A 4 Gbps 600 GB/15,000 rpm Fibre Channel (FC) disk drive module (DDM) and a 4 Gbps 600 GB/15,000 rpm encryption-capable FC DDM are available for IBM® System Storage™ DS5020 Disk System and EXP520 Expansion Unit.

The 4 Gbps 600 GB/15,000 rpm FC disk drive is also available for selected System Storage DS4000™ series models.

These new disk drive features provide higher capacity FC and encryptible Fibre Channel disk drives than previously available for the DS5020/DS4000 models:

  • DS5020 Disk System (1814-20A) features
    • DS5020 600 GB/15K 4 Gbps FC DDM feature (#4203)
    • DS5020 Encryption-Capable 600 GB/15K 4 Gbps FC DDM feature (#4403)
  • EXP520 Storage Expansion Unit (1814-52A) features
    • DS5020 600 GB/15K 4 Gbps FC DDM feature (#4203)

Limitations

The DS5020 disk system must be at firmware level 07.60, or later to enable support of the 600 GB/15K 4 Gbps FC and encryptible FC disk drive features.

The DS4700 and DS4800 disk systems must be at firmware level 07.60, or later to enable support of the 4 Gbps FC 600 GB/15K E-DDM.

Before powering up the EXP810 Storage Expansion Unit, follow the installation and setup instructions provided with the unit. The EXP810 requires a minimum number of disk drive modules be installed in the unit before powering up. Refer to the EXP810 Storage Expansion Unit installation and setup instructions shipped with the machine for details.

Planning information

You are responsible for downloading or obtaining from IBM, and installing designated Machine Code (microcode, basic input/output system code (called "BIOS"), utility programs, device drivers, and diagnostics delivered with an IBM machine) and other software updates in a timely manner from an IBM Internet Web site or from other electronic media, and following the instructions that IBM provides. You may request IBM to install Machine Code changes; however, you may be charged for that service.
