Tivoli Management Framework V3R7
Tivoli Management Framework provides the base services for communication, distribution, authentication, and authorization as well as the management infrastructure used by other Tivoli applications.

Using Tivoli applications, administrators can distribute desktop and client-server applications, automate system inventories, monitor configuration changes, and manage the software life cycle.
Tivoli Software Distribution V4.0 is an application for installing and configuring software across homogeneous or multiplatform enterprise networks. It can deploy new applications, update existing software with newer versions, and synchronize software releases on distributed systems. The remote, receiving systems can be configured with UNIX®, Windows NT, NetWare, Windows 98, Windows 95, or OS/2® operating systems.
Tivoli Software Distribution V4.0 introduces the Software Package Editor , a package preparation facility that provides several ways to create and edit software packages for distribution. The Software Package Editor makes use of a simplified single file format, called the Software Package , for content packaging. Software packages can be generated by different means, including:
All of the techniques used to create software packages are based on the single file format of the Software package. Therefore, packages that are created automatically by AutoPack are identical to packages created manually by the Software Package Editor.
With Tivoli Software Distribution, you establish a central point of control for automated software distribution. Through use of Variables , which allow you to make the software package more generic, and Conditions , which allow you to define the circumstances under which a specific action will take place, you expand the flexibility of the software package. This eliminates the need to create a different package for each type of platform within your enterprise. These powerful tools allow you to make good use of your time and resources.
In addition, Tivoli Software Distribution supports common third party packaging formats, and content prepared in these formats and their associated utilities and response files can be incorporated within the Software Package .
Tivoli Software Distribution, utilizing the multiplexed distribution services of Tivoli Management Framework V3R7, performs asynchronous, simultaneous delivery of large amounts of data to multiple target systems. This enables you to perform rapid and optimal software distributions.
Tivoli Software Distribution supports operating system upgrades for the Microsoft Windows operating system family, and eliminates the need to create scripts and programs to configure an application. By simply incorporating the required actions in the software package you are installing, the package performs such actions as changing the registry, adding desktop icons, or creating folders and shortcuts.
Through integration with other Tivoli applications, the capabilities available to an administrator are expanded beyond distribution. A system administrator can:

When used in accordance with their associated documentation, they are capable of correctly processing, providing, and/or receiving date data within and between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, provided that all products (for example, hardware, software, and firmware) used with the products properly exchange accurate date data with them.
These programs are not impacted by euro currency.
Tivoli Management Framework, which is packaged with Tivoli core enterprise IT system management applications, provides the infrastructure or base services, that is, communication, authentication, authorization, and distribution used by those applications.
Tivoli Software Distribution is a key application for efficiently and cost-effectively promulgating and maintaining end-user software configurations. It also integrates with other Tivoli applications to provide a complete IT system management suite.

Hardware Requirements Tivoli Servers and Managed Nodes
The following tables list the estimated disk space required for the Tivoli Management Framework. The estimated disk space includes space for the Tivoli libraries, binaries, server database, client database, manual pages, and message catalogs.
When binaries and manual pages can be shared from a Network File System (NFS) file server, the disk space required is minimized without affecting performance.
Note: It is strongly recommended that you do not share these files across TMR boundaries. Upgrading to future releases and installing Tivoli service packs cannot be completed on a TMR-by-TMR basis if these files are shared across TMR boundaries.
Windows NT binaries can be shared from a New Technology File System (NTFS) file server with some performance loss. For this reason, the Tivoli server should always have a local copy of the binaries. The database must be locally installed on an NTFS file system.
As each Tivoli product is added to the Tivoli installation, additional disk space will be required. Consult the appropriate application guide for application planning information and disk space requirements.

Tivoli does not distribute or maintain operating system patches from hardware vendors. Contact your hardware vendor for information on obtaining and installing operating system patches. Tivoli Inventory V3R6.2 is a prerequisite for installing and using the Historical Database to update the Tivoli Inventory configuration repository with Software Distribution operations.
Tivoli Event Console V3R6.2 is required for use of TEC integration.

Tivoli Management Framework, V3R7, is interoperable with Version 3.6, Version 3.6.1, Version 3.6.2, Version 3.6.3, and Version 3.6.4.
Tivoli Management Framework Version 3.2 endpoint managers and gateways are not interoperable with Tivoli Management Framework, Version 3.7.
When you upgrade your Tivoli Management Region (TMR) server to Tivoli Management Framework V3R7, the endpoint manager is upgraded.
Note: It is recommended that you immediately upgrade your 3.6 gateways after upgrading your TMR server. You can upgrade 3.6 endpoints using a login_policy script to automatically upgrade an endpoint the first time.

Security, Auditability, and Control
Tivoli Management Framework V3R7 and Tivoli Software Distribution Version 4.0 use the security and auditability features of the operating system platform on which they are installed.
The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.
The products in this announcement are priced according to the Tivoli Value-Based Pricing structure. Refer to Software Announcement 200-017 , dated February 15, 2000.
