The AFP Font Collection products provide a comprehensive set of fonts and utilities to give you consistent printed output on AFP printers at 240 or 300 dpi, or on printers that use outline fonts. The fonts can be installed in any IBM S/390 operating system environment. They support printing in approximately forty-six languages.
The associated Font Collection product, AFP Font Collection for AIX, OS/400 and OS/2 (program number 5648-B45) also includes compatible outline fonts in the standard Adobe Type 1 font architecture. These screen fonts allow you to view your AFP documents in Windows 95, Windows NT (R) or OS/2 systems, or on a Web server via the Netscape or Internet Explorer web browsers with WYSIWYG fidelity. Fonts for printing in double-byte languages such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese are provided with the AFP Font Collection for AIX, OS/400 and OS/2. These fonts are supplied in CID-keyed outline format, and must be converted to AFP fonts using the Type Transformer utility before they can be used for printing.
The Font Collection supports printing for all non-DBCS languages in the following three typefaces:
- Courier
- Helvetica
- Times New Roman
- Boldface
- Gothic Text
- Letter Gothic
- Prestige
What's New in Version 2 of AFP Font Collection
AFP Font Collection Version 2 includes new international language capabilities to support print requirements for global markets. Specific new functions include:
- Support for the new euro currency symbol and code pages in 19
typefaces
The European Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) will begin on January 1, 1999, with the introduction of a single currency for eleven participating countries -- the euro. Businesses that conduct operations in or with these countries will require changes to applications that need to process, print or display the new euro sign. AFP Font Collection Version 2 can help you transition to the new currency by providing EuroReady fonts for printing and viewing.
- Addition of character sets and code pages for printing in Thai and
Lao.
To remain competitive in today's increasingly global markets, it is no longer enough to print output in a single national language. Many businesses must also be able to distribute and print output all over the world -- particularly if they are looking for growth opportunities in the expanding Far East markets. To support these global business requirements, AFP Font Collection now contains font character sets and code pages for printing in Thai and Lao, as well as in Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
- Font character sets and code pages to support the New Sheqel Sign
in Hebrew
A new currency symbol, the New Sheqel Sign, has been introduced into the Hebrew alphabet. Similar to the changes underway in Europe to print the euro sign in addition to or instead of national currency symbols, applications that previously printed the old Sheqel sign will require changes to replace it with the new symbol.
- Miscellaneous international language enhancements
Year 2000
This product does not have date dependencies and is, therefore, Year 2000 ready.
The IBM AFP Font Collection products provide a comprehensive set of fonts that give you consistent printed output on AFP printers at any resolution, as well as when viewing AFP documents in Windows 95, Windows NT, OS/2, or from the Netscape or Internet Explorer Web browsers. AFP fonts included in the Font Collection can be installed in any S/390 operating system, and can be used for printing on any AFP/IPDS (TM) printer. The optional programs in the AFP Font Collection for AIX, OS/400 and OS/2 (5648-B45) allow you to acquire fonts in any typeface from font vendors and turn them into AFP fonts for printing. The Font Collection thus provides a complete solution for all your AFP font needs.
