Feature descriptions
Hardware features
4-Port 4-Gbps PCIe Target (#1030)
This feature provides one PCIe quad-port 4-Gbps HBA for FCP target ports. This adapter may only be used to provide additional target ports; it may not be used to attach storage expansion units. It auto-negotiates connections of 1-Gbps, 2-Gbps, or 4-Gbps. Two SFP multmode optical ports with LC connectors support the following cable lengths:

This feature is being announced for N6040 and N6070 (2858).
Perf Accel Module (#1056)
The Performance Acceleration Module is a PCIe adapter with 16 GB of onboard cache memory. It is designed to augment the system's memory and improve performance with some applications when a configuration has a limited number of disks. This design allows the N series disk configuration to be sized based on capacity, rather than performance requirements.
This feature is being announced for N6040 and N6070 (2858).
450 GB, 15K RPM FC HDD (#4007)
This feature provides one 450 gigabyte 15K RPM Fibre Channel (FC) disk drive.
This feature is being announced for EXN4000 (2863 Model 004).
450 GB, 15K RPM SAS HDD (#4016)
This feature provides one 450 gigabyte 15K RPM Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) disk drive. This feature is being announced for N3300 (2859) and N3600 (2862).
Licensed function indicators
For all licensed function features, the corequisite 2870 feature must be purchased to establish authorization for use of the Licensed Function Indicator before the feature activation code is provided by IBM. You must apply the feature activation codes made available by IBM. These features are also used for maintenance billing purposes.
These features are being announced for N6040 and N6070 (2858).
Note: These features all require Data ONTAP 7.3.0, or later.
FlexScale
This feature provides the software required to support the Performance Accelerator Module (feature #1056) for storage controller configurations.
Gateway features
Licensed function indicator features with the suffix, GW, are intended exclusively to provide gateway function for Axx models.
Disk Sanitization - GW
These features enable the Disk Sanitization licensed function provided you have applied a feature activation code that is made available by IBM.
FlexScale - GW
These features provide the software required to support the Performance Accelerator Module (feature #1056).
Adv. Single Instance Stor-GW
These features are designed to provide block-level deduplication within the entire flexible volume on an IBM N series storage controller that has the NearStore feature number enabled. A-SIS only stores unique data blocks in the flexible volume and creates a small amount of additional metadata in the process. Each block of data has a digital "signature" that is compared to all other signatures in the flexible volume. If an exact byte-for-byte block match exists on the flexible volume, the duplicate block is discarded and its disk space is reclaimed.

Specified operating environment
Hardware requirements
Licensed machine code (LMC)
The N series requires LMC, Data ONTAP 7.1.0, or later. Some N series features and functions may not be available or supported in all environments. Current information on supported environments, prerequisites, and minimum operating systems levels is available at
Current license terms for the machine code, provided with this product, prohibit transfer of the machine code without approval from NetApp.
Licensed functions:
The following licensed functions are required on N series systems:
- Data ONTAP
- CFO or SAN Bundle (dual-node models only)
Licensed functions require the selection of N series licensed function features and the acquisition of the corresponding IBM 2870 function authorization features.
Limitations
Data ONTAP 7.3 does not support either the SnapLock Compliance or SnapLock Enterprise features.
Data ONTAP 7.3, or later is required for:
- 4-Port 4-Gbps PCIe Target adapter card (#1030)
- FlexScale
- FlexScale - GW
- Disk Sanitization - GW
- Adv. Single Instance Stor-GW
Thus, for Data ONTAP 7.3, the SnapLock Compliance and SnapLock Enterprise features are mutually exclusive of features requiring Data ONTAP 7.3.
Planning information
You are responsible for downloading or obtaining from IBM, and installing designated machine code (microcode, basic input/output system code (called BIOS), utility programs, device drivers, and diagnostics delivered with an IBM machine) and other software updates in a timely manner from an IBM Internet Web site or from other electronic media, and following the instructions that IBM provides. You may request IBM to install machine code changes; however, you may be charged for that service.
