Description

The IBM TotalStorage SAN256B Director (2109-M48) is designed to support up to eight 48-port fibre channel switch blades, enabling a single domain director with up to 384 full duplex, auto-sensing ports in a single 14U enclosure. Each port is capable of self-negotiation to the highest speed supported by the attached SAN infrastructure, operating at either 1, 2, 4, or 10 Gb throughput. The 10 Gb speed is limited to ISLs between SAN256B directors. Shortwave laser transceivers support distances of up to 500 m at 1 Gb and up to 300 m at 2 Gb or 150 m at 4 Gb with 50.0u fiber cables. The Director can support up to 500 km at 1 Gbps or 100 km at 4 Gbps at full speed with other extension devices such as DWDM or CWDM.

M48 iSCSI blade: The IBM TotalStorage SAN256B Director M48 iSCSI Blade (#3460) can help satisfy the most demanding availability, performance, manageability, and scalability requirements by delivering feature-rich iSCSI services managed by familiar IBM SAN b-type administrative tools. By delivering these strategic services under a unified management platform, the M48 iSCSI blade is designed to:

  • Enable iSCSI (Ethernet) servers to access storage in IBM b-type fibre channel SANs in a highly integrated, cost-effective manner for storage consolidation
  • Provide high scalability, enabling up to thousands of iSCSI servers to connect to a single SAN256B director
  • Help improve the ROI of the SAN by enabling wider access to storage, optimizing resource utilization, and minimizing capital expenses
  • Simplify server administration and storage allocation while leveraging centralized storage to help improve data security and control
  • Extend new capabilities such as centralized backup or tape vaulting to existing servers in direct attached storage (DAS) environments
  • Help enhance availability by leveraging enterprise-class SAN director services
  • Help increase productivity by using familiar SAN management tools consistent with the overall SAN infrastructure

M48 10 Gb FC blade: The IBM TotalStorage SAN256B Director M48 10 Gb FC blade (#3470) helps satisfy the most demanding performance, manageability, and scalability requirements by delivering 10 Gb ISL services between SAN256B directors. New 10 Gb XFP transceivers support the M48 10 Gb FC blade.

Optional features: The IBM System Storage™ SAN256B Director is enhanced with new selectable options:

  • 10 Gb FC SW XFP (#2510) includes one shortwave 10 Gb XFP transceiver capable of a distance of 150 m.
  • 10 Gb FC LW XFP (#2520) includes one longwave 10 Gb XFP transceiver capable of a distance of 10 km.

Accessibility by people with disabilities

The new features support use by people with disabilities with ports and connectors support connection of industry-standard devices.
