From conceptual definition to the creation of a detailed preliminary routing, Systems Routing 2 allows designers to continually iterate their routing definitions. It supports all routing disciplines, including conveyors, ductwork, raceways, piping, and tubing. Users cab fully define "run" definitions and then evolve these designs into actual geometries, such as conveyor ductwork and parts. This evolutionary approach allows designers to move at their own pace when detailing routing designs and allows maximum reuse of previous work. Specific functions include:
Enhanced Product CATIA Circuit Board Design 2 (CBD, 5691-CBD)
Enhanced Products CATIA Generative Assembly Structural Analysis 2 (GAS, 5691-GAS): In Release 3, Generative Assembly Structural Analysis 2 takes advantage of the improvements made to the CATIA Generative Part Structural Analysis Product (GPS) when performing assembly analyses. CATIA Generative Part Structural Analysis 2 (GPS, 5691-GPS): In addition to the enhancements described for GP1, Release 3 delivers a new stress analysis adaptivity capability. This capability improves the accuracy of results by automatically refining the mesh to take local stress distribution into account. New Product CATIA Plant Layout 2 (PLO, 5691-PLO): Plant Layout 2 enables design and engineering users to quickly define conceptual and preliminary plant layouts. General space arrangements, reserved areas, structural grid layouts, circulation flow, plant ingress and egress, and reserved areas/volumes can be quickly are easily produced. All plant spaces/volumes are logically organized in a product hierarchy. Functional zones within the plant, such as electrical or structural, are then defined as one or more grids, areas, or volumes within the hierarchy. Hierarchy areas/volumes for a given usage need not be contiguous or adjacent or even on the same plane; the Product Hierarchy maintains the logical association between them. The user then adds to, changes, or deletes areas/volumes within the product hierarchy as the layout evolves. A powerful pathway reservation feature sets aside areas/volumes for exclusive use as walkways, HVAC, piping, electrical, conveyors, material flow, or hydraulics. Users can work and visualize their layouts in either 2D or 3D. In 3D, plant layouts resemble conceptual block models common in engineering practice where reserved spaces/volumes are "blocked out" to be further detailed later on. Powerful reference links can be made to existing DXF drawings. A user can add the drawing and existing areas within to the Product Hierarchy and treat them as limits to or definitions of new areas in which to do additional layout work. This capability is particularly useful to users doing retrofit plant layout or changeovers of the general arrangement when new manufacturing needs arise in an existing plant. Visualization options allow 2D or volumetric 3D viewing and working modes. Report capability in Plant Layout is very powerful and can detail, summarize, or sort areas/volumes at any level of detail and include totals for distances, area, perimeter and others spatial properties. The benefit of Plant Layout is the speed with which new designs can be defined and compared with others as part of "what if" scenarios. Often, the greatest payoffs in optimization and cost savings are realized in the very early stages of layout because it is here that the direction for the entire project is set. Designers involved in conceptual and preliminary layout will find Plant Layout easy to use. The complete layout of the facility can be created almost entirely with the mouse, and the product has an interface that helps users make the transition from traditional 2D layout to 3D. Its ease-of-use and intuitive interface are particularly helpful to users who are already familiar with traditional 2D drawing programs and are making the transition to 3D design. New Products CATIA Knowledge Expert 2 (KWE, 5691-KWE): Knowledge Expert 2 enables a customer to build up and share corporate knowledge in rules-driven databases. Captured rules can be applied across the enterprise to ensure compliance with established design standards. Knowledge Expert 2 is the tool that turns implicit practices into the explicit knowledge that is essential to transforming corporate know-how into rules-based standards. The product delivers a unique way to specify the generic rules and checks that must be employed throughout the corporation to ensure compliance with best practices. Reports generated by Knowledge Expert 2 help to identify violations of standards and to implement the necessary corrections. Key KWE functions include:
CATIA Generative Knowledge 2 (KWG, 5691-KWG): Generative Knowledge 2 allows a customer to automatically generate intelligent designs from scripts. This approach enforces best design practices while improving design productivity. The Reader can be downloaded, at no charge, from: Prerequisites for the Licensing Environment
Macro Replay Capabilities: CATIA Version 5 has built-in macro record and replay capabilities. For UNIX, the interpreter is BasicScript from Summit Software; it is included in CATIA Version 5 as a DLL. For Windows, the interpreter is Visual Basic Script (VB Script); it is delivered with the Windows NT, 95, and 98 operating systems. The minimum level is 3.1. VB Script libraries at level 3.1.0.2124 are delivered with Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1. Macros recorded in either the UNIX or NT environments can be replayed in either environment. However, because of differences between BasicScript and VB Script, macros written "by hand" will run only if the developer uses features supported by both interpreters. Planning InformationInstallability: The CATIA Version 5 products are delivered on CD-ROM, including documentation. Version 5 is designed so that customers can install the system, customize it, and get started with few manual interventions and minimum skills within one hour. Preventive service is delivered through the next release of CATIA Version 5. The new release includes corrections to problems, depending on the time of their submission and their severity. Corrective Service for CATIA Version 5 is delivered through "Service Packs" on a