Planned Availability DateDescriptionWindows SupportWith the introduction of S/390 Open Systems Adapter Support Facility for OS/390 Version 2 Release 1, (OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1), a Graphical User Interface (GUI) supporting Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT is now available, as well as the current OS/2 GUI, making it easier to identify a non-dedicated workstation to run the client application. OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1 is an application for managing the OSA-2 features and the OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet features. The OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1 on a S/390 Server supports a GUI on a Windows 95, Windows NT, or OS/2 workstation. A secondary interface through Time Sharing Options Extensions (TSO/E; OS/390) can be used to control the OSA-2 features or OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet features defined to the S/390 Server image on which the TSO/E is running. OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1 is not required to configure an OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet feature, but is highly recommended to gather operational information, and to assist in problem determination. S/390 Open Systems Adapter Support Facility for OS/390 Version 2 Release 1 is a separately orderable program product (5655-B57). It is available for OS/390 Version 1 Release 3 and above environments. The S/390 Open Systems Adapter Support Facility for OS/390 Version 2 Release 1 does not include all of the function delivered with Version 1 Release 2. The following support will not be provided in OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1:
Support is being incorporated for the S/390 Open Systems Adapter 2 and the OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet features into V2R1. If support for the S/390 Open Systems Adapter (OSA-1) features is desired, S/390 Open Systems Adapter Support Facility for OS/390 Version 1 Release 2 (5655-104) is required. Year 2000This product is Year 2000 ready. When used in accordance with its associated documentation, it is capable of correctly processing, providing, and/or receiving date data within and between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, provided that all products (for example, hardware, software, and firmware) used with the product properly exchange accurate date data with it. Product PositioningOSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1 is distributed as a licensed program. It is offered at a nominal charge in support of the S/390 Open Systems Adapter 2 and OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet features. OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1 includes the S/390 Open Systems Adapter 2 support that was in OSA/SF V1R2 and adds support for the OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet features. OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1 does not include support for the S/390 Open Systems Adapter (OSA-1) features. Support for the OSA-1 features has been discontinued and is not available in OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1. If support for the OSA-1 features is desired, OSA/SF Version 1 Release 2 is required. Compatibility: OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1 includes the S/390 Open Systems Adapter 2 support that was in OSA/SF V1R2 and adds support for the OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet features. Packaging: OSA/SF for OS/390 V2R1 will be shipped on either a 3480 tape cartridge or a 9-track (6250 bpi) tape, at the customer's option. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.
