IBM Implementation Services for GDPS/PPRC HyperSwap Manager is designed to provide a
lower-cost, entry level GDPS/Peer-to-Peer Remote Copy (PPRC) service that can be upgraded to the
full GDPS/PPRC offering in the future. GDPS/PPRC HyperSwap Manager promotes near continuous
availability of data through the GDPS HyperSwap technology that is designed to mask disk outages
caused by disk maintenance or failures.
Utilizing GDPS/PPRC HyperSwap Manager within your data center is designed to allow your disk data to
remain available to end-user applications during disk subsystem maintenance or disk subsystem
failures. This capability is provided today by the full GDPS/PPRC offering. This new service
expands the GDPS/PPRC HyperSwap capability to clients within a single site.

IBM Implementation Services for GDPS/PPRC HyperSwap Manager is designed to provide you with a
lower-cost, entry-level GDPS/PPRC service that can be upgraded to the full GDPS/PPRC offering in the
future. This service is designed to promote the near continuous availability of data for your
zSeries® through the HyperSwap
technology that is designed to mask disk outages caused by disk maintenance and/or failure.
GDPS/PPRC is designed to provide you with the management of your data replication environment and
automate switching between two copies of data without causing an application outage, thereby
promoting continuous access to data. IBM Implementation Services for GDPS/PPRC HyperSwap Manager
helps simplify the control of the storage environment in a single Sysplex within a physical site or
across two sites at supported distances. In a two-site configuration, this offering provides
disaster recovery capability at the remote site. GDPS/PPRC also provides an effective entry-level
service for your IBM
zSeries
that require high levels of data availability.
IBM Implementation Services for GDPS/PPRC HyperSwap Manager helps simplify implementation by working
with you to get GDPS/PPRC HyperSwap Manager and its prerequisites up and running with limited
disruption to your business. On-site planning, configuration, implementation, testing, and
education will help make your new IBM Implementation Services for GDPS/PPRC HyperSwap Manager
solution accessible in the most efficient manner.

Hardware requirements

GDPS/PPRC HyperSwap Manager requires Peer-to-Peer Remote Copy (PPRC) capable disk subsystems at PPRC
Level 3 technology (disk subsystems that support Extended CQUERY).

If GDPS is running with z/OS® V1.3 through z/OS V1.5, a 9672-G5, 9672-G6, or zSeries is required.
A zSeries is required if GDPS is running on z/OS V1.6, or later.
Software requirements
GDPS/PPRC HyperSwap Manager runs on the currently supported releases of z/OS and z/OS.e. The z/OS
images must be a member of a multisystem sysplex. A Parallel Sysplex® is not required. In
addition, the following software products are required:

IBM Tivoli® System Automation for GDPS/PPRC HyperSwap Manager with NetView®, V1.1, or later
or
-
Tivoli NetView for z/OS V5.1, or later together with one of the following:

IBM Tivoli System Automation for GDPS/PPRC HyperSwap Manager, V1.1 or later
or
-
IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS V2.2, or later
