IBM XL C/C++ Advanced Edition V7.0.1 for Linux™ and IBM XL Fortran Advanced Edition V9.1.1 for Linux are enhanced and now support the following Linux distributions:

  • On an IBM eServer® OpenPower™, BladeCenter™ JS20, eServer p5, pSeries®, i5 or iSeries™ system:
    • SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (SLES9) for IBM POWER™
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 4 (RHEL4), IBM eServer iSeries, and IBM eServer pSeries Edition
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 3 Update 3 (RHEL3), IBM eServer iSeries, and IBM eServer pSeries Edition
  • On an Apple Power Mac G5 or Xserve G5 system: Terra Soft Solutions' Y-HPC v20050115 (Y-HPC)

With this update of XL C/C++ Advanced Edition V7.0.1 for Linux and XL Fortran Advanced Edition V9.1.1 for Linux, additional Linux distributions are supported to allow further flexibility in choosing the distribution that fits your needs. These industry standards-based compiler programs, with extensive IBM optimization technology, offer powerful development environments to build 32-bit and 64-bit C/C++ and Fortran applications.

This update of XL C/C++ Advanced Edition V7.0.1 for Linux and XL Fortran Advanced Edition V9.1.1 for Linux also includes support for Vector Multimedia Extension (VMX) with automatic SIMD vectorization. The VMX support is available for SLES9, RHEL4, and Y-HPC running on hardware that supports both VMX and one of the noted Linux distributions.

The IBM Publications Center

The Publications Center is a worldwide central repository for IBM product publications and marketing material with a catalog of 70,000 items. Extensive search facilities are provided. Payment options for orders are via credit card (in the U.S.) or customer number for 50 countries. A large number of publications are available online in various file formats, and they can all be downloaded by all countries free of charge.

The IBM Publications Notification System (PNS) enables subscribers to set up profiles of interest by order number/product number. IBM XL C/C++ Advanced Edition V7.0 for Linux and IBM XL Fortran Advanced Edition V9.1 for Linux have two charge units: per authorized user and per concurrent user.

These are available in fixed order quantities of one authorized user or one concurrent user.

Authorized user

An authorized user is defined as an individual or specific named user authorized to have access to the program or any portion of the program. An authorized user license is required for each distinct person that will access and use the program. You may install the program on more than one machine, provided that you are the only user using it and only one copy of the program is in use at one time. The Proof of Entitlement for this program is evidence of the authorization.

Concurrent user

A concurrent user is defined as any person who accesses and uses the program or any portion of the program within a designated network. The program may be installed on an unlimited number of machines within the designated network. A concurrent user license entitles any user within the designated network to access and use the program as long as the total number of users concurrently accessing and using the program at any one time does not exceed the total number of concurrent user licenses acquired. You must acquire an additional license for each additional concurrent user and/or designated network on which the program is used. The Proof of Entitlement for the program is evidence of the authorization.

Terms and conditions

Agreement: IBM International Program License Agreement. Proofs of Entitlement (PoE) are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

This software license includes Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Software Subscription and Technical Support.

Limited warranty applies: Yes

Warranty: This program has warranty for a minimum of one year from acquisition from IBM or authorized IBM Business Partner. The warranty provided to the customer, for at least one year from acquisition, is access to databases (read Web sites) for program information and FAQs, including any known fixes to defects, which the customer can download or obtain otherwise and install at leisure.

Program technical support: Technical support of a program product will be available for a minimum of three years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Maintenance is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you with access to updates, releases, and versions of the program. Customers will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Money-back guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program, return it within 30 days from the invoice date, to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it, for a refund. This applies only to your first acquisition of the program.

Software Maintenance applies: Yes

Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Software Subscription and Technical Support, is now included in the Passport Advantage Agreement. Installation and technical support for the products announced in this letter is provided by the Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service enhances customer productivity by providing voice and/or electronic access into the IBM support organizations.

IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Maintenance can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option.

While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions; and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, every day of the year. For additional details, consult your IBM Software Support Guide at

Software Maintenance does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under this agreement.

All distributed software licenses include Software Maintenance (Software Subscription and Technical Support) for a period of 12 months from the date of acquisition, providing a streamlined way to acquire IBM software and assure technical support coverage for all licenses.
