Description
ICS allows check processing application programs running on MVS/ESA and
OS/390 to communicate with the IBM 3890, IBM 3890/XP series, and IBM 3890
compatible document processors. In addition, ICS provides a way to test
Stacker Control Instruction (SCI) programs without using actual Document
Processor hardware.
ICS replaces the existing IBM 3890/XP MVS Support product and is upward
compatible.
Major ICS components include:
Year 2000
This product does not have date dependencies and is Year 2000 ready.
Product Positioning
ICS provides a high level interface (DPAPI) for IBM 3890, IBM 3890/XP
series, and IBM 3890 compatible document processors. ICS is used by
IBM's Check Processing Control System (CPCS) product and third-party

Technical Information
Specified Operating Environment
Hardware Requirements:
ICS executes on any processor that supports MVS/ESA and/or
OS/390® as well as the IBM 3890, IBM 3890/XP series, and IBM
compatible document processors. A 3890/XP (PCI) Document Processor is
required for TCP/IP connection.

as 4-mm DAT.
Security, Auditability, and Control
The announced program uses the security and auditability features of
OS/390.
In addition, Item Capture Support offers auditability via reporting of
the SMF records, which captures the average monthly transactions
processed annually. The customer is responsible for evaluation,
selection, and implementation of security features, administrative
procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and
communication facilities.
Customer Financing
IBM Global Financing offers attractive financing to credit-qualified
commercial and government customers and Business Partners in more than 40

Ordering Information
New Licensees
Orders for new licenses will be accepted now.
Shipment will begin on the planned availability date.
New users of IBM Item Capture Support should specify:
Type Model
5655 B23
Basic License
To order a basic license, specify the program number and feature number
9001 for asset registration.
Charges for ICS are usage based upon the number of transactions
processed. When ordering, specify the feature numbers that correspond to
the usage tiers.
Usage tiers are cumulative. For example, if ordering tier 3, order
incrementally by specifying the features for tier 1, tier 2, and
tier 3 as many times as appropriate.
Transactions for ICS are counted in increments of 10 million. Each tier
allows for one or more increments of 10 million. Each tier specifies the
range of millions of transactions supported by that tier. Each 10
million increment within a tier is represented by one iteration of the
feature number assigned to that tier. When ordering, specify the correct
number of iterations for a given feature number for the appropriate 10
million count. (Refer to examples for ordering.)
Number of Transactions # of MLC
Tier Processed (in Millions (M)) 10M's Feature
1 0 - 10 million 1 4100
(up to 10M)
2 10 - 30 million 2 4105
(up to 20, 30M)
3 30 - 70 million 4 4110
(up to 40, 50, 60, 70M)
4 70 - 140 million 7 4115
(up to 80, 90, 100, ... 140M)
5 140 - 230 million 9 4120
(up to 150, 160, ... 230M)
6 230+ million Unlimited 4125
(each additional 10M)
The column above labeled "# of 10M's" represents the number of groups of
10M transactions in that tier. This number also represents the number of
times the MLC feature number for that tier can be ordered based on the
cumulative (10M) transaction count. The chart below also illustrates the
tier representation:
Cumulative

Transactions Number of 10M's Transactions
Tier 1 0 - 10 10M 10M
Tier 2 10 - 30 10M 10M 30M

Ordering Examples:
Customers having a total accumulated transaction count of 40 million
transactions, order feature number 4100, feature number 4105 (quantity of
2), and feature number 4110 to arrive at 40 million. Customers having a
total accumulated transaction count of 140 million transactions, order
feature number 4100, feature number 4105 (quantity of 2), feature number
4110 (quantity of 4), and feature number 4115 (quantity of 7) to arrive
at 140 million.

Terms and Conditions
General
-
Item Capture Support utilizes Licensed Use Management. ICS usage is
managed by the customer with annual requests for reports by IBM for usage
compliance.
-
Item Capture Support is measured on an individual CPU basis. A usage
report is produced for each individual CPU. (In the case of a Parallel
Sysplex® environment, usage reporting is done on a per-Parallel Sysplex
level.)
-
New licensees of ICS will be asked to provide an estimated average
monthly item count. The procedure for establishing monthly charges for
the initial and subsequent billing periods is described below.
-
If usage measurement reports are not completed within the specified
period, monthly charges will be reset to the highest usage charge.
Required Operating System Environments
ICS must execute under one of the following IBM Operating Systems:
-
MVS/ESA SP Version 5 Release 2 or higher
-
OS/390 Version 1 or higher
Unit of Measurement
ICS usage will be measured in number of transactions processed per month.
Measurement Recording
Collecting and recording of transactions for the purpose of determining
usage license charges will require the activation of the product
measurement and reporting functions in the OS/390 or MVS/ESA operating
system. Following ICS installation and/or activation of the measurement
function, transactions must be collected and recorded for a period of 12
months. ICS transaction counts are determined as follows:
-
The measurement function registers all transactions introduced into the
system.
-
An average of monthly volume will be used to determine the usage tier for
the next 12 months.
Billing Period
Usage license charges are subject to a 12-month billing period.
Establishing Monthly Charges
-
Initial Billing Period
New licensees will be asked to provide their estimated monthly
transaction count. Usage tiers will be assigned based on this estimate.
This usage tier will remain in effect for the initial period.
-
Second and Subsequent Billing Periods
Charges for the second and subsequent billing periods will be based upon
the last 12 months average of monthly usage for the most recent reporting
period. Recorded monthly usage measurements from the prior billing
period must be supplied to IBM Financial Solutions, Charlotte,
North Carolina, within the first 10 business days of the final month
of the prior billing period so that charges for the subsequent billing
period can be established. If usage measurement reports are not
completed within the specified period, monthly charges will be reset to
the highest usage charge.
The billing start date for monthly usage charges will be the first day of
the calendar month in which the transaction counting and recording
begins.
