Overview
IBM TS3000 System Console (TSSC) is a service tool that provides many service and support functions from a centralized location. These functions include error initiated problem reporting, remote services including remote monitoring support, and wellness checking, which are beneficial to both you and the Service Representative.
The main benefits of TSSC include:
- Remote support enablement
- Reduced telephone line charges
- Faster data offload via broadband call home through Electronic Customer Care (ECC)
- Reduced repair costs
- Improved serviceability
- Better proactive maintenance
To complete the Installation and follow-on Maintenance Service of the 3592 C06, 3952 F05, 3953 FO5 supporting attachment of 3956 CC6/CC7/CS7, 3957 V06/VEA, 3958 DD1/DD3, and 3958 AP1, it is mandatory that a TS3000 is available for attachment at time of installation. The 3584 L22/L23/L32/L52/L53 subsystem can take advantage of the advanced call home capabilities for an open systems environment with the attachment to TSSC.
TSSC can provide remote support for as many as 24 Removable Media Storage System (RMSS) product frames or 43 unique attached tape systems. A RMSS frame reserves a block of 10 IP addresses on the TSSC network. Examples of RMSS product frames include TS7700, TS7720, and TS7650. Some examples of unique attached tape systems are TS3500, TS3400, TS1120, and the 3494 Tape Library.

Description
IBM TS3000 System Console (TSSC) can provide remote support for as many as 24 RMSS product frames or 43 unique attached tape systems. A RMSS frame reserves a block of 10 IP addresses on the TSSC network. Examples of RMSS product frames are TS7700, TS7720, and TS7650. The TSSC is required and mandatory to provide the remote support capabilities for the RMSS product family. All remote support is provided by the TSSC. Remote support capabilities include:
- Call home problem reporting capability with staged, error-specific data gathering for support.
- Call-in capability with authenticated access (via a modem) including file transfer and multiple connections with attached systems simultaneous call home and call-in capability using dual modems and broadband call home.
- Automatic wellness checking for attached systems, with the exception of the 3494 and 3584 machine types.
- Ability to defer certain types of call home activity to specific business hours.
- Automatic archival of log files for most attached tape systems for subsequent support reference.
- Automatic download and storage of new tape drive code images via modem connection.
- Connectivity to the Remote Technical Assistance Information Network (RETAIN®).
- Houses Info Centers for CE reference.
TSSC provides the focal point for local service activities within the data center. The TSSC is attached via 100 Mbps private Ethernet network to each RMSS frame or tape system, allowing for many service functions to be performed at the console. The TSSC provides the following local service configuration tools and applications:
- Ability to telnet to multiple tape systems and simultaneously perform multiple service tasks from the TSSC.
- Graphic user interface for tape system and tape drive service diagnostic utilities.
- Ability to broadcast control unit and tape drive code images to tape systems for subsequent activation from the TSSC.
- Diagnostic tools for verifying communications with attached systems.
- Graphical interface for monitoring the health of the systems, managing the firewall rules of the TSSC, configuring call home rules and settings, and utilizing network tools.
TSSC provides a rack mount version of TSSC for installation. Due to the November 27, 2009, withdrawal from marketing of TS3000 System Console feature #2721 for machine type 3953 and feature #2730 for machine types 3584, 3952, and 3958, IBM is announcing new feature numbers for the TSSC.
Feature #2722 provides the enhanced rack-mountable TSSC, an Ethernet switch and a cable and connectors for connection of one machine to an IBM supplied modem to enable remote enhanced service, and feature #2732 provides a 1U server, keyboard, display, mouse, and Ethernet switch. TSSC includes console upgrade previously provided as feature #2719 (memory upgrade to 2 GB total RAM and a second Ethernet card).
With the introduction of the new TSSC feature #2722 and #2732, in order for IBM to gain remote access to the machine, feature #2733, a new internal homologated modem for approved countries, will be required or you will need to provide an external modem that is supported by the TSSC server for those regions not listed on the qualified country list .
TSSC is available as feature #2722 or #2732 with IBM Enterprise Tape Systems and Controllers 3584 L22/L23/L32/L52/L53, 3952 F05, and 3953 F05 supporting attachment of 3952 C06, 3956 CC6/CC7/CS7, 3957 V06/VEA, 3958-DD1, 3958-DD3, and 3958-AP1.

IBM Electronic Services
IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.
The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The Electronic Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