regular basis. A Service Pack includes corrections for blocking problems in production open on this release and all corrections available for all components at the time it is built. Each Service Pack supersedes the previous one and may be installed on top of the released level or on top of a previous Service Pack. Service Packs are available at the same time for all platforms currently supported. No individual correction will be delivered between two Service Packs. No update on online documentation will be provided through Service Packs. Service Packs are available on CD-ROM via the IBM Support Centers for the duration of the service of each release. Once a release has been discontinued from service, only the last Service Pack will remain available for ordering through IBM Support Centers. Customers may report problems for a given release of CATIA Version 5 for a limited time only. This reporting period ends four months after the general availability of the second subsequent release of CATIA Version 5. Customers may request a correction via a Service Pack for blocking problems. These requests for a given release of Version 5 may be made up to four months after the next release of Version 5 becomes generally available. Maintenance support will be available until discontinued by IBM upon six months' written notice. CATIA Version 5 is available on CD-ROM only. System Program Order5628-ACN System Program Order: CATIA Version 5 programs for all platforms (UNIX and Microsoft Windows) will be shipped under the 5628-ACN System Program Order (SPO). The SPO is required for all program shipments and future updates. Initial orders placed for a program type 5691 without a corresponding order or MES for the 5628-ACN SPO will either fail order validation, or will not generate a media shipment. The SPO is designated to the processor on which the program type 5691 is licensed. Each customer number must have its own SPO. Initial Orders: When ordering the first 5691-xxx configuration for CATIA Version 5, an order must also be placed for the 5628-ACN SPO. Both the 5691-xxx program order and the SPO must be for the same CPU system type/system number, and have the same scheduled shipment date. Subsequent Licenses: The SPO must have a feature number for every CATIA Version 5 configuration that is installed or on-order. Therefore, when a configuration that was not previously installed is ordered, the SPO must be updated. To Update an On-order System: When a license for a new 5691 program is ordered for an on-order system, the 5628-ACN SPO must be updated to reflect the feature number of the licensed program desired. Also, for asset registration and billing purposes an order for the individual licensed program type 5691 is required. To Update an Installed System: When a license for a new 5691 program is ordered for an installed system, the 5628-ACN SPO must be updated to reflect the feature number of the licensed program desired. 5628-ACN Feature Numbers: The following program feature numbers are used with the 5628-ACN System Program Order to show which configurations and products are installed. This information is used for shipment of media. The maximum quantity of each of the features that may be specified is one for each of the 5691 programs. A separate publication order or subscription is not needed. Terms and ConditionsLicensing: IBM Customer Agreement Designated Machine: Not Required Installation License or Location License Applies: No Usage Restriction AppliesThe Licensing Mechanism: CATIA Version 5 Licensing on Workstations: In workstation environments, CATIA controls the number of concurrent users of a CATIA configuration or product, according to the number of licenses acquired for the configuration or product. CATIA Version 5 delivers identical licensing mechanisms on UNIX and Windows NT environments, based on IBM License Use Management (LUM). The following licensing principles apply:
CATIA Version 5 can be used in two licensing modes, either nodelock or with concurrent usage of licenses on a network. Nodelock usage: The use of local display of the hardware configuration is mandatory for CATIA Version 5 usage in nodelock mode. There is no limit to the number of CATIA Version 5 processes launched for a given license (configuration or product). For instance, a user can launch the following simultaneous processes:
In nodelock mode of operation, only one CATIA license per configuration and product can be registered by machine, and only one CATIA user can run at a time. If you want multiple licenses per configuration or product, or multiple users, refer to the Concurrent Usage section. Concurrent usage: A user on one machine on one display uses one license per configuration or product used, regardless of the number of processes. If the display changes, then an additional license is taken for the corresponding process. CATIA add-on and shareable products require a license for a configuration which includes at least the prerequisite products. Licenses for CATIA configurations are acquired and released for the total configuration. The functions within a configuration cannot be shared. Educational Allowance: Education Allowance does not apply. CATIA Version 5 products are available under the Higher Education Academic Training (HEAT) Program. Additional licenses or features, as appropriate, must be obtained to exceed usage limits. Volume Discount: Contact your IBM representative. Version-to-Version Upgrade Credits Apply: No Licensed Program Materials Availability
Program Services: Program services will be available until discontinued by IBM upon six months' written notice. Program services offer a method of reporting code-related problems for CATIA Version 5 Release 3 licensed software products. Problems may be reported via e-mail, facsimile, or US mail and will be responded to via the same medium used to submit the problem. IBM will respond to customer inquiries within two business days of e-mail or facsimile receipt and seven days of mail receipt advising of the problem disposition. If the problem reported is not known to be a code-related problem, the customer will be informed that IBM will continue to work on it provided the customer has an Enhanced Support Offering contract.
