  • Extract object definitions from the catalog
  • Generate job control language (JCL) and run DB2 utilities

  • Simplify system administration functions

As the number and complexity of DB2 applications and systems increase, having the right DB2 tools has never been more important.

DB2 Administration Tool is the right tool to help you get the most from your DB2 system. Its comprehensive set of database management functions helps DB2 systems personnel manage your DB2 environment efficiently and effectively by:

  • Saving time in DB2 administration
  • Simplifying routine day-to-day DB2 tasks
  • Increasing your knowledge and understanding of your DB2 system

DB2 Admin supports the functionality of DB2 Version 6 (and earlier) by providing panels and options allowing you to quickly see new pertinent catalog information. DB2 Admin works on a data-sharing-group member level.

DB2 Administration Tool provides usability enhancements, lower overhead costs, better error recovery, and more extensive online help. Highlights included in this version are:

  • The new Alter function lets you to alter the definition of a DB2 table. Your modifications may include:
    • Changing the owner and the name of the table
    • Modifying the definitions of table columns
    • Changing the sequence of the columns in the table
    • Inserting and dropping columns
  • The new Migrate function lets you copy DB2 data to other DB2 systems. Both databases and table spaces can be migrated.
  • A new primary command, SEARCH, allows you to do more sophisticated searches of ISPF tables.
  • A new function permits installation of defined line commands. These commands can be defined to meet your specific needs. An example might be a command that starts another ISPF-based tool with parameters from the row currently displayed.
  • Changes to the SORT command give you more ways to sort your results.

DB2 Administration Tool offers a robust set of database management functions for DB2 systems personnel. As your enterprise expands its DB2 usage and systems environment, you may need to manage multiple complex DB2 systems, perhaps in several locations. DB2 Administration Tool simplifies database administration and allows you to manage these systems more efficiently and effectively.

DB2 Administration Tool is an easy-to-use ISPF panel driven tool, which overviews DB2 system tables and provides relevant DB2 catalog information in a logical format. Designed to be an interactive and intuitive tool to learn and use, DB2 Administration Tool integrates with DB2 utilities and simplifies creation of DB2 utility jobs. Among DB2 Administration Tool's strengths is the extensive support to simplify understanding and analysis of the DB2 catalog, allowing you to act intelligently on the information presented. The abundant DB2 catalog query capabilities in DB2 Admin include:

  • Predefined select criteria (predicates) for most commonly used SELECTs on the catalog
  • Ability to view DB2 objects' authorization and relationships
  • GRANT and REVOKE functions on the objects
  • BIND, REBIND, and FREE functions for selected plans and packages
  • Display of the static SQL for selected Database Request Modules (DBRMs) and packages
  • Display of all indexes and index columns for a table
  • Reuse of DB2 commands

DB2 Administration Tool's power-packed functionality also includes:

  • Display of the DDL for existing views
  • Generation of DB2 utility jobs for selected objects (COPY, REORG, and RUNSTATS for selected TABLESPACEs)
  • Support of DB2 Distributed Database Facilities (DDF) including remote DB2 catalog support, ALIAS support, and Communications Data Base (CDB)
  • Catalog functions optionally running on tables containing a copy of the system catalog
  • Calculation and display of the hit ratios of the buffer pools
  • Functions for administration of the Resource Limit Tables (RLIMIT)
  • Dynamic SQL statement execution without knowing the exact SQL syntax
  • COMMIT/ROLLBACK options issued before each display

  • A quick EXPLAIN function that can show the inserted rows in the PLAN_TABLE
  • Ability to save results of a SQL SELECT as ISPF tables
  • Ability to (re)display the saved tables
