Description

Message Center for DirectTalk V6.4

Message Center for DirectTalk V6.4 is a flexible, unified messaging system for the AIX platform operating on pSeries (RS/6000) systems. Connectivity with telephone networks is provided through the IBM ARTIC960RxD Digital Trunk (PCI) adapter, DTXA (#7026-6310), which is now supported with DirectTalk for AIX (5765-B81) in the newer range of pSeries System models 7026 F80, H80 and the B80.

Message Center for DirectTalk V6.4 may also be used with the IBM Digital Trunk Quad adapter, DTQA (#6309) and IBM 9295 or 9291 Trunk Processors, for those customers still utilizing them. Product usage is via messaging mailboxes. Optional fax and e-mail support is available.

Message Center for DirectTalk provides unified messaging management of voicemail, fax, and e-mail.

Enhancements in Message Center for DirectTalk V6.4 include:

  • All new function released in Program Temporary fixes since the last product release:
    • Rebranding of the product to IBM message Center for DirectTalk
    • Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory interface: a new custom server enabling state tables to query an LDAP directory in the TCP/IP network.
    • Menu pause function: subscribers can now temporarily pause the voice menus being spoken to them (perhaps while they momentarily do something else)
    • Alternatives to touch-tone input: Message Center now offers the option to transfer to an operator if it detects pulse tones.
  • A new fax custom server to provide interface enablement for the Brooktrout TR114 fax board operating with the IBM DTXA trunk adapter (#6310) and the IBM AIX drivers for fax support. Faxes are retrieved/sent in .TIFF format. Fax support within Message Center V6.3, provided by the IBM Services Customized Fax Server based on IBM SPN-256 adapter card is withdrawn from marketing, and is replaced by fax support with the Brooktrout TR114/P16S fax board, and IBM AIX Drivers for Brooktrout Fax. The Brooktrout TR114 fax card is available from Brooktrout Corporation, contact Richard Hamilton at Brooktrout, UK, telephone +44 0771-548-6694.
  • IBM is working with selected IBM Business Partners to provide additional supply channels for the Brooktrout Fax card with the IBM Message Center software.
  • Enhanced Web interface: providing a broader scope of subscriber actions across the Web. Subscribers can:
    • Reply to voice and e-mail messages from the Web interface
    • Forward voice, fax, and e-mail messages from the Web interface
    • Directly add a sender of a message to his/her personal directory
    • Address messages using entries retrieved from the subscribers personal directory or information on an LDAP server
  • New Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) interface — enables subscribers to view e-mail on a WAP phone over a WAP interface, and/or change mailbox preferences by navigating through a WAP menu
  • Message Center Java Beans API — a new API to enable interfaces such as WAP and enhanced Web
  • Telephony portal — subscribers who do not have messaging mailboxes can be set up to receive and retrieve messages via the telephone. For these users, all voice, fax and e-mail messages are located on the e-mail server and all the details of the users profile are retrieved from an LDAP server.
  • LDAP client support — subscribers can use an LDAP server to help manage their voice and e-mail messages.
    • Filtering e-mail messages
    • Composing and sending a voice message
    • Replying to voice or e-mail messages
    • Forwarding a voice or e-mail message
  • POP3 e-mail server interface — subscribers can access e-mails on a POP3 server in addition to currently supported IMAP4 servers. Subscribers will be able to listen to their e-mails via the Text to Speech converter when dialing in over the phone as well as viewing their e-mail over the Web.
  • E-mail security enhancement — subscribers will have restricted access to confidential e-mails read from a TTS converter over the telephone.
  • National Language Support — onscreen messages and publications are translated into the following languages: U.S./UK English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Korean. All are shipped with the product code on one CD.
  • High Availability Cluster Multiprocessor (HACMP) and Signalling System 7 (SS7) environment: Message Center V6.4 has been tested in a DirectTalk for AIX (5765-B81) SSI environment with SS7 connectivity to the networks.

Euro Currency

This program is EuroReady.

For more information on the implications of the euro, visit the IBM euro Web site at:

EuroReady Products

IBM considers an IBM product to be EuroReady if the product, when used in accordance with its associated documentation, is capable of correctly processing monetary data in the euro denomination and of respecting the euro currency formatting conventions (including the euro sign). This assumes that all other products (for example, hardware, software and firmware) that are used with this product are also EuroReady. IBM hardware products that are EuroReady may or may not have an engraved euro sign key on their keyboards.

Currently, EuroReady status applies primarily to IBM products specific to the EMU countries. Products that are not specific to these countries are deemed to be "not ready" for euro unless otherwise stated in the product's country-specific specifications.

IBM Hardware Ready

IBM supplies certain IBM products which include third party software (pre-loaded or not) and/or third party attached hardware. In these instances IBM is not in a position to assert that these third party products are, in themselves, EuroReady.

Therefore, such IBM products will be designated as Hardware ready.

EuroReady Solutions

IBM considers a solution to be EuroReady when the solution providers have:

  • Analyzed the euro requirements, including the need to comply with relevant EC rules
  • Built in appropriate function

and can clearly demonstrate this by:

  • Detailing euro related requirements
  • Describing how these will be implemented in the solution
  • Declaring when the implementation will be generally available

The euro capabilities of a EuroReady solution will be clearly identified as features of the Solution specification as described in the contracts document.

Technical Information

Specified Operating Environment

Hardware Requirements

  • Message Center requires an IBM pSeries(RS/6000®) system with direct attachment to telephone networks via the ARTIC960RxD Digital Trunk adapter (DTXA) or via the Digital Trunk Quad adapter and 9295 or 9291 Trunk Processors.

