Description

WCS, MPe is a comprehensive e-marketplace platform based on patented, best-of-breed IBM technologies and components. It accommodates the marketmakers' need to establish high-performance, full-function, scalable e-marketplaces on the Internet efficiently and effectively.

Adherence to open standards, a modular architecture, and a high degree of configurability and customizability ensure fast time to market for new features and valuable services to meet the dynamic needs of growing e-marketplaces.

This solution combines ease and speed of development with adaptability and versatility.

V4.2 brings the following function/benefits:

  • An English Windows NT version of the program simplifies support of your development environment.1 Along with the AIX Production version of the program, the new program package for WCS, MPe V4.2 includes the following Windows NT version of products to support the development environment:
    • MPe Developers Version for the Windows NT Operating System in English
    • WCS V4.1
    • DB2 Universal Database® (UDB) V6.1.0.6
    • DB2® UDB Extenders V6.1
    • Net.Data® V6.1
    • WebSphere Application Server V3.02
    • SecureWay® Directory V3.1.1.5
    • IBM HTTP Server V1.3.6.2
    • JDK V1.1.7
    • VisualAge® for Java™ V3.02 Enterprise Edition

  • Wireless function enabled within the auction and exchange sub-components now enables entry of an alternate e-mail address for notification when you win an auction or have a position within an exchange met. Using this feature, you will stay in contact with market activities whether in the office or on the road. You will be able to:
    • Access your user and organization profile while traveling
    • Place bids/offers in an exchange and receive notifications on specific trading activities from your wireless device

Additionally, WCS, MPe detects that you are on a wireless device instead of a PC and alters the user interface flow accordingly.

  • The new parametric search function seamlessly integrates querying with result browsing so the user simultaneously sees the current query and the results in a single view. Users specify attributes they want to use in searching or comparing product descriptions or offerings and then interactively refine the search to quickly drill down to the exact match desired. From the search results list, you can view the full details of a selected item or request an on-screen ranking of the product compared to others in its category.

  • Customers who use Intuit Quick Books will now have the ability to have order information automatically exported to Quick Books using a new utility in V4.2.

  • A WebSphere Payment Manager bridge for WCS, MPe is now available to provide payment management functions including payment cards (credit, debit, purchase, procurement, private cards). Our engagement team is enabled to provide services for implementing the Payment Manager bridge in your environment if you require assistance.2

  • Reverse auction functionality simplifies the procurement process by enabling buyers to post descriptions of goods or services they require so that multiple sellers can bid on the contract.2

  • User documentation has been expanded to assist with marketplace implementation, customization, and administration. Additionally, an instructional guide2 for integrating Lotus Sametime into the marketplace has been developed to assist marketplace managers in the implementation of real-time communication/collaboration methods.

  • Installation utilities have been improved to simplify implementation of your marketplace.
1
The development environment is provided in the English language only on NT. If a translated development environment is desired, the AIX platform should be used as the development environment.
2
Until the June 15, 2001, national language release of MPe, items will be initially available via download from a secured Web site used exclusively for new MPe V4.2 functions. The location, user ID, and password for this Web site may be obtained upon purchase or upgrade to MPe V4.2 in the CD Booklet and README FIRST file contained within the product media.

Product Positioning

This offering provides the essential elements for a sellside-oriented e-marketplace, and is suitable for both independent trading exchanges, and private marketplaces established by enterprises wanting to improve flows amongst suppliers. Primary customers include e-marketplace opportunities with minimal back-end integration, language-specific, price-sensitive, or quick time to implement requirements.

The primary focus of V4.2 is to improve product usability and provide for easier installation of WCS, MPe. Additional elements specific to V4.2 include enhanced search capability, plug-in support for wireless, reverse auctions, payment functions, and a Windows NT Developers Environment.

