The IBM® XIV Storage System is enhanced with additional capacity configuration options.

The XIV Storage System Model A14 is now available in a six module configuration. This configuration is field-upgradeable with additional modules to achieve configurations with a total of nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, or fifteen modules. The resulting configuration can subsequently continue to be upgraded with one or more additional modules, up to the maximum of fifteen modules.

The XIV Storage System also has a variety of interoperability enhancements, including support for:

  • Oracle
  • Symantec
  • Microsoft®
  • Clustering, including IBM PowerHA
  • Virtualization, including IBM PowerVM™ and IBM SAN Volume Controller

The IBM XIV Storage System (2810-A14) requires an IBM XIV Storage System Software V10 license (Product ID 5639-XXA). The quantity of base XIV Storage System Software features must equal the total quantity of interface modules and data modules in the XIV Storage System.

The six module configuration requires IBM XIV Storage System Software Version 10.0.1, or later.

Interoperability enhancements require IBM XIV Storage System Software Version 10.0.1.a, or later.

Field upgrades to the six module configuration require IBM XIV Storage System Software Version 10.0.1.b, or later.

Additional capacity configurations

The XIV Storage System Model A14 is now available in a six module configuration consisting of three interface modules (feature number 1100) and three data modules (feature number 1105). This configuration is designed to support the same capabilities and functions as the current 15 module XIV Storage System with the IBM XIV Storage System Software V10. It has all of the same auxiliary components and ships in the same physical rack as the 15 module system.

The six module configuration is field-upgradeable with additional interface modules and data modules to achieve configurations with a total of nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, or fifteen modules. The resulting configuration can subsequently continue to be upgraded with one or more additional modules, up to the maximum of fifteen modules.

The IBM XIV Storage System has a variety of interoperability enhancements available with IBM XIV Storage System Software Version 10.0.1.a, or later. These enhancements include:

  • IBM PowerHA Version 5.4.1 and PowerHA Version 5.5 for AIX® V5.3 and V6.1
  • HP MC/ServiceGuard
  • Microsoft Cluster Server Logo for Windows 2003 on x86, x64, and ia64
  • Microsoft Failover Cluster Configuration Program certification for MSCS on Windows 2008
  • NetWare Cluster Services for NetWare v6.5 SP7
  • Sun Solaris Cluster for X86 and SPARC Architectures
  • Veritas Cluster Server V5 for AIX, HP-UX, Linux®, and Solaris
