The 1 TB SATA disk drive feature of the IBM System Storage™ EXN1000 (2861 Model 001) provides a reduced-cost-per-terabyte (TB) configuration compared to configurations using 500 GB or 750 GB disk drives.
Each EXN1000 can be populated by five to 14 disk drives. The 1 TB drive option provides physical
storage capacity of up to 14 TB for each EXN1000.

| Description |
|
With the addition of the 1 TB SATA disk drive option, the EXN1000 expansion unit can now have a maximum physical storage capacity of up to 14 TB. The aggregate total physical capacity of all drives in the system must be determined so as not to exceed the system maximum.
The maximum physical storage that is supported by each N series storage controller is summarized in the following table. Note that when using smaller drives, the "maximum disk drives" number will apply. In all cases, the "maximum physical capacity" number may not be exceeded.

Software requirements
The 1 TB SATA disk drive requires Data ONTAP 7.2.4, or later.
Limitations: The maximum physical disk storage capacity of some N series storage controllers may not equal the maximum number of supported spindles multiplied by 1 TB. Refer to the Description section for the maximum supported physical storage.
Planning information
You are responsible for downloading or obtaining from IBM, and installing designated Machine Code (microcode, basic input/output system code (called "BIOS"), utility programs, device drivers, and diagnostics delivered with an IBM machine) and other software updates in a timely manner from an IBM Internet Web site or from other electronic media, and following the instructions that IBM provides. You may request IBM to install Machine Code changes; however, you may be charged for that service.
Cable orders: No cables required.
Security, auditability, and control
The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features,
administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communications
facilities.
