Description

The IBM System Storage DCS9550 Storage System, which is composed of the DCS9550 FC controller and DCS9550 Storage Expansion Unit models 1F1 and 1S1, are new scalable storage offerings designed to address the storage requirements of applications that run on Deep Computing, System p HPC, and System x e1350 Linux Cluster systems.

The DCS9550 controller and DCS9550 Storage Expansion Unit models can scale from 80 to 320 disk drives with physical storage capacities that range from 11.7 to 160 TB.

IBM System Storage DCS9950 controller Model CP1 (1269-CP1): The DCS9550 controller comes in a 4U rack-mounted chassis. It includes dual Fibre Channel controllers with 5 GB cache (2.5 GB cache per controller), eight 4 Gbps Fibre Channel host ports, and twenty 2 Gbps Fibre Channel disk expansion ports. The controller contains redundant, hot-pluggable power supplies and cooling fans for increased reliability and availability. The DCS9550 controller attaches to rack-mounted DCS9550 Storage Expansion Unit models to support up to 320 disk drives, yielding up to 160 TB physical storage capacity, 8192 LUNs, and 512 direct host logins per DCS9550 Storage System.

The DCS9550 Storage System can support managed Quality of Service to help maintain uninterrupted data delivery. It can also source all of its performance from multiple target LUNs or a single target "PowerLUN," reducing the need for host-based striping software. The DCS9550 is designed to incorporate enterprise-class data protection with on-the-fly parity checking on all read I/Os. It also supports hardware-enabled RAID 6, which helps protect data in the event of double disk failure in the same redundancy group. Additionally, the DCS9550 includes block-level virtualization, designed to virtualize storage deployment and system management through LUN aliasing, WWN masking and filtering, or port zoning.

IBM System Storage DCS9550 Storage Expansion Units

DCS9550 1F1 Storage Expansion Unit (1269-1F1): The DCS9550 1F1 Storage Expansion Unit comes in a 3U, rack-mounted, 16-slot Fibre Channel disk enclosure. This model includes one dual FC-2 drive loop, two 2 Gbps SFP interface modules, two hot-swappable power supplies, and two hot-swappable cooling fans. The model 1F1 expansion unit integrates into a 42U 1050 mm deep rack, rack feature (#2002). The Model 1F1 disk expansion unit must be ordered with either eight or 16 Fibre Channel disk drives. The following are the available disk drive features for the Model 1F1. They must not be intermixed within the enclosure:

  • (#3050) 146 GB/10K FC-2 disk drive
  • (#3052) 300 GB/10K FC-2 disk drive

DCS9550 1S1 Storage Expansion Unit (1269-1S1): The DCS9550 1S1 Storage Expansion Unit model 1S1 comes in a 3U, rack-mounted, 16-slot SATA disk enclosure. This model includes one dual FC-2 drive loop, two 2 Gbps SFP interface modules, two hot-swappable power supplies, and two hot-swappable cooling fans. The model 1S1 disk expansion unit integrates into a 42U 1050 mm deep rack, rack feature (#2002). The model 1S1 disk expansion unit must be ordered with either eight or 16 SATA disk drives. The following are the available SATA disk drive features for the model 1S1. They must not be intermixed within the enclosure:
