems management on the Tivoli Management Framework. Using the Tivoli management subscription paradigm, Tivoli Manager for DB2 can provide the database administrator with the necessary controls to manage hundreds of DB2 servers from one console. Tivoli Manager for DB2 can provide monitoring and automated task execution for the DB2 instance on AIX®, Sun Solaris, Windows NT®, Windows 2000, and OS/2. It can also enable users to monitor database replication execution environments.
Tivoli Manager for DB2 uses the Tivoli Management Framework, the functions of Tivoli Distributed Monitoring, and optionally, the Tivoli Enterprise Console® (TEC) to deliver DB2 monitoring with the same look and feel that you expect with Tivoli applications. This minimizes the learning involved to become proficient and productive. Tivoli Manager for DB2 takes advantage of common services provided by the Tivoli Management Framework such as:
This means that data provided by one application can be shared with other applications. For example, user information set up by a Tivoli security application can be used by Tivoli Manager for DB2 so that the administrator does not have to duplicate information.
Besides monitoring DB2 instances, DB2 databases, and data replication, Tivoli Manager for DB2 includes three task libraries to enable the database administrator to schedule and execute DB2 utilities. The administrator can also use these task libraries to automate responses to monitored events and to execute several basic functions at the instance and database object level.
Enhanced Management Capabilities
Tivoli Manager for DB2 now utilizes the support of Tivoli Management Agent (TMA), which can allow hundreds of database endpoints to be managed with ease.
Improved management functionality can allow autodiscovery of DB2 databases on selected endpoints. Enhanced integration with DB2's control center can provide the ability to directly reference the appropriate database object from the Tivoli desktop. Database administrators are enabled to delegate routine, predictable tasks to IT operations personnel and lower skilled administrators. This allows database administrators to concentrate on the more complex and critical tasks of:
A new client connectivity function has been added for DB2 clients. The
client connectivity function is a new task that provides the Tivoli
administrator with the ability to test if a specific client can access a
given database server.

Tivoli Manager for DB2 uses the security and auditability features of the operating system software and the Tivoli Management Framework.
