PSLC Level C Price for S/390 Software Reduces the Cost of Growing Workloads

Overview
IBM's S/390 (R) software portfolio provides the classic strengths of reliability, availability, security and scalability at attractive prices. With the industry moving to new applications in the areas of e-business, business intelligence and enterprise resource planning (ERP), and the consolidation of these workloads from other platforms, S/390 software is focused on delivering the functions and underlying customer values to support these trends.
As customers grow their S/390 environments beyond 175 Service Units in Millions (MSUs), incremental price performance begins to plateau. To improve price performance, IBM is introducing a new price level for large Parallel Sysplex (R) and standalone machines exceeding 175 MSUs.
Parallel Sysplex License Charge (PSLC) Level C is being introduced on the current version of selected S/390 software products for customers running aggregated Parallel Sysplexes or standalone machines greater than 175 MSUs. The new PSLC charges for incremental MSUs above 175 MSUs for these products will be reduced by 25% from the current PSLC charge at that level, significantly reducing the incremental cost of growing workloads on large aggregated Parallel Sysplexes or large standalone machines.
The new PSLC charges for these selected S/390 software products will be effective January 1, 1999.

The new PSLC Level C charges for selected S/390 products allow customers to:
- Leverage the new functions and value of IBM's latest products to
drive new workload
- Achieve improved incremental IBM software price performance as
system capacity grows
- Benefit from the availability, scalability and workload balancing
advantages of migrating to an aggregated Parallel Sysplex
environment
- Grow both new and traditional workloads on S/390 at more competitive prices
A single physical machine may also qualify for these new PSLC prices on incremental MSUs above 175 provided it meets the criteria for non-aggregated PSLC terms.
These terms apply to the S/390 software programs shown in the Charges section as well as OS/390 (R) Version 2 (5647-A01). The introduction of PSLC Level C for OS/390 Version 2, announced in May, restricted Level C pricing to aggregated Parallel Sysplexes over 175 MSUs. Effective January 1, 1999, a standalone machine greater than 175 MSUs may also qualify for Level C charges for OS/390 Version 2 provided it meets the criteria for non-aggregated PSLC terms.

Parallel Sysplex (R) License Charge (PSLC) Basic License
To order a basic license, specify the appropriate program number and feature number, if required, for asset registration. Specify the PSLC Base feature. If applicable, specify the PSLC Level A and PSLC Level B features and quantity. The new Level C feature numbers and charges are listed below, and are effective January 1, 1999.
If there is more than one copy in a Parallel Sysplex, the charge for all copies is associated to one license by specifying the applicable PSLC feature numbers, and quantity represented by the sum of the Service Unit in Millions (MSUs) in your Parallel Sysplex. For all other program copies specify the PSLC No-Charge (NC) Identifier feature on the licenses. The feature numbers and charges below are only for the new feature numbers.
