Overview

DataInterchange MVS (TM) V3.1 and DataInterchange MVC/CICS (R) V3.1 are translation components of IBM EDI Services. These components run on S/390 (R) systems and provide MVS batch processing and MVS/CICS real-time processing. This software converts application data formats into (or from) industry-specific or EDI standards or other fixed application data formats. DataInterchange electronically translates data, such as invoices, purchase orders and billing forms for exchange with trading partners through an electronic mailbox on the IBM Global Network (TM).

IBM EDI Services, a managed electronic transaction service from IBM Global Services, is one of the world's EDI market-share leaders in delivering security-enhanced electronic documents, including purchase orders, invoices, ship notices, and bills of lading.

Enhancements Included in DataInterchange V3.1

DESCRIPTION

DataInterchange MVS and DataInterchange MVS/CICS provide a powerful data translation and transaction management solution that can grow with your Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) requirements. This new version includes the DataInterchange Client with all upgrades and new purchases of the MVS and MVS/CICS host products. The client runs on a 32-bit architecture, includes new dropdown features and has improved screen consistency. There is continued support for the traditional 3270 interface, thus, providing two powerful interfaces.

In DataInterchange V2.1, SAP status records were collected in a DB2 (R) table. This data then was extracted via a PERFORM command to create a flat file of status information that could be used as input by a SAP application. In DataInterchange V3.1, the SAP status records are written to a DB2 table, but the flat file is created (at the user's option) during the translation step, removing the need for a separate processing step to extract SAP data. When the SAP information is extracted, the data is marked accordingly as "extracted." Customers can query the database with an "extracted," "unextracted" or "all" specification to display the status of SAP data.

DataInterchange inbound and outbound files can be sent to MQSeries message queues which supports many diverse platforms including HP, SUN, Unisys, OS/2 (R) and others.

New profiling features expand control number assignment options and offer ways to reduce the number of trading partner profiles. EDI control numbers can be assigned sequentially based on sender and receiver pair, and optionally by EDI transaction set. Also, trading partner profile and usage setup can be simplified via new minimal trading partner profile feature. No longer is it necessary to define an individual trading partner profile for each trading partner.

In addition, V3.1 checks for standards compliance on all transactions, generates informative error messages, supports fixed to fixed mapping and has improved large file throughput by allocating memory independently from the file size.

IBM Global Services, Network Services can provide you with a total EDI solution. This total EDI solution can include DataInterchange for EDI message translation, Information Exchange for EDI mailboxing, Expedite/Base for communication with your trading partners and connection to the IBM Global Network. DataInterchange facilities help you to create application data mappings to be used as a stand-alone EDI system or integrated with other applications through its API's, on either OS/390 (R) MVS systems for batch processing or MVS/CICS for real-time processing. The application data mappings convert from and into proprietary, EDI standard and non-standard formats, including but not limited to, ANSI X12, UN/EDIFACT, and UCS.

DataInterchange supports subsets of the published X12 and EDIFACT standards, as interpreted by the industries such as retail, transportation, electronics, automotive, petroleum, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing and more.

Year 2000

DataInterchange MVS V3.1 and DataInterchange MVS/CICS V3.1 are Year 2000 ready. When used in accordance with their associated documentation, DataInterchange MVS V3.1 and DataInterchange MVS/CICS V3.1 are capable of correctly processing, providing, and/or receiving date data within and between the 20th and 21st centuries, provided all other products (for example, software, hardware, and firmware) used with each product properly exchange accurate date data with it. IBM is not representing or stating that IBM EDI Services is Year 2000 ready at this time.

DataInterchange Interoperates with SAP R/3 System

The prior release of DataInterchange (V2.1) has been certified by SAP AG/SAP America to interoperate with the R/3 System via a standard interface. Additional function is included in this release (V3.1) to enhance the interface to SAP by improving status processing.

IBM intends to obtain SAP certification for DataInterchange 3.1. Details on the certification test connectivity and deliverables used during the test will be made available from the Web site:

For ordering information, call 800-IBM-CALL (426-2255).

Single Version Charging: Single Version Charging applies to upgrade from DataInterchange V1.5 and V2.1 to DataInterchange V3.1. Specify the feature number for a basic license or the feature number for a DSLO license.

To elect single version charging, the customer is responsible to notify and identify to IBM the prior program and replacement program and the designated machine the programs are operating on. The customer is responsible for cancelling the replaced program so a charge will not be incurred.

Single Version Charging (SVC) has been introduced to help customers in planning and implementing migrations to new levels of System/370 (TM) and System/390 programs. Under SVC a customer pays for only the more current version of a selected program when it and the program it replaces are running on the same designated machine while the customer is in the process of migrating to the more current version. The terms of SVC limit the duration of SVC to not exceed 12 months from the date of the SVC fee waiver.

For customers migrating from a replaced program MLC to the replacement program MLC, monthly charges for the replaced program will be waived until the customer discontinues the replaced program, not to exceed 12 months. MLC charges for the replacement program will begin immediately, following the two month testing period.

For customers migrating from a replaced program ALC to the replacement program MLC, ALC charges will be waived for the replaced program until the customer discontinues the replaced program, not to exceed 12 months. MLC charges for the replacement program will begin immediately, following the two month testing and evaluation period with the exception of those who qualify for an upgrade credit. If customers qualify for version to version upgrade credit of the PLC for the replaced program, the months waived will begin immediately following the two month testing and evaluation period and MLC charges for the replacement program will begin immediately following the months waived.

Note: It is the customer's responsibility to discontinue the replaced program. Otherwise, charges will begin for the replaced program and the customer will incur charges for both the replaced and replacement programs.

For additional information refer to Marketing Announcement 394-198 dated September 13, 1994.

Version-to-Version Upgrade Credit: To upgrade from a prior program acquired for a PLC charge to a replacement program using a version-to-version upgrade credit, the customer must notify and identify to IBM the applicable prior program and replacement program participating in the upgrade credit.

Program upgrade credits apply to the acquisition of replacement programs when the predecessor program was acquired for PLC. Credit amounts are variable and are based on the PLC to MLC ratio and the length of time that the license for the predecessor program has been installed under PLC. DI 3.1 will use the "55" ratio in calculating credits.

Refer to the August 1, 1989, Marketing Announcement 389-116 or Canadian Announcement A89-625.

PLC/ALC customers will need to migrate to MLC charges in order to comply with IBM's OS/390 price structure. MLC charges are higher than previous versions, therefore current MLC customers, will incur a higher MLC charge when they migrate to DataInterchange V3.1.

The MLC charges reflect several changes including SAP certification, packaging the DataInterchange Client and other enhancements.

Current PLC/ALC customers migrating to MLC may qualify for a version to version upgrade credit. For Version-to-Version Upgrades, a 55 ratio will be used.
