Overview
Network Terminal Option (NTO) incorporates the new High Level Assembler (5696-234) changes made to the ACF/SSP program. HLAS is recognized as IBM's most established assembler. As networks continue to grow in size, so does the need to provide support for large network generation assembles. Migrating to IBM's High Level Assembler provides increased generation reliability for these growing network generations. In addition, IBM's HLAS provides service support into the Year 2000.
NTO Release 11 runs concurrently with ACF/NCP V7R7 (5648-063) and the following releases of ACF/SSP:
Program
Program/Version/Release Number
ACF/SSP V4R7 for OS/390 (R) (MVS (TM)) 5655-041
ACF/SSP V4R7 for VM 5654-009
ACF/SSP V4R7 for VSE 5686-064
For details on the high-level assembler changes, refer to Software Announcement 298-334 dated September 22, 1998.
Intended Customers
Customers who migrate to the newest levels of ACF/NCP V7R7 and SSP V4R7 and need NTO. Upgrade to the newest release of NTO V1R11 is required for compatibility.

New NCP Generation Assembler Support
Starting with ACF/NCP V7R7, important changes have been made to the NCP generation assembler support.
Beginning with ACF/SSP V4R7, the Network Definition Facility (NDF) requires the corequisite support of IBM High Level Assembler (HLAS) (5696-234). You must use HLAS to generate NCP V7R7 load modules.
Prior to ACF/SSP V4R7, two different assemblers (IFZ assembler for VSE and IHR90 assembler for MVS and VM) were shipped with ACF/SSP. IFZ and IHR90 will continue to be shipped with ACF/SSP V4R7 to support load module generation on NCP releases prior to V7R7.
Support for the older assemblers (IFZ and IHR90) has been discontinued on this release and future releases. The High Level Assembler will offer both increased reliability for large network generations and service support into the Year 2000.
Refer to the ACF/SSP V4R7 Software Announcement 298-334 dated September 22, 1998, for details.
Year 2000
This product is Year 2000 ready. When used in accordance with its associated documentation, it is capable of correctly processing, providing, and/or receiving date data within and between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, provided all other products (for example, software, hardware, and firmware) used with the product properly exchange accurate date data with it.
HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE SUPPORT SERVICES
SmoothStart (TM)/Installation Services
SmoothStart or Installation Services will not be provided for NTO.
