Overview

In today's fast moving 24/7/365 business climate, availability often is the most crucial component of any IT environment. Maximizing the availability of critical services is imperative for effectively competing and for maximizing the Return on Investment of the IT infrastructure.

Tivoli® Distributed Monitoring can help solve this problem. This V3.7 release of Distributed Monitoring adds improvements to your ability to monitor key resources and also enhances the best practices support. It allows you to apply best practices out-of-the-box to automate the task of monitoring essential system resources, to detect bottlenecks and potential problems, and to automatically recover from critical situations which can save system administrators from manually scanning through extensive performance data.

Distributed Monitoring can also provide seamless integration with other Tivoli Availability solutions, including Tivoli Business System Manager and Tivoli Enterprise Console®, to provide a true End-to-End Availability solution.

Key Prerequisites

Tivoli Distributed Monitoring requires Tivoli Management Framework V3.6.5, or later.

Description

The new features of Tivoli Distributed Monitoring V3.7 include:

  • Pre-configured out-of-the-box Automated Best Practices utilizing Resource Models for managing critical business objects in Enterprise environments
  • Flexibility to modify Resource Models to match specific requirements
  • Capability of distributing to thousands of systems with a single action
  • Ability to correlate real-time information at the endpoint for root-cause analysis
  • Automatic corrective or preventive actions for problem resolution or prevention
  • Both real-time and short historical data for any workstation can be viewed from a centralized Health Console
  • A Workbench which provides an integrated environment specifically for creating, debugging, and packaging either your own resource models or those pre-packaged with the product
  • A set of sample Resource Models for use with the Workbench, including Microsoft™ Exchange Server Resource Models for detecting problems with Microsoft Exchange server resources and services

The above new features are currently available only on Windows NT™ and Windows™ 2000.

Tivoli requires Tivoli Management Framework V3.6.5, or later and runs on the following software platforms:

  • Windows 2000 (gateway-managed node and endpoint only)

  • AS/400® (endpoint only)

Packaging Tivoli Distributed Monitoring is distributed with:

  • International Program License Agreement (Z125-3301)
  • License Information document (LC23-4474)
  • Multiple CD-ROMs for distributed platforms
  • 4-mm tape or 3480 tape cartridge when ordering features for OS/390® platform

Security, Auditability, and Control

Tivoli Distributed Monitoring use the security and auditability features of the operating system software and the Tivoli Management Framework.

The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

Ordering Information

Basic License: For ordering information on the base program, refer to Software Announcement 200-017 , dated February 15, 2000. If you require OS/390 platform support for your Distributed Monitoring solution, refer to Software Announcement 200-199 , dated June 27, 2000, and Software Announcement 200-100 dated April 25, 2000.

End of Support: Tivoli support for the 3.6 release of Tivoli Distributed Monitoring on the distributed platforms (not OS/390) will be discontinued 12 months after the general availability of the 3.7 release.

Terms and Conditions

Agreement: IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA), IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Programs and Support (IIAAPS), IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Support (IAAS), with the Attachment for Support and its Addendum for Tivoli Systems, and an order form.

Transferable: Applies except when support is in effect

Limited Warranty Applies: Yes

Guarantee: Two months