Fax Support Option requires a Brooktrout TR114/P16S fax board to be installed in the pSeries system near to the DTXA trunk adapter and connected to it via an ScBus top card connector cable.

  • Contact your IBM representative for information on suitable hardware and software Text-to-Speech technologies that can be used with Message Center e-mail Support Option.

Additional New Support in pSeries Systems: DirectTalk® for AIX (5765-B81) is now supported with the DTXA PCI trunk adapter (#6310) in the pSeries System 7026-B80. The DTXA trunk adapter may be installed in slots 3, 4, 5 only.

Enhancements to Support for Geotel Feature: The "support for Geotel" feature of DirectTalk for AIX, 5765-B81 0534, is enhanced to enable a DirectTalk system to communicate with a Cisco ICM (formally known as Geotel) complex. IBM Program Temporary Fix (ptf) U474533 is required. This allows DirectTalk to make use of Cisco ICM features such as load balancing and call-routing functionality. This new version of the Geotel custom server enables the voice response unit (VRU) and intelligent call router (ICR) to communicate using the Service Control Interface as well as the Event Data Feed and Call Routing Interfaces that were supported in previous versions.

The Service Control interface enables an ICR Script to determine the call handling steps that will be performed by a VRU. The interface will allow an ICR script to control calls arriving at a VRU. The calls may have been pre-routed to the VRU by the ICR router, or routed to the VRU by other means. A Service Control dialogue can be defined as a conversation between the VRU and the ICR router that consists of one or more related call control transactions. A Service Control Dialogue provides the context under which the transactions will be performed. Once a Service Control dialogue has been established, the ICR Router will control the VRU call handling via an ICR script.

Ordering Information

Ordering Message Center

Message Center for DirectTalk V6.4 comprises program code and messaging mailboxes, with two optional features, Fax Support Option and e-mail Support Option, shipped on a single CD.

Customers ordering the Fax Support Option will automatically receive the no-charge feature, IBM AIX Drivers for Brooktrout, shipped on a single CD. The Brooktrout TR114/P16S fax board is also required, and may be ordered directly from the Brooktrout Corporation. Contact your IBM representative for further information.

Message Center has charge units for the program code (server install) and charge units for its use (messaging mailboxes). The two options, Fax Support Option and e-mail Support Option, also have charge units for server install and use. The options are shipped on the same CD as the program code. Licensing is with PoE.

Ordering Rules

Initial orders must include Message Center server install, supply media, asset registration 9001, and some number of mailboxes.

A Message Center Messaging mailbox is a prerequisite for each Option mailbox ordered.

Mailboxes are ordered from tiers, where each unit of 1 is equivalent to 1,000 mailboxes (designated by "k"):

  • 1-9 k (equivalent to 1,000-9,000 mailboxes)
  • 10-49 k
  • 50-99 k
  • 100-249 k
  • 250+ k
  • 250 k feature pack

To order Options, order the Option server install, the required number of Option mailboxes, and the supply media code.

Only one Asset registration 9001 is required on each order.

Also, order the same number of prerequisite Message Center Messaging mailboxes.

For further system installations, order additional Message Center Server installs.

Ordering Example: If 220,000 messaging mailbox licenses are required, order quantity 1 Message Center Server Install, media supply feature, asset registration 9001, and a quantity of 220 of the order feature number from the 100-249 k messaging mailbox tier. For very large mailbox quantities, order the required number of 250 feature packs. For example, to order 625,000 mailbox licenses, order 2 x 250 k feature packs plus quantity 125 from the 250+ user license tier.

To order options, you must order an equivalent number of Message Center messaging mailboxes. For example, to order 1000 fax options and 1000 e-mail options, you would order:

  • Quantity 1 Message Center Server Install, media supply feature, asset registration 9001, and a quantity 1 of the order feature number from the 1-9 k messaging mailbox tier
  • Quantity 1 Fax Support Option Server Install, media supply feature, and a quantity 1 of the order feature number from the 1-9 k Fax Support mailbox tier
  • Quantity 1 e-mail Support Option Server Install, media supply feature, and a quantity 1 of the order feature number from the 1-9 k e-mail Support mailbox tier

Ordering Maintenance and Support

To order Maintenance and Support, specify 5648-C64, and asset registration 9001, and the applicable Maintenance and Support charge feature numbers from the table below. Once Maintenance and Support are ordered, the charges will automatically renew annually unless support is cancelled by the customer.

If Maintenance and Support are desired, Maintenance and Support feature numbers must be ordered for every installed license of this product.

If multiple server install licenses are purchased, you must purchase Maintenance and Support for each one. The quantity of the billable Maintenance and Support feature numbers must be equal to the number of installed product and mailbox licenses. Neither the Standard nor the Extended Maintenance and Support Option is transferable among Universal Access products.

If an upgrade from Standard to Extended Maintenance and Support is desired, an MES order must be entered to discontinue the Standard Annual Maintenance and Support Option feature numbers and to add the Extended Annual Maintenance and Support Option feature numbers.

Under this agreement, customers will be eligible for future releases at no charge. The upgrade will be shipped free of charge. There will be no "upgrade feature numbers" to order the upgrade.

Note:

  1. Ordering feature numbers are unchanged from the previous release, and are provided in this announcement for ease of reference. Feature names are slightly modified to facilitate ease of use and readability.
  2. In the tables of ordering feature numbers listed below, for all use-tiers, unit of 1 = 1,000 mailboxes. This is denoted by the symbol "k...mbx". Minimum mailbox order quantity = 1,000 mailboxes.
