| Description |
2 TB/7200 rpm SATA Disk Drive (#3205)
The 2000 GB (2TB)/7200 rpm SATA Disk Drive feature (#3205) is designed for use with the DCS9900 Model 3S1 SAS/SATA Storage Expansion Unit. Employing 2 TB SATA disk drives in DCS9900 system configurations can enable the physical storage capacity up to a maximum of 2400 TB. The 2 TB/7200 rpm SATA Disk Drive feature (#3205) complements the previously announced 2 TB/5400 rpm SATA disk drive (#3204) for the DCS9900 Model 3S1 Expansion Unit, by offering a 2 TB SATA drive with a higher rotational speed. Some applications may require or run more efficiently with higher rotational speed drives.
600 GB/15,000 rpm SAS Disk Drive (#3234)
The 600 GB/15,000 rpm SAS Disk Drive feature (#3234) is designed for use with the DCS9900 Model 3S1 SAS/SATA Storage Expansion Unit. DCS9900 configurations can be built that scale up to 720 TB using the 600 GB SAS drive.
Internal Hard Drive (IHD) SAS Drive pair (#2310)
The Internal Hard Drive (IHD) SAS Drive Pair feature (#2310) provides a plant-installed pair of SAS disk drives that are mounted internally within the DCS9900 Model CP2 Controller 4U enclosure. The IHD SAS drive pair, working in conjunction with a customer provided UPS system, is designed to provide enhanced data protection for DCS9900 systems with caching enabled, which require controller cache write-back data to be flushed to non-volatile storage during a power event.
Upon a power event, the DCS9900 IHD management software is invoked to help move data from the DCS9900 cache memory to the IHD SAS drive pair before shutting down the DCS9900. When the power event has subsided, DCS9900 IHD backup software assists to help restore cache data, in preparation for restoring system operation of the DCS9900.
The IHD SAS Drive pair feature (#2310) is a "plant-installed" only feature and is not available for field installation. Refer to the Limitations section for more information on this feature.
Acoustic Door for DCS9900 45U rack (#2019)
The Acoustic Door feature (#2019) delivers an acoustic door for the DCS9900 45U rack feature (#2003). This feature is designed to help reduce the noise levels associated with large configurations of disk drives. This is a "plant-installed" only feature and is not available for field installation. Refer to the Limitations section for additional information on this feature.

Limitations
The DCS9900 2 TB/7200 rpm SATA disk drive feature (#3205) and 600 GB/15,000 rpm SATA disk drive feature (#3234) are compatible with the DCS9900 Model 3S1 SAS/SATA Expansion Unit (1269-3S1).
The Internal Hard Drive (IHD) SAS Drive Pair feature (#2310) is designed to provide enhanced data protection for DCS9900 systems with caching enabled, when the DCS9900 is setup and configured with a supported UPS system provided by the customer, as described in the DCS9900 Installation Guide. Customers are responsible for taking into consideration the necessary site planning, configuration, and network infrastructure requirements as described in the DCS9900 Installation Guide.
The following two DCS9900 system configurations which use the 3S1 Storage Expansion Units, exceed IBM's recommended criteria for Acceptable noise levels.
- DCS9900 configuration with Specify feature (#9221) -- One DCS9900 Model CP2 controller with five Model 3S1 SAS/SATA Expansion Units installed in a 45U rack
- DCS9900 configuration with Specify feature (#9222) -- One DCS9900 Model CP2 controller with ten Model 3S1 SAS/SATA Expansion Units installed in a 45U rack
For detailed measurement data, refer to the DCS9900 Noise Declaration document included in the RPQ package for DCS9900 configurations that utilize the 3S1 Storage Expansion Unit. The DCS9900 Noise Declaration document is also available by visiting
Note: Government regulations (such as those prescribed by OSHA or European Community Directives) may govern noise level exposure in the workplace and may apply to you and your DCS9900 Storage System installation. The actual sound pressure levels in your installation depend upon a variety of factors, including the number of racks in the installation; the size, materials, and configuration of the room; the noise levels from other equipment; the room ambient temperature, and employees' location in relation to the equipment. Further, compliance with such government regulations also depends upon a variety of additional factors, including the duration of employees' exposure and whether employees wear hearing protection. IBM recommends that you consult with qualified experts in this field to determine whether you are in compliance with the applicable regulations.
All orders for the DCS9900 Storage System, which includes the DCS9900 Controller Model CP2 (1269-CP2), DCS9900 3S1 SAS/SATA Storage Expansion Unit (1269-3S1), and features must first be approved by ordering mandatory I-listed RPQ 8S0870. Contact your IBM representative to order the I-listed RPQ.
