Description

Windows Support

With the introduction of S/390 Open Systems Adapter Support Facility for OS/390 Version 2 Release 1, (OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1), a Graphical User Interface (GUI) supporting Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT is now available, as well as the current OS/2 GUI, making it easier to identify a non-dedicated workstation to run the client application.

OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1

OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1 is an application for managing the OSA-2 features and the OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet features.

The OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1 on a S/390 Server supports a GUI on a Windows 95, Windows NT, or OS/2 workstation. A secondary interface through Time Sharing Options Extensions (TSO/E; OS/390) can be used to control the OSA-2 features or OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet features defined to the S/390 Server image on which the TSO/E is running.

OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1 is not required to configure an OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet feature, but is highly recommended to gather operational information, and to assist in problem determination.

S/390 Open Systems Adapter Support Facility for OS/390 Version 2 Release 1 is a separately orderable program product (5655-B57). It is available for OS/390 Version 1 Release 3 and above environments.

The S/390 Open Systems Adapter Support Facility for OS/390 Version 2 Release 1 does not include all of the function delivered with Version 1 Release 2.

The following support will not be provided in OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1:

  • S/390 Open Systems Adapter (OSA-1)
  • OS/390 LAN Resource Extensions and Services (LANRES)

Support is being incorporated for the S/390 Open Systems Adapter 2 and the OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet features into V2R1. If support for the S/390 Open Systems Adapter (OSA-1) features is desired, S/390 Open Systems Adapter Support Facility for OS/390 Version 1 Release 2 (5655-104) is required.

Year 2000

This product is Year 2000 ready. When used in accordance with its associated documentation, it is capable of correctly processing, providing, and/or receiving date data within and between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, provided that all products (for example, hardware, software, and firmware) used with the product properly exchange accurate date data with it.

Product Positioning

OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1 is distributed as a licensed program. It is offered at a nominal charge in support of the S/390 Open Systems Adapter 2 and OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet features.

OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1 includes the S/390 Open Systems Adapter 2 support that was in OSA/SF V1R2 and adds support for the OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet features. OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1 does not include support for the S/390 Open Systems Adapter (OSA-1) features.

Support for the OSA-1 features has been discontinued and is not available in OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1. If support for the OSA-1 features is desired, OSA/SF Version 1 Release 2 is required.