Statement of Direction

WCS, MPe will continue to evolve to ensure it continues to offer the functionality required to operate industry-leading e-markets. The focus will continue to be on enterprise account functionality, including further work in contract, order and payments management, and advancing dynamic trading capabilities. Industry vertical-specific requirements are also planned for future versions. Working with ISVs, additional features will be added to expand functionality and applications in such areas as logistics and e-services management. The commitment to open standards-based architecture will continue to permit ease of customization to support new value-added capabilities and services. Integration support will be a priority to ensure success in driving supplier enablement (using WCS) and intermarket trading. Establishing versioning parity of WCS and WCS, MPe is imperative to optimize interoperability between companies operating MPe and WCS.

Ordering Information

MPe is licensed and charged per processor. An upgrade price is available for those customers currently licensed for WCS, MPe V4.1. Upgrades may be acquired up to the current level of use authorized for WCS, MPe V4.1.

AIX Production Server License

  • Licenses must be purchased for all the processors on all the servers or nodes on which all or any part of the program is running, where the program comprises all the server elements (WCS commerce server, Web server, application server, DB2 Universal Database® [UDB] server) as defined in the license information.
  • As an exception to the above, when the architectural choice of the MPe implementation is to put the database server on a backend machine that runs no other code of the MPe program, the customer may choose to license this server with DB2 UDB EE processor licenses instead of MarketPlace processor licenses.
  • MPe licenses must be purchased for all processors of staging servers, and test servers if any are implemented (and AIX servers used for development purposes, if any).
  • When MPe is installed on a backup server, it need not be separately licensed if the server is switched off, or if it is switched on but idle. It need not be separately licensed if the backup server is idle, but subject to instant startup by a high-availability system (for instance, HACMP) which monitors the production server and network for failure. It must, however, be separately licensed and charged if the code on the backup server is doing work. "Doing Work" includes, for example, production, development, program maintenance, and testing. It also could include other activities such as mirroring of transactions, updating of files, synchronization of programs, data, or other resources (for example, active linking with another machine, program, database, or other resource.)
  • For purchases outside of the terms of the Passport-Advantage agreement, processor license entitlements can either be acquired with the physical program package or as media-less Proofs of Entitlement (PoE).
  • There is no per-merchant or other client charge for MPe.

Windows NT Developers Version: The Windows NT Developers version is delivered in English as part of WCS, MPe V4.2 and is licensed for use only as a development environment and only on condition that at least one AIX MPe Server has been licensed by the customer. The Windows NT Developers version is not a supported production environment and is also not warranted to support production. Within the NT Development environment, there are no per-processor constraints and no per-user constraints.

For the Production AIX Environment: Each valid PoE to the program authorizes you to install and use the program, or any part of the program on one processor. You must acquire a PoE for each use of the program and for each processor. For example, an additional staging server or review server requires the use of a separate copy of the program, so it requires an additional PoE. A separate database server (using the DB2 UDB component of this program) on another processor also requires an additional PoE. PoEs may be acquired separately for each of these products or as multiple PoEs for this program. Consult the system requirements section and MarketPlace Edition Configuration Capacity Planning Guide for information regarding processor requirements for production environments.

For the Windows NT Development Environment: Each valid PoE to the program authorizes multiple users within the licensed company's organization to install and use the program, or any part of the program, in a non-production environment. This is on condition that at least one WCS MPe AIX Processor has been licensed. A non-production environment is one that is used for the development and testing, but not for the deployment of the program.

License information for this product is contained on the product CDs.

Consult the IBM Software License Agreements Web site for a complete copy of the MarketPlace Agreement License Information:

Following is specific terminology regarding use authorization for DB2:

The program includes portions of DB2 UDB. You are authorized to install and use these components only in association with your licensed use of the WebSphere MPe for the storage and management of data used or generated by the program, and not for other data-management purposes. For example, this license does not include inbound connections to the database from other applications for queries or report generation. You are authorized to install and use these components only with and on the same machine as the WebSphere MPe.

An unrestricted license for DB2 V6.1 Enterprise Edition is available as listed below with DB2 part numbers:
